Bar Rescue is a pretty good show i watch it weekly, usually 2-3 shows in a row.

This episode was kinda weak compared to others, but was interesting to see what little they showed on the karaoke part. A self-updating karaoke service that bars can put in and pay a server or person minimum wage + tips is a pretty scary thought though.

It stated that 3 weeks after the remodel, Sal, the owner, started putting alot of the old stuff (antiques, projectors, memorabilia, etc) back into the restaurant, so it probably looks like it did before: a hoarder restaurant/bar.

.

Yeah I was surprised too. I'm thinking he handled it with Kid Gloves compared to other shows. Thought Maybe it might be because the old guys might drop dead under all the stress and pressure. I'll be moving out there in a few weeks. Can't wait to see it. And as I mentioned Before I'll be taking my own disks. But would like to hear this new system.

Interesting:

The guy they brought in to train a new host (that only did the mic work- the technical side was run by a sound man in a booth) seemed like he knew something, at least in the very short time he was on.

He was identified as Fred something, the owner of You Be The Star Karaoke, which they touted as the largest karaoke company in the country.

I never heard of it, which doesn't really mean anything. However, me being me, I had to do a search, and tried several different engines.

I found a company with that name out of Texas ONLY on a Myspace page that seems to have been unused for about two years, and seems to have been owned by someone named Leda.

I also found a You ARE The Star, based in Indiana but owned by Lyle and Sonya Wilson.

Luddite that I am, I'm quite still surprised that "the largest karaoke company in the country" has zero web presence...Hmmmmm..... Maybe over-advertised just a wee bit.

Absolutely, I'm thinking your right on the money here.

Been watching Bar Rescue for a long time. Preyty neat show, and Mr. Taffer does seem to know his stuff for bars that are in HIGH TRAFFIC areas.

I have never seen him do a bar rescue for a small town bar, and the things he does are for only bars that are in high traffic areas.

I would love to see him do a Bar Rescue for the bars 10 miles south of me in a town of 30 people. Or even in my town of 5,000, most of the things he does marketing wise would no help.

And isn't most of what he does common sense????
Clean bar/kitchen
Don't over pour
Good customer service

But still it is a good show, I just can't believe some of those bar owners are that stupid.

I dunno sometimes the simplest things, and the ones that are supposed to be common sense are the ones that get ignored the most. And that applies to a lot of things, not just bars.

I have been to a lot of dive bars where I absolutely refused to use the washrooms unless I was desperate. I have been in a lot of bars where the wait staff was HORRENDOUS and slow.

Dimples is a Bar rescue fail. You can't see the video monitors and you can't hear yourself sing. :( Sal is still the host and out of control. You can't bring your own disks they have no players.

They don't have a legal Karaoke Player? That is sad. How can they be a Karaoke Bar and not be able to play Karaoke discs.

All on their computer just like me. I can't ether. They use an old system that uses song codes so you have to look up each song you want and give them your name and the song code. You still get a free DVD of your first song you sing!!! I must have 6 or so buy now. :P

That's why I have an external player. Bring them to me! I'll play from a flash drive too! Most karaoke software does allow play from external media.

Lonman I thought you mentioned in another link you use compuhost? Maybe I got you confused with another poster. Compuhost you just pop in the disc and when their turn comes up you can play it. I can't to get there and check it out But, that old dirlick of an owner better watch his mouth. If he really wanted to own a strip club he should have bought one. Karaoke Clubs and customers are a different breed. If you cater to them they will be loyal.

Lon is a proponent of "MTU Hoster", not Compuhost

They have a 1:1 disk to computer stored offsite but only use the computer for the nightly shows. Their business is way down still to this day.

Are we still talking about Dimples? I got confused on the post I was posting to. With that Karaoke Juke box type thing they are using They obviously own all of the songs. When I replied I was thinking I was responding to the same question but from a different point of view as I had about 5 windows open. I'll be there in June and am looking forward to seeing it myself. I just don't understand how a Karaoke Bar can't play Karaoke disks. Especially the First Karaoke Bar in the US. I would expect that they would have always been on the cutting edge. It appears Mr. Taffer set the bar up to succeed. But just not at Karaoke. Makes me wonder what input the "Expert" actually had. You can't have the largest Karaoke business without understanding your customer base. Can you?

When I'm in Florida or Nashville or just traveling. I always bring my discs. In Florida that Englewood/Sarasota area bringing your disc is the norm. But here in Flint. It is so saturated with Wanna Be KJ's that never bought a CD or even purchased a download. One wanna Be KJ plays Karaoke off you tube. Really bad especially when the internet connection slows and music stops 3 or 4 times when your singing and got women up trying to dance along. It's so bad in Flint, Few places can remember what a real good Karaoke Experience is. A lot of Bars here need a rescue. But the problem is as always the owners. Many bars may have the decor but lack decorum.

No I use MTU Hoster, it does allow for disc play with a temporary import which deletes after played. I just prefer to use the external player because it's easier for my setup.
That must be a new feature for Compuhost. From what I knew, it never had direct cdg play, but a button that you could connect an external player via a video capture card & use that.

That was "V1".

The new "V2" is promoted as such:

And Karaoke VCDs? Why not! And finally, how about songs stored on external devices like USB Flashdrives etc,? Of course! And to top it off, we've incorporated our own advanced "buffering" technology to better tolerate those "less than perfect" discs.

Ct Kirk Karaoke WOW That system isn't even that old and it's already breaking down. Sounds like a typical Juke Box. LOL

Bazza I didn't realize it did the SCDG's too. Hmm it really has some good options. Too Bad I can't clean up my registry. Their programing is wrong somehow every time I run a registry cleaner I have to reinstall the software. Which BTW Anyone know of a registry cleaner that will work with Compuhost on the system?
