That's the funny part...I've never used any software to do my books ,AND I type Using the ol' hunt n' peck method haha .It took forever the first time I did my books. I typed all by - artist-----song title----song # ...then used the drag n' drop to reverse to ...song title.... artist....song # and as I stated before I always list the SC version first , so when I update..I have to type them in and then copy each one and place the songs where I want them , rather than just add them all , and do an alphabetical sort!..But I swear EVERYBODY that has used my books absolutly raves about how great they are , and how easy they are to use , In dark clubs and at partys with older folks I truly would NEVER use smaller than size 12 font - BOLD! But that's just me , and I'm small time...only have a total of 10 books @ 200 pages each.

HELP!! I'm new to the whole K. scene (been singing with a band for years) I bought Nu Tech's Super CD-G's Vol. 1 & 2 and hits of 2003 (about 2900 songs total) OH MY GOD! song book nightmare!! I tried copying & pasting the lists from web sites, (took me 8 hours to alphabetize just the artists & fix columns) It looks ok except some are all caps, others not.....now I want to do them alphabetically by artist. Do I have to retype every friggin song to put the artist in the first column!!???

Is there ANYWHERE I can get copies of these from someone or where, or do you veterans have any suggestions to make it a little less painfull? (i'm a 2 finger typist) I will gladly pay someone for the copies if they exist. I own 3 businesses & can't even bribe my employees to do it for me.
Any suggestions are welcomed, my first show is Wed. Oct. 9..

I use Microsoft Excel for my song books, if you used a word processing program you should be able to cut and paste into excel. I use a 4 column format, Title, Artist, Disk, and Track. Once you get everything in there you can do a data sort by any column.

don't know if the website will be edited or not but kjpro (.com) and musicbookdeluxe (.com) both have songbook software if you don't want to type it all out. OR do the cut/paste routine...

I use excel for my books as well. I went with the narrow arial font which is readable but narrow to allow for more information on the page (Across).

I use this format:

Artist | Song | Artist | Disc | Track

I then hide one of the Artist columns depending on my printing (by artist or by song). It prevents any problems in the cut/paste method to shift columns around. When I add tracks I add them at the bottom and cut/paste just the tracks I add. Works well so far, but only because I don't like all caps, like to differentiate between different songs using (Radio Version), etc. I'll add a list of the abbreviations and 'rules' the next time I print but since I'm hoovering around 2500 tracks I'm still not anywhere near the size you guys are. If I ever get to where I have 15,000 tracks or more I'll likely move to access.

i take pride in my selection books because i feel they are a point of advertising me

they are in plastic wallets sealed with tape on the open edge to prevent the pages from getting wet or pulled out, all discs and tracks are number rather than using the cd codes (easier for drunks) and the best bit:-

one way the books are alpha by artist, turn the book over and its alpha by song title so thr book grows in to the middle. if that makes sence.

And as i got about 8000 songs less dupes leaves about 6500 plus i hold the master for different versions

so no complaints......none

I have found that it is somewhat comforting to some people to know that the KJ has more than 1 version of their favorite song. As far as how many songs I have, well I have 633 cd's and I'm sure there are duplicates in them as you cannot avoid that fact once you hit a certain point. I think that the amount of songs is sometimes over-rated anyway. As long as the KJ has excelent sound, a good sound mix, good equipment and has a good personality, it would be a good show wether the host had 2000 or 10,000 songs in his book.

We keep all our song in the book so that the signers can choose the version they want. Now we don't have a large selection as of now but we are when I say we have 1600+ that is non duplicated. Duplications take us over 2000 but I don't avertise that way.

I have close to 70,000 songs ...however without dupes it puts that at aroun 30,000 different songs.
I use a computer based hosting system with a search engine so my songbooks only list title and artist, so no need for disc #s , by default I will use sc, but in my books i let my singers know that if they prefer another brand to let me know so i can let em sing whatever brand of disc they want.
I purchased a binding machine, so i make my own books, Spiral notebook type. They look much more professional than binders with plastic pages. and not to expensive to replace since I make my own.

70,000 songs?? can you prove the original discs are yours? that's just outrageous, and overkill to be perfectly honest.

Why does it matter how many discs he has and why assume they are not legit. It's his business and if he's happy with it and they are legal why criticize it. Had to be one of the more ridiculous posts you made Matt. Sorry.

I could care less how ridiculous it looks... his claim is VERY skeptical.

Most of the biggies I've seen in this business have 20K, 25K and one has 32K...

are there even 70,000 tracks available for karaoke, and why would somebody have 40,000 duplicate tracks and why would one want to carry that many cd's with them. It does not matter what you store the CD's in, when you get approx 4660 CD's (15 tracks a cd) that gets heavy.

And if he does, he does, if he doesn't who cares. As for transporting that amount of discs, no problem if they are in cases (crates), you use a dolly, and make several trips. Geez some of you guys get so upset at ridiculous things.
