Seismic experts predict an offshore Oregon/Washington quake soon, creating a Tsunami like response.

(Maybe a big one)

If you want to keep your karaoke gear dry, wrap it securely in plastic.

If you live on the outer islands, take a vacation.

This may be related to Mt St Helens. (If they say it is, they are liable)

Ask yourself this: Are pets acting odd? Have small birds vanshed from your area? Have you noticed any small tremors?

Nah, they can't predict with any accuracy when & if an earthquake will happen. They are starting to get better at it but it's still real miss & occasional hit (guess). I'm not too worried about any "prediction". They've been sayin our "big one" has been overdue for the last 20 years & the one we just had a couple years ago I believe was the one they were talking about although they don't.

Where did you get your info from?

Seattle Quake
During the first few minutes of Friday's show, author and lecturer Stuart Wilde shared visions he has been having of a massive quake that will rock Seattle. He believes if it happens, an earthquake originating in the Pacific Ocean near the Seattle shore will occur tomorrow (November 6, 2004) at either 7:15 AM or 7:15 PM. According to Wilde, Seattle residents should also expect a 200-ft tall tidal wave to accompany the quake.

NOTE: All of the links point to geological sites dealing with tsunami, earthquakes and the reporting of scientific data. They in no way compete with the sponsors of this site, or this site and are provided for educational use.

200 ft. tall tidal wave? Not likely. The largest ever was a local tsunami where most of a mountain and glacier fell into the Lituya Bay in 1946 from an earthquake that measured 8.3 (or 7.9 - conflicting reports) and was 524 ft. high. It was only this large because it was a unique localized condition much like throwing a car in a swimming pool (much of a mountainside and glacier fell into the bay there).
http://www.extremescience.com/BiggestWave.htm

There was an offshore 9.8 earthquake in 1964 that resulted in only a 65ft rise in tide in Kodiak, Alaska. It was worse in Valdez which had both a local tsunami, experienced the ground turning to liquid during the earthquake, and then the tsunami from the earthquake.

http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/web_tsus/19640328/runups.htm
Shows the tide levels. Keep in mind this is one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded.

http://www.seafriends.org.nz/oceano/waves.htm
Dr William Van Dorn (1974) gave the following account of the great earthquake of 28 March 1964 on southeastern Alaska, and its tsunami:
The volume of water displaced defies imagination. It involved a dislocation averaging 6 feet (1.8m) vertically over 100,000 square miles - thrice the size of Florida! About half this area was on land, and subsided; the other half, which included the entire 100-mile wide shelf bordering the Gulf of Alaska, was bulged upward - in some places as much as 50 feet (15m). The resulting mound of water poured off the shelf for two hours, and fanned out over the Pacific, creating widespread damage as far south as Crescent City, California, 1200 miles distant, where half of the business district was swept away.

The largest in the northwest US:
The Worldwide Tsunami Database (from the National Geophysical Data
Center) shows that largest tsunami wave recorded in the Northwest
is a 30m (98 feet) wave on Vancouver Island; it was generated by an
Alaska earthquake in 1946. The largest one listed for Washington,
Oregon and California is a 6.3m (21 feet) wave at Crescent City,
California; it was generated by the 1964 Alaska earthquake.

Predictions of earthquakes is woefully inaccurate.
But to see how often they happen:
http://www.aeic.alaska.edu/Seis/recente ... index.html
Shows recent quakes in Alaska and at the bottom of the page you can select other areas - including Hawaii, Northwestern US, Nevada, among others.

Hey, now- could those of you who live elsewhere PLEEEEASE not hope for those of us in or around Portland OR area to get drowned??? LMAO

I doubt my computer OR mic would work under water, so "Nothing Happened" works for me!!!!

I never watch the news here (weather men here CAN NOT predict the weather, so I don't usually bother). So I missed this little piece of info. Now I'm gonna have to go look the story up on the internet.

(I do believe they've been saying this for years tho)

Hey Matt.

How are things up there?.. Are you staying busy?

I'm off to sing tonight, East Pasadena, a great "Supper Club", fashioned after the 60s clubs in Vegas.

Friday, KaraokeSammy and I will be belting them out just up the street from the house. :D

I think winter in here. It sprinkled ten minutes Friday. :D
