Hello. I am setting up a home theater. My room size is 12'x17'. I would like to add Karaoke to it. I currently have my amp and speakers. I also have couple of dvd player which have karaoke function. However, the quality is not good at all. I would like to know what do I need to get to set up the karaoke. Do i just need a karaoke player, or do i need a mixer. Thanks. BTW, I need to use both vcd and dvd to play karaoke songs.

my personal recommendation is the RSQ505 player... solid and dependable. it'll even play some regular dvd movies, though I wouldn't do that...

you mentoined having the amp and speakers already... are they standard home speakers or designed for live mic... otherwise, you'll end up trashing your nice speakers!

Thanks. I am using my existing stereo system. If I get a pair of speakers for karaoke, would it solve the problem. Another question, do i still need a mixer? Any recommendation for a speakers?

Also, how is the RSQ505 compare to a Yamaha KP300 mixer with my existing dvd player? Thanks.

Or can I just add a Mackie DFX-6 mixer and pair of speakers and use my existing dvd player and amp? I am getting confused now.

some of the coding on the more newer movies don't work on the player. It'll play the movie, but on the opening splash screen where you choose your options, it doesn't display on a couple of the newer ones.

"The Lord Of the Rings" was that way. Once you pressed the play button, all was fine...

Bottom line, it's a karaoke machine. NOT a movie player. I was just experimenting.

Also, the RSQ I have is a few years older. My model won't play the black carbon discs, but I know newer models of that same player work just fine with them! So maybe they've updated their coding. Unsure about all that.

On the subject of the speakers, mixer and such:

The RSQ505 is a player only. If you want to integrate it into an existing home setup, it should hook up just like any standard cd player, with the video going to the TV. Lonman knows the most about speakers, but I would stick with name brands, and NOT go cheap. I personally sought out a local guy that builds speakers, but the man has a strong reputation, and he took over the same business his father put together literally decades ago! Whatever kind of speaker you get, you need to make certain that they are rated for "live mic" performance, not just recorded music.

Those woofers are made of a more flexible material. The bass isn't as tight as a regular speaker of the same calibur, but they're still strong speakers nonetheless.
