Hello... I travel a lot for my day job. I was wondering if there could be an area where those who do travel could check in here and maybe get together for an evening of Karaoke at various local clubs and stuff.
Just a thought and maybe a suggestion.. ??? Your thoughts??
BTW... I'll be in southfield MI for the next couple of weeks..
Take Care

Nice to meet you guys...we travel about once a month and I try to do karaoke every time.
I'm going to Little Rock, Arkansas around 11/15 and to Vegas during Thanksgiving, and to San Diego during Christmas. If you will be in any of those places, let me know!

Hey Slanoue.
Karaoke is big in Vegas. I sang there many times on visits...Can't go anymore have too many doggies now and won't leave em...But, there is a paper published there that tells all the places and times for different karaoke shows. They make a big deal out of it there...So hunt up that paper to find the action...
Each kj has an assistant and you had to give your slip to the assistant...It was frowned upon if you tried to communicate with the kj at all...(alittle stuffy) ....But overall, I loved singing there..Sure wish I could join you there... Good luck!

Hi! Thanks, yes I know all about Vegas karaoke. We go there 3 or 4 times a year, at least, and have been going many years. I have never experienced what you said about the "assistant", though. I wonder which place(s) that was?
My husband likes to casino-hop so I usually just sing one song at a place and then go. I like Barbary Coast , Imperial Palace, and Ellis Island the best. I have also been to Westward Ho, Stratosphere, Harrah's, and many others. There are tons in Vegas but we like to stick to the Strip because we don't have a car. There are many people at karaokeuniverse from Vegas and we have had many discussions about it (most of them are locals so they go to non-strip places). BTW I review all of the places I've done karaoke at my website....
PS how many doggies do you have? that is too bad you can't leave them, you don't know anyone who can pup-sit for you? We just have one so we put him in the vet's kennell. They love him a lot there and the feeling is mutual so it's almost like he gets to go to a spa for dogs

Well, it's been nearly 4 years now since I have gone, but I used to go several times a year too....I always rented a car .. I like to go to Laughlin as well and take the jaunt thru Christmas Tree Pass..... and I like to be able to move around freely. I often went alone, before I met John and liked the safety of valet parking...and not into walking...or taxies...
My favorite place to stay was Sam's Town. Tho, I played at bout all of them. There is so much to see and do there besides casinos that I had to have a car. At Christmas time I stayed 10-12 days. Could not be without wheels that long.. ..I love the texture of the land there...I could drive for hours just watching how the sunlight and sunsets made the rock formations, etc. look so different. Every 10th of a mile was like a new picture...I always felt so close to God when I was there...
My younger son was in the Marines part of the time during my visits so I drove over to California a few times as well to visit him...which I also enjoyed very much..Also took my 2 sons on a fun trip there once. Just me and them...Had a great time...
I never got to travel when I was a kid cuz we were so poor, so I really appreciated seeing anything and everything...and a car made me free to see all I could..
I lost my best friend to cancer. She and I loved to go there too...She went with me 3 or 4 times. The last time we got to go was our last hurrah before she died. We went to the Grand Canyon on a side trip. We also saw San Francisco together on our way to Vegas as a side trip. She made me an album of our pictures to always remember our fun times with...I treasure it..
I met John 5 years ago...Here in Orlando, not there, but he and I went out there many times too....I had the joy of showing it all to him as he had never been there before...He like me, loves the out doors and Christmas Tree Pass was a delite to us just driving thru no mans land checking out the coyotes and the big rock formations...
We have 7 scottish terriers....by the time we kenneled them we wouldn't have any moolah left ...but we knew when we took them on it would change our lives and were prepared to do whatever necessary to give them a good life...Its hard to find anyone to keep 7 doggies at an affordable price, and we hate to be away from them also, but we daydream about the possibilities from time to time. ....Maybe someday...

Thank you for sharing that story, you really are good at describing how you liked it there. My husband and his family used to travel a lot when he was a kid and his father loved gambling so they used to go to Vegas a lot (we both grew up in San Diego so it wasn't very far). So he saw most of that stuff as a kid, I guess. We usually fly there. I agree it is very pretty but I'm not really much into nature-type stuff, especially desert. He doesn't like to drive in the traffic in Vegas so that's mostly why we take cabs or just walk if we're on the Strip. I have been to Sam's Town but never made it to their karaoke.
You sound very devoted to your doggies. I know it would cost a lot to put them in a kennel, but have you considered getting a dog watcher? That might be cheaper. You know, someone to stay at your house and take care of them, like a house-sitter but for your pets. We can't do that with ours because he's not very good with people. He loves the kennel people but he gets kind of scared around most strangers and is especially territorial when he's at home. He snaps, barks, growls and might even bite when he gets scared. He's a good dog and is mostly very friendly, actually loves most people but you never know who is going to scare him or freak him out (he's a little weird in the head !). So we just keep him away from people as a general rule. The vet people seem to know how to handle him, thankfully! The vet said some dogs are just like that by nature (he was already a couple of years old when we got him so he might have been mistreaded when he was a puppy but there's no way of knowing). The vet said he had a dog like that himself!!
Do you have pics of yours? Mine is at http://suzann.com/me/me.htm at the top or click on the link there to see more.

Ha ha! Yeah it's funny because I used to love cats because that's what I mostly grew up with. But my husband's sister is very allergic so we can't have one because then she could never visit. He always wanted a dog so we finally got one about 5 or 6 years ago. I have become one of those dog people that I never thought I would. I always see dogs now and go, oh, look, a doggy....like some people are with kids. I still like cats, though...

I was a cat person too, till I got my first scottie...There are pics of some of them in my album...Take a peek... oh and I still have 1 kitty, his name is Rambo, his pic is there also... and I sure love him too..
I did karaoke at Sams, and about 4 other places...at Stardust, the one across from the Rio,( can't remember the name of the dern place) 3 of the 5 were wierd about the kj...and not talking to him...But I had a great time anyway..Heard some really good singers out there..
Yes, I could get a house sitter, but I have issues with that too. I am a wierdo sometimes, ...There is a slim chance my groomer may keep them some weekend so we can go for maybe 3 days...But my Hubby is a trucker which further complicates things...Hoping for a lil time off soon tho..
Hope I didn't bore you with my Vegas tale...I just miss going there , so talkin about it got me thinkin about all the good times.. ...I also flew out, but rented cars when there...Actually I would love to live there but not for too long, lol. I would prolly get in trouble.. ..

Hey you didn't bore me, I really enjoyed the way you wrote about it. You clearly love it there and the surrounding nature areas, too.
I hope you get to go on your vacation!
That is weird, I have never experienced anything like that with KJ's anywhere...
I would love to live there, but not sure if I could take that dryness all the time. It is bad for the voice, too. My s-i-l lived there and she had sore throats all of the time. I imagine you get used to it after a while, but still...bad for your skin, too.

Yes, hard to believe they send folks there to breathe better. I think moist air is easier to breathe...

I guess for some asthmatics, dry air is better...it doesn't seem to matter much to my husband, but then again his asthma is not that bad.
I do think my allergies would probably be better in Vegas...the desert has fewer growing things.
