Who said anything about their actions stopping all piracy? Anyone who'd believe that is naive and I can replace the word piracy with theft, murder, jaywalking or whatever. They were/are trying to recover losses due to theft/misuse or whatever of their product.
What no one knows is what, if any lawsuits have been started or are in the process. Anything said here would be pure speculation as none of us are privy to what SC or any other manufacturer is doing. Just because a lawsuit is dropped, it does not mean the Plaintiff lost. It usually has to do with the two parties coming to a pretrial settlement.

Well, one must keep in mind that even Kurt stated that SC's priority had nothing to do with piracy, but rather "recouping" losses. It was the cheerleaders that swore up and down that SC was leading the fight against piracy, not SC. I have never liked what SC was doing, but in fairness it should be said that they were honest about that. The cheerleaders created that myth, not SC.

Then Joe is is only wishful thinking on the cheerleaders part as to the real motives of SC and other manus, who wish to travel the litigation highway. It is business as the Godfather said nothing personal, as he get's rid of the opposition. One thing for sure you have to take everything expressed on these forums with a grain of salt. Really you have to take an objective view of the karaoke scene around you, and determine what the real situation is, at least locally for you and your business. All the rest of this might be entertaining but it doesn't put a dime in your pocket. Have a nice day.

Just because a lawsuit is dropped, it does not mean the Plaintiff lost. It usually has to do with the two parties coming to a pretrial settlement. Quite a few have been dismissed because SC's attorney's just dropped the ball. Also James has admitted on another forum that some were dismissed because they could not serve the suspects. They did not know basic information like the true identity of the person they were trying to sue or even their real address. Some investigators, I hope the rest of their case information is better researched. It has been stated that about 300 cases have been settled and maybe another 300 are under investigation currently. When you consider there are possibly 48,000 or more karaoke hosts in this country, I would say the investigators have a lot more work to do. A little over 300 hosts are now certified according to our friends the cheerleaders. That is less than half of one percent, more room for improvement there also. Have a nice day.

I don't have anything to back that up though except my memory. In which case...... -Chris

Really only 30,000 hosts Worldwide, I would have to think there are more since we have a world population over 7 billion now. No wonder there is a two hour wait to sing one song. Have a nice day.

Out of all the KJs out there 250 is not really a great start after all this time. It's actually pretty pathetic, IMHO. SC should really reconsider it's approach, or start producing music again, or just shut down and go away. They aren't doing a very good job in the fight against piracy OR in recouping lost profits. The way they are going now, there is NO way they can stay open for very much longer. They may be settling some of the lawsuits, but I am sure they are losing more than they are settling. They are not going to be able to sustain that.

actually, only 56. the others either leased the Gem (how many of which got an audit for their discs or leased as part of a settlement is unknown) or settled with SC (how many were "technical infringers" and either did the $500.00 audit or just settled is unknown). only 56 honest voluntarily certified hosts in the world right now.

I was giving the certified hosts the benefit of the doubt, the number I saw put out by them was something on the order of 337. I like 56 though that would be just about on per state. Hardly enough to meet demand if the venue wanted a certified host. Have a nice day.

That REALLY makes their endeavor pointless. But even at 250, that would even out to 5 certified hosts per STATE!! After 3 or 4 years of litigation and settlements, that is all they have to show for it?? That is REALLY pathetic.

After they have been patted on the head, and told they are good little KJs they get a little piece of paper saying that they won't get sued for a year, and a place on the SC, (in this example), website to let everybody know what good little doggies they are. Until SC or any other vendor becomes a Government agency, they can keep their audit.

Most certified sound choice hosts are in states where they started doing lawsuits--could that be a clue to help you sound choice owners and lawyers? Chartbusters offered 12000 songs for 2000 dollars and automatic cert.--hardly worth stealing and burning time for that. So in review to you hungry manus 1.make it cheap enough--more k.j.s will become(honest) 2.each state with lawsuits generate more(honest)K.J.s in that state. Can you see the way?and this advice for you manus is free
P.S. if the karaoke police get within 200 miles most K.J.s will gladly pitch in 125.00-come see me-Ill pay even more

Count'm up! http://www.soundchoicestore.com/certifi ... pg-69.html-Chris I did. The total number of hosts certified ( as opposed to just being listed as GEM owners or those who have had any problems dismissed) is a whopping 56 KJs. Of that huge number, around 37 are from WA, OR, FL, VA and NC- 5 states. Any guesses why...? Also, please note that NY and NJ, two of the most densely populated and well-known "no nonsense" states have exactly ZERO. Not for lack of trying. A mass suit was instituted here in NJ about 2 years ago. No one cared, no effect, and so far nothing in court. One reason may be that our courts have an extremely strong bad attitude towards Restraint Of Trade. However, I have no idea if SC managed to intimidate some "settlement" payments for their coffers or not. I DO know that all the major actual PIRATES ( track thieves) that they named are still out multi-rigging. Of course, there could be other reasons why this is a bad area for SC's doings as well..... I'm thinking that a"certification" from SC ( which doesn't "certify" anything other than that SC is happy with them - no other guarantees implied or given) won't be knocking the industry on it's ear anytime in the near future.... Maybe good exposure for SC ( or not, as I am coming to learn- venues aren't please with them), but a complete waste of time, money, and energy for the KJ.
