JoeChartreuse wrote: They do indeed. On average, whether my picks or not, it goes something like the following for those with a better than average karaoke education: ...
Duets- Hate to admit it of course, but Sound Choice, with the exceptions of Picture ( Medacy Karaoke Party)and the nauseating "KJ In The Bathroom" PBTDB ( All Hits). ...
I also have everything listed in my books (multiple version from the same Manufacturer as well as by different Manufacturers). For my beliefs on what version I think is better, I placed an * in front of the song code for those songs. As for "PBTDBL," I have 2 choices marked: All Hits (with a notation that words come up for the Narration), and DK (with a notation that the Narration is in the background), because some people like to recite the Narration part, and some don't. I also have my own home made track (not listed in my books) of this song (specifically for couples who truly know the song), where I merged/spliced the DK Narration into the Zoom track (Zoom is the only Manufacturer who gave the most graphics/credits to the Female parts, but they also edited out the Narration). The reason this track is reserved, is because there are 3 very minor defects in it (as a result of my splicing the parts together), and if you don't truly know the song, the female will get thrown off at the part where she is supposed to come in with the "Stop Right There..." part.

IMHO The best version of PBTDBL is on AH 8001. When I do that song, I set the board up to sound like a radio broadcast to do Phil Rizzuto's part. It's fun.

I agree, it is the best version for the singer actually doing the narration. I do the baseball stadium setting for this one with a slight delay and a big reverb trail.

Having been a collector for years before becoming a host, the building of my library has been a long process. The core of my collection is DK, with Chartbuster, Zoom, Pioneer laser,SunFly, on and on. After over 18 years I have amassed a collection of over 18,000 karaoke tracks and close to 6,000 audio. With some Music Videos thrown in for good measure. There is a ton of freeware status material out here as well. When you get down to it you only need 60 to 75 songs per 4 to 5 hour gig, the rest is not used. You really don't even need that much if the singer wants to use their own disc, which about 50% of my patrons on a given night want to do. The one brand I refuse to promote or carry is SC which hasn't effected my business one bit. When considering Elvis you might want to look at the NT SuperCDG it has over 400 Elvis songs on one giant disc. Also the Velvet Elvis offered by MM is quite good if you can get a set, just remember some of the tracks are concert performances. I guess my point is really that you don't need 200,000 songs to run a great show. You just need to have the songs that want to be sung or the ability to play any music your patrons choose to bring in. Have a nice day.

Actually Cueball there is a program to take the SuperCDG and convert it back to original disc format that could be played on your 3-Tray machine. How do you get parts for the JVC, the last 3-Tray made was by RSQ wasn't it? The old 3 Tray won't play some of the newer format discs will they? I have a fellow host that still uses his old 3-Tray, his tech is mine and the tech tells me if it goes down, there are no parts for replacement. Have a nice day.

Mine is not the RSQ machine; however, the RSQ and the JVC ARE the same machine (just different colored lights on the panel). As for parts, I have 3 machines... 1 that I use for shows (although I haven't done a show in over 6 months now), 1 that is hooked up into my stereo system at home (for practice and when I have guests), and 1 that is brand new (and still in its original box). Now, as for the possibility of needing parts (in case of a breakdown), I'm sure they can be found... you can always contact JVC directly for assistance.

The best version is the one that has all the lyrics and swipes to the end of the song and that version is the GEM series version.

Uh, Danny, on AH8001, the Phil Rizzuto (sp?) part is NOT part of the main vocals. It's got word-swipes for the Karaoke Singer to read.

I offer both versions - 9 out of 10 times the version picked is the one the singer has to do the play by play. Just because you hate, doesn't mean it's not wanted. I HATE the song itself, but still offer it. Although I don't believe any manu got it right at the end - SC included (unless they reswiped it for the GEM, it's not that way on my cdg's). There is a duet part on the last lines, I have seen one or the other but not both. Male: It was long ago and it was far away And it was so much better that it is today Female: It never felt so good It never felt so right And we were glowing like A metal on the edge of a knife

So yes it's part of the main vocals for all intent and purposes. All the main vocals are missing from the audio part of every karaoke song unless you're using a multiplex version. All hits is not a complete version anyway so it don't count in my book. I will never give that version, if I had it in my system which I don't, to my own worst enemy. Ninety percent of the time it is a female that wants to sing it with me. I can't carry out the baseball monologue so I prefer it as background vocals.

Thinking about it, I now don't believe The Cloud is targeted for Karaoke Hosts - new or experienced- at all. Nor do I believe the target is the home user.
The only target that at first would SEEM to have a financially feasable reason to subscribe would be venues.
$200/month and unskilled house employee pay ( many times just minimum wage for 4-5 hours) would SEEM like a blessing to the uneducated venue owner in areas where that would be about 1/4 - 1/3 the fee of a skilled Karaoke Host. It would cost them about $75-80 for one night per week four times a month.
Granted, crappy hosting never lasts long, but the uneducated venue owner doesn't know that, and the bad experience could take them off the market for a long time, if not forever.
In other words, I could have been mistaken in my original opinion. While it may help to clear out garbage KJs by taking away their library sales point, it could create even MORE garbage karaoke simply through self-run shows by venues and their staff who don't know any better. This won't cost skilled Karaoke Hosts any current jobs, but could well sour future markets.
The shows my die but the bad experience lingers on...
