That was one of the first karaoke machines I ever saw in action in 89. Only at one place though - it was one of my first experiences. Most were using cassettes with binders full of lyrics sheets - and even fewer had the Pioneer set up with ALL 10 discs, they later up to 23, then 31 (later having to pull numbers 29 & 31 for licensing issues - later to be released as 34 & 35) - these were the ones I tended to frequent!

Smooth, friendly advice - I already know why you don't want your sc in the hd but I do hope you back-up your orig SC discs, if not hardrive at least cd copies. Almost 15% of my sc collection somehow develops small pinholes thru the years that they’re no longer playable. I transferred them from binders to plastic cases to stop further deterioration. I think I’m down now to 7% from ebay replacements & several custom-made.

I thought they don't allow back ups, in any form.

I can give you a lengthy answer but it might develop into a lengthy legalities discussion. I’ll just say “1:1 compliance”. Tracks must have originated from an original cd shifted to another medium only & must maintain ownership & possession of the orig. I think there was a recent policy change (change of mind from higher-ups) about request permission from Slep-Tone after shifting. Again, I don't want this to turn into legalities discussion as it has been covered in length extensively from other threads.

If you aren't using them in shows, yes you can back them up for personal use.

same as a computer, and audit is required. play them till they wear out then get the KC downloads to replace it instead of another disc. same music, sane sweeps, just different color.

Not for personal use - ie not using in shows no audit would be needed. It's if he wanted to actually use them in the show is when audits would be a factor.

If he is still playing off of discs no audit is required. They don't officially audit disc based kj's.

Only if he's using his original discs at a show and not his copies.

Don't really matter at that point, no chance he'll play SC at his show in any manner.

KC isn't for show use, though. I would LOVE to replace my SC with downloaded stuff.

I believe Gretchen stated otherwise. That as long as your client is paying their ASCAPP and BMI dues then it is covered.

I still use my laserdiscs - in mpg format though! These are still preferred versions by many.
I retired the tape deck a few years ago (2006 or 07), would occasionally have people bringing in a cassette, but it became so rare and I had most of the songs (same music versions oftentimes) that there was no point in the hassle anymore.

I stopped using my tapes around 98-99. I have converted my laserdiscs to mp3-g. I still chuckle at some of the graphics from the lasers!!

But that would mean actually finding out if your club is paying those fees!

The place I fill in at does pay their fees. I did a gig the weekend before Halloween, and the owner wanted to talk to me about staying on, though she did not want to pay me enough. Well, she told me that she hasn't paid her fees in a couple of years. Told me outright. I haven't gone back, since.
