Is there any good Karaoke software out there? Here are views.

Siglos Pro – Pro: I love how you can change the background while the CDG plays. It looks amazing the scroll bar on the bottom shows the song playing and the upcoming singer and song. Con: I have 250,000 songs that are all .zip. It takes 15 seconds between each letter you type when searching for a title or artist. This makes the software completely worthless. I also did not like how the singer song interface works. You have to double click for things to even though when you click once it shows as the next singer. When you press next it shows no singer. Also if you find a song and then click on the singer you want to sing it. It will remove the song and you have to search again.

Karma – Pro: Nice user interface. It is fast at searching. Con: The scroll bar is broken. It shows the next singers but not songs. It does not let you have a custom background when playing songs/CDGs. It always shows all the singers on the list if they have a song to sing or not.

Swift Elite 4 – This software is from 2007 and it shows. Very outdated user interface. It does not have a scroll feature. You can not resize the windows. This is worthless.

PCDJ – The ver I tried is older. It is meant to be more of a DJ tool with a couple of Karaoke features. It did not have the scroll.

There has to be someone that offers a great tool that supports a lot of songs. Any recommendations?

MTU Hoster is great in that respect. You catalog your entire song collection once - that size would take about 20 minutes. Then you can search the songs easily via a search screen, double click to add to playlist or add them to the singers history.

You may choose the search to wait for more characters before results are displayed (Settings/KJ cont./Number of characters to start interactive search). If you set this to 4 or 5 the search will work much faster.

Thanks, That helps a little. I wish I could set it to 20, enter the song or artist and press return. When you do that it closes the window and picks a random song. When you set it to 4 or 5 it lets you type 4 or 5 characters then a 15 second wait for the next character.

I'm surprised that the software developers have yet to create a product that would allow them to easily cash-in on all of the KJs that can afford a half million dollars worth of songs.

I tried the demo units of CompuHost and MTU Hoster. They are not so good. It seems like everything was written for Windows 95 and never upgraded.

So far my favorite app is Siglos. But it has issues with a lot of songs. I read a post that it will go faster if you extract all your .zip files back to .mp3/.cdg. That is not going to happen.

Nevertheless :) I created a test database of 300 thousand songs and filling list in Add Singer after two letters were entered took 2 seconds. What are your computer specs, Judgeless?

That laptop is a Core Duo at 2GHz. I just tired it. It takes 2-3 second for each character. I have it set for 4 letters before it searches. For the song ‘Big shot’ I type B i g ‘wait 2 second’ s ‘wait 2 seconds’ o ‘wait 2 seconds’ t ‘wait 2 seconds. The rest of the app is great.

Today I played around with OtsAV DJ 1.90 Esperance. It looks like it will do everything but it has some major issues also. It will not read. CDG files in .zip format. They must be extracted then converted to OTS files before you can use them. I can mass unzip but moving to OTS takes 3 seconds per song. At 250K songs it will take months.

The app has a scrolling Ticker with next sing and song but I cannot get it to work. Does anyone know how to specify a singer with a song in this app? How do you tell the ticker to scroll the next singer? All I can get it to do is static text that I enter.

MTU Hoster will do zip files to and import them into the search.

All this was for a party at the house. I wound up using Virtual DJ and it had issues also. It is extremely slow at finding a song but not as bad as Siglos. It does not let you specify a singer with a song. It does not have a scrolling ticker. What I did like is that it automatically cut the dead air off the front and back of songs and lets you change the start and end points. This kept the party going with nonstop music.

It did have an odd issue. A lot of Sound Choice songs did not play. I would cue them up and they would get and error and never play. The software does not tell you there was an issue. People bitched why I did not play their song. I started writing them down and finding a version that would play.

I am shocked there is not a good app for this simple task. Siglos is my favorite but they need to hire someone that understands how to index a database for fast searches. Waiting seconds between each character you type is ridiculous. The rest of the app is great.

Here is a pic of the setup.

" A lot of Sound Choice songs did not play."
what software did you use to rip the discs in? sometimes it could be an issue with the way it read the disc, some of the mediacloq'd ones especially.

I did not rip the discs. The songs play in every app except Virtual DJ (Siglos, Karma and many others play the same .zip perfect). Their software has an issue.

The only apps that you can change the back ground color of CDG’s is Siglos, are their
others? It looks so good to have a clean background on a big LCD display. Most Sound Choice and SunFly songs do not use a black back ground. It is some shade of grey.

Since Sound Choice has never had songs in MP3+G or zip form (other the GEM Series) available for sale, where did you acquire such a large library without ripping from Sound Choice original cd's? Did I see that you said something about 250,000 tracks......very impressive.

Must be a lot of dupes. There's only 40,000 or so unique songs in kj pro's database.

There was a guy from another forum that took the entire database from KJ Pro and took the time to figure out that there were close to 40,000 unique songs in that database. Now given that it doesn't include the songs available for downloads at sites such as karaoke version and SBIKaraoke you can probably say that there is around 40,000+ songs that aren't duplicates.

so you have a drive full of stolen music that has us professionals jumping through hoops and paying for audits to pay back the manufacturers so we don't get sued?
everyone will have to excuse me for telling you to piss off.
