HUH?

Okay the let me try to explain then you tell me where the error is occuring and I will investigate.

Views: These are when someone clicks on the animated listen button and a new window appears to play the submission.

Comments: there are two areas for this.
1) Song page. This is the total of the comments that have been made onthat particular submission.

2) Profile page: these are the total comments that the person whos profile your looking at has made. If you click on the button next to it you can see all the comments that they have made.

Where is the problem?

phil ive explained it 3 times lmaoo and i already got rob rolling his eyes at me.....ok i think the counters are wacked out which might explain why rob feels this guy did what he did.

firstly....my sub yesterday love me tender shows on main page 27 comments when there is only 26 showing when you open the page...so one counter wrong there

next the comments when you comment on a song....mine is showing 383 and has done for at least the last 5 or 6 maybe more comments that ive made...so that is not adding up correctly.

if these counters are not right it could explain why rob thought this guy had not listened but commented anyways....see the point????

I know that is why I am so confused.

This is because someone did not properly login and made a comment and it was counted as a comment but not to a registered member. I think I fixed that please verify and let me know.

I checked the database currently there are 383 comments that have been submitted by you. I don't seen any stuck in the system that didn't get registered? So I am definetly confused by that. Make another comment (let me know to whom and where) I will then check the system. Strange very strange.

Maybe we have a Halloween ghost or goblin in the system?

I'll see if I can scare him out other wise I may need to cal the Ghostbusters! or Tony Tiber!

Missy, it's when somebody just opens up to see the song. NOT to listen to it. Like, i had one that showed 27 views...but 24 listens.

yeah i know that melly ... its the counters on comments i am making enquiries about and also i know my mate made a comment in my sub i saw it this afternoon went to reply tonight and the comment wasnt showing but the counter was showing the extra comment....phil is now looking into the comments though why mine is saying 383 for the last however many comments i made....the whole point is if the counters are wrong then people may have jumped the gun a little when thinking a person didn't listen but commented anyways....he may have for all we know....but benefit of the doubt i say till we know

Right, you have submitted 383 comments in total. When you ad another comment that will go up. It will show the current total comments in all comments that you make. (Boy that sounds like double talk)

Make another comment and it should so 384. If it doesn't I will need to see where that is going?

I checked all comments that you have made today - total of 32, thus far, you've been busy.

First one was at 01:10:11, last one was at 12:10:52 (server time - I am guessing?) there was a break between comments 04:10:46 - 12:10:16 I guess you got your eight hour break - maybe slipped in a nap.

heres what I figured out on this...when someone deletes a song that you commented on..POOF...there goes a number. Ive been here since FEB,and hvae commented ever since. My comments would be a HUGE number I think,if they were all counted up.My comment numbers in total have dropped quite a bit..which tells me..people are moving subs...to make room for new ones. So...when I remove one of my songs..if you commented on it....your comments gone too.

ok phil its not gone up ya theory is wrong and mine is right...ive just commented in miss independants sub....the counters are wacked!!!...i know i can be a right dim wit at times but i knew i was right on this...if the counters are wacked then it could be that people are listening and its just not registering it

I just saw that MissyGG's views go from 383 to 382 - someone deleted a song! Now she posted a comment and it went back to 383! Oh boy...

Tammy - you've got it... Now if I could just have everyone's attention. Like that is going to work...

Oh well, I just watched it happen - don't know what is going to prove that it is working...

hmmmm well i am getting confused as well.....and maybe if your insisting the counters are right cause of the reasons above...then its not total comments is it really....anyways Rob may be right as i told him when the thread came up...i was just putting my positive head on and thinking maybe there is a logical explanation other than someone couldnt be bothered listening before commenting....i was wrong there isn't but there is def no harm is there ...even with rolling eyes! trying to keep positive

someone just deleted another submission now MissyGG your comment count is 382 again? Boy to keep up...

Here's a possibility or two to explain why someone would comment with causing your 'views' to increase and do so innocently.


Joe Cool listens to your song(s) but doesn't comment.
Joe Cool comes back later and comments only having heard the song previously.

Ms. Cool listens to song and comments (including saving song for later).
Joe Cool listens to cached/copied song and comments.

Ms. Cool listens to song through a proxy server.
Joe listens to song through same proxy and gets cached copy not increasing views. (I don't know how it's coded so this may or may not be possible - Phil might know but it will be dependent on his coding and the set up of the proxy server).

These are only a few possibilities that 'might' explain why you would see the behaviour. I'm not saying they did or didn't do what you say, only that it's possible to comment having already listened to a song without causing 'views' to increase. Some are far fetched, but entirely possible.

I haven't commented in a while so I'm pretty sure it's not me.....

You're right. Short of a 'software' glitch in the counter I have no explaination for this.

With an MCSE/MCT/CNA/A+/Nework+/Security+/15+ years in the computer field - and still no explaination. .

Okay I concede - There may be a glitch in the views counter. I found a method that may explain this but it is technical and it even baffles me.

But to clarify the views counter was just so members could have an idea of how many people have listened to the submission. It is by no means a guarantee - the only counters that are correct for certain are the comments, well at the current time! If someone deletes a song then the comments are deleted also throwing off the accuracy.

Gee all this is getting me confused and I thought I knew what I was doing.

Oh well, let 's not get bent at people - it could be a number of valid reasons that it is not working.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy the site - I am sorry to those that feel poorly about the site, but please don't bash it. It only makes me look bad.

If they do not listen, it is their loss...I do listen and my loss is: the sink is full of dishes and the laundry is piled high and my doggies are asleep at my feet here as I sit and play all the songs I can, because I love to...

I have been staying up till 3, 4 and 5 am since I found this site. I sure am getting ugly from lack of sleep, and my house is a wreck, but I sure like this place and I love music and I am in hog heaven!!!

Ok, time to throw in a load of laundry and get ready for work, darn it! How dare work interfere with pleasure!

Ps. I think Missy and NHOH had some good imput to consider since we have alot of married couples hangin out here, and puters ain't always perfect.

Can't tell you how many times I was sure I left a comment and tripped over the song again and my comment wasn't there...I guess it is also remotely possible that since so many sub the same songs maybe they thought they heard yours but actually heard someone elses...could that happen? Though I would always listen again while I typed and cannot imagine that anyone wouldn't....so I guess I can't clarify this muddy water for you Mene....hmmmmmm, a two paragraph ps, I am rambling....

Just wanted to add my two sense =) I try to listen to as much as I can but I never comment unless I have heard at least 1/2 of the song. What's the point? I do tend to listen to the people who have went out of there way to comment on my songs first. Then if I have time I will go and listen to people I have never heard before. It takes about 3 minutes for a song to download and I enjoy listening to you guys!! I haven't listened in awhile because things have been crazy!!!!!!!!!! I don't know why who ever is doing this but what Jazzy is saying makes sense. My thing is that it is more of an insult to me to just leave a message without listening then it is not to leave a comment at all. I have notice some people above and beyond off key--off pitch and 3 comments are telling this person what they need to fix and then bam the 4th person is like "you were FLAWLESS" im like come on. Everyone i've listened to on here sings great by the way im just stating an example of what I have seen in the past. =)
