LOL. Yeah Britney is even worse. She did an SNL performance last year I think & if you watch her mouth, there were several instances when she wasn't moving her lips or was singing a backup part while her main vocal went on.

This is the staple that basicly says your name and looks can go very far in show buisness.. another example is ozzy osbournes daughter... She would have a hard time coming in last at one of my karaoke contests.......I just dont use that many effects to cover up singers....

You would think that the music industry would have learned their lesson after the M/V incident, also there are so many good singers nowadays but I guess in america we would rather listen to singers images..

I think that's the problem, there aren't all that many great singers anymore. Most of the new singers these days are so sonically enhanced that if they tried to sing on their own, it would just plain suck. This is very much the fault of the producers.

this is why, lonman, why I find it amusing to watch or listen to bands "unplugged" on TV... it really is depressing that I have managed bands with more talent than some of the jokers I see with recording contracts now-a-days... it is no wonder that alot of people think they are more talented than they are because all you have to do is listen to some of these artists today "live" or unplugged and think "hell I could do better than that"... I have heard some karaoke singers that sounded better live on our karaoke system than the real artist live unplugged... crazy crazy industry that is shoveling this crap to us and telling us it is good... that is why I just laughed when I heard about the ashley incident on SNL- my first thought was DUH what did you think you were gonna get??? pavarotti? -tig

This is an article from a reporter at Fox News & it is SO true - especially the last paragraph, THAT would be a PERFECT reality show!!!

Ashlee Simpson's Lip-Synch Lapse

In case you don't know by now, Jessica Simpson's little sister, Ashlee, who happens to have the No. 1 album in the country, had a singing malfunction on Saturday night that may end her career.

Ashlee, the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live," was the victim of a snafu when someone in the control room pushed the wrong button and the same song she'd sung in her first segment began playing again.

Ashlee, who had obviously lip-synched the first song, became confused. Her band tried to switch back into the first song, but Simpson just gave up, did a weird little jig and shrugged off the stage.

Later, at the end of the show, she had the audacity to blame the band for playing the wrong song.

It's no surprise that this latest pre-fabricated pop star can't sing live (and at this point has no shame either).

She joins a rather stellar group of mostly female peers who have been manufactured by managers and record companies. They don't write their own material and they don't sing it either.

They've been created in studios and then sent on the road as karaoke acts. Their fans would be mighty surprised to hear many of the pop stars of today attempt to sing without technological augmentation.

That's why you don't hear or see most of these alleged stars trying the "Star-Spangled Banner" at sports events or even attempt to chime in at jam sessions following awards dinners.

I reported in this column three or four years ago how, at the conclusion of a Clive Davis pre-Grammy dinner show, certain pop singers remained in the audience rather than be exposed on stage.

The ones who could sing did: Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, even Justin Timberlake. The ones who couldn't, or who were too frightened, remained in their seats.

Let's put it this way: In the last five years, though they've often been present, I've never heard Britney Spears or Jennifer Lopez even so much as hum out loud without a full stage set-up, dancers swirling about and lots of back-up singers.

But I have been lucky enough to see Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Alicia Keys, Julia Fordham, Joss Stone, Carla Thomas, Ann Peebles, Natalie Cole, Mary Wilson, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Valerie Simpson of Ashford and Simpson fame (no relation to Jessica and Ashlee) and many others rise to the occasion without a tape or a computer disk in sight.

So here's a reality show guaranteed to get ratings: All of today's pop stars "unplugged," with just a microphone and an accompanist. We'll do a "sing-off" and see who really has the pipes and who has been faking it.

oh amen Lon!!!! I would watch that reality show religously!! it will never happen because I am sure there are a few that would make the American Idol reject tapes with no problem... the reporter nailed it right on the head! -tig

Ed, I love your information. I didn't know that about voices wearing out near the end of a tour. I thought that if people were trained right, they had mega stamina, but I guess not, cool.

And Melly, I'd watch ya sing live..I love your voice and style! You remind me a lil bit of Christina Amphlett from Divinyls, but mostly you're just you. You should do that song "I Touch Myself"!!! Then again, you might be too classy for that song. I've heard it way too many times at shows where chicks do it as a desperate ploy for attention.

Those singers that Lonman talk about should visit some of the Karaoke club and be asked to sing thier own number. I think they will frick out.

That's the reason I like to watch alot of the Country Awards Shows, nobody has all thier wisles and bells, just a Mic and it's EQed and sent out for everyone to hear what they really sound like. I am always amazed at who can't sing. I give them the benifit of sveral shows before I judge thier vocal talent, as anyone can have a bad day or just getting over a bad cold or what ever, but not every time they do an awards show.

Lol, I didn't even know who ashlee simpson was, and hadn't seen SNL that night:) My little sister was talkign about it this morning though, and sent me this..

------>(AP) If Ashlee Simpson's stomach was upset Saturday night, imagine how she's feeling now.

Busted for a "Saturday Night Live" lip-synch gone awry, her manager-father said Monday his 19-year-old daughter used the extra help because acid reflux disease had made her voice hoarse.

"Just like any artist in America, she has a backing track that she pushes so you don't have to hear her croak through a song on national television," Joe Simpson told Ryan Seacrest on Los Angeles radio station KIIS-FM. "No one wants to hear that."

(Then, blah blah blah)

He said it was his decision to use the tapes when it became apparent that acid reflux disease had swollen Ashlee's vocal cords. After consulting Wayne Newton's doctor, she received a cortisone shot to get her ready for the "Radio Music Awards," he said.

It was the band's drummer who pushed the wrong button onstage, he said.

*** I have to say, sort of amusing... now, I have to go find out who this chick is, and see if I even KNOW her music;) Well, not really her music.. I have to admit, I only listen, and honestly enjoy "artists" Those that write, or CAN write their own music, and at least plays ONE instrument on their album... geez, at least get out a triangle... And, now, to have all of these, that alogn with not writing their own music, or playing any instruments, they can't even SING?! lol, Looking at her now, what IS going for her? Does she dance? because, she isn't very attractive!

ok, enough rambling.

Acid reflux eh?

hey acid reflux is a serious condition and should be treated as such! I blame acid reflux on stunting my growth, some bad relationships, the band Wham, people with mono-brows, and the absence of weapons of mass destruction among many other things that are caused by acid reflux disease... acid reflux is also responsible for many of my more sarcastic posts and after listening to some subs I am thinking that acid reflux has ran amuck in the singer's showcase... please please please if you feel, or hear, acid reflux disease raising it's ugly head during a sub just remember to dance a little jig and run off stage, you can blame the band later... hmmmm I wonder if acid reflux made the band screw up too???? I think maybe terrorists have snuck in a acid reflux dirty bomb to sabotage our youngest and most talented artists and before we know it every boy band and pop tart will be gone before our very eyes!! OH THE HUMANITY!!! *sobbing*...........

wait....

that may not be a bad idea... someone call Ashcroft and make it happen... did you know that acid reflux screwed up the vote count in florida??? all of those poor senior citizens unable to sing in the voter's booth... you really wanna know who killed Kennedy??? yup.. acid reflux... that whole UFO thing down in Roswell was nothing but swamp gas built up from a statewide epidemic of acid reflux... there is a conspiracy here, people, to keep the dangerous facts about acid reflux a government secret! we must be vigilant and fight the tyranny of acid reflux... take control of it before your career is ruined just...like...ashley... simpson's...
Anyone got a Tums? ...-tig

Well....if it was "acid reflux"...but still, sad, sad excuse!

It is so funny how all the blame is on everything else, but Ashley.

The drummer pushed the "wrong button".....well, I am sure if it were the drummer, they would have stopped playing.

She could have done anything but walked of stage. Even if she sang the same song again, at least it would not have looked so bad!

She could have stopped it! Her mic probably was not even on, that is why she did not say anything!

Just like all those singers on AI "I have a cold, so I am not going to sound as great as I always do"

I mean really!
