I know some of you here are probably doing this already, but not everyone here is a seasoned veteran!

Instead of tossing all the song slips in the trash at the end of the night (as I've done for years) I've started saving them. I separate them by singer, paperclip them together and then put them into a file box in alphabetical order. I usually toss out duets (singing partners can change from night to night) or singers that are obviously "passing through" and probably won't be back any time soon (several of my shows are in hotel lounges). My regulars, and even not-so-regulars love it. They can come and pull their old slips out of the box and save the trouble of looking through the books since most people have less than 10 songs they sing anyway. It also gives them the opportunity to sing the song they wanted to sing last time but ran out of time. I get a lot of, "Oh yeah! I forgot about that one!" type comments since I started doing this.

It's also self regulating. They get their old slips and the songs that they may have tried and will never try again usually will get tossed (by them, not me) never to be seen again!

Just one more customer friendly idea for you to try. It's the little things that you do at your shows, the things that show you care about your singers more than Joe Schmoe down the road that will keep your singers coming back to YOUR show week in and week out! And if they keep coming back, you get to keep working!

I have done this, but have been in the same place for over 12 years so the slips themselves got to be unmanagable over time. I finally had to drop it, but most of the singers took it upon themselves to hang on to their own slips & bring in their stack when they come in. I still do it in my small system, but even now I getting to a point where I am hanging on to about 4 separate file holders now.

I thought of doing this but haven't so far. Many of my shows are single events so it wouldn't apply so much but as next summer rolls around and I start doing shows regularly again I'll be looking at doing this.

Sounds like a great way to build return business.

Big Mike, we have found the value in your system quite some time ago, and as you say, it makes happy customers. We stick to it as well.

Lonman, WOW! playing at the same place 12 years, by this time you probably know everyone and what they sing! If you kept slips, then Big Mike's file box would probably resemble a filing cabinet on your stage.

One of my friends has made personalized slips for her regulars.

She has her usual blank slips, but they have the person's name on it.

She keeps them all in a binder, so it makes for easy carrying :)

I think it is a great idea! Saves me time anyway :)

We also keep the singer slips. We place them in snack ziplock bags and then file them. Every few months we will go through them and take the ones that may have only came to one show and toss them. The down side to keeping the slips is that the regular singers usually don't look in the books for songs so they sing the same songs week after week. One other reason for keeping the slips is we are tracking our shows by how many singers and how many song are sung per show. The shows at the bars we are doing were hurt by the last KJ's, os this one way for us to judge our performance.

Nope, can't do it!!

As long as you guys continue to do special stuff like this for your patrons, I don't think you can go wrong! People have a need to feel special and that will bring 'em back every time! :)

I think it's a COOL idea........ I've never been anywhere where they did that...... It sure would be convenient though!! I only go to one place all the time and that would make it so much easier! especially when it's really busy and there's no more books to look through!

Crystal, THAT is exactly the one reason I started doing that.....Since they ALREADY know....it makes it easier for everyone.... And if they try a new on and like.....i just add it on..

Which is a small part of the reason why I quit doing that - besides the storage situtation, people DID quit looking in the books & the nights became VERY predictable from the steady regulars. New songs weren't getting done as often.

I still do it in my mobile system though.

I've been saving the song slips of my "regulars" for some time now.
They do appreciate it and it shows them that little extra they might not get at the OTHER show in town. One night I would like to tell all the regulars that they can't have there slips and will HAVE to sing something new!... I don't think that will go over to well. Besides there are some non singers that always request from the regulars to sing their SIGNATURE songs.... SAVE THE SLIPS - great PR move, but prepared to get a few file boxes !! :D

As we don't pay for our slips, we don't save them. We advertise on them, the more out, the better. The big problem I find with saving slips is that the singers get comfortable with the same old same old. By them rewriting each time, there is the probability that they will go through the books and find something new.

I like it both ways. One thing I always did as a singer with a huge stack of slips is I always tried to do something different once every couple of visits!
