They do on another site (admin has warned me about saying where)
I have pasted up to Phill a review page of that site in an e-mail, and it's quite a process to review songs.. you do these songs at random... you pick a genre to review then the server will assign you a song to review.

there are many items to rate on a score of 1-5
and then an overall score of 1-5

then you must type in what you liked about the song or what made the song good (pro)

and must (Again) type in what took away from the song (if anything if nothing you still must find something to be critical about)

As I have always found out in the indiustry there is ALWAYS a downside to every song and a positive... it's never always one or the other..

Then submit it back to the database. and compare them to other reviews after you reviewed it blindly to others...

So far I have not been off but once out of 55 reviews that was only on the suggested songtitle. my scores have been right there with every other reviewer. (and NO angry E-mails.) some real good ones though! :-)

Missy, MANY of us expect if a ranking system is in place, then it best be done fairly and try to be as impartial as possible. Tigger is just the latest of those of us that are finally asking for HONESTY in the reviewing process.

christ lassie if i did that not only would it not make me feel great because i am NOT QUALIFIED to make judgement it would go against my beliefs that it takes courage and bottle to sing and sub....
I actually like this comment... maybe that's the whole pulse of this throbbin' animal.

Some people don't "critique" because they feel that they're not qualified.

Tigrr and I were just talkin' about this on the phone. EVERYONE is qualified to judge sound, unless you're tone-deaf. EVERYONE that subs here knows what they like and DON'T like about their own stuff, as well asl other people. I've heard some submissions where I just MELT... the vocals are dead on, and maybe sexy as all get out. And I've heard good performances, but the vocals may not be RIGHT for the song. That happens a lot with gender-benders or singing a song in a different range. If I hear a bass singer do a 1st tenor song, sometimes it just doesn't "sound right".

maybe have the ranking split into three sections:

Mix
performance
Overall

I don't think it's fair to judge a submission if it's a midi song, or an original one. Not EVERYONE has access to ALL the karaoke songs out there! LOL! In fact, a buddy of mine insists on using the Billy Joel BACKSTAGE disc for his songs, rather than the Pioneer or SC stuff, which I feel is immensely superior!

Food for thought!

Matt

((edited: I just now saw Brian's comment about the "other" site... and the differences of the "rating" system.)) Hmmm, Brian, seems I was onto something there! LOL!

Tigrr, I'm happy to have made you laugh! And you're quite right with what you've said; it is true that great minds think alike.

And Missy, sorry if my earnest and passionate longings for honesty and fairness are stressing you out. If you've read my posts here I've stated more than once and here I shall do it once more:

SOME SONGS HERE SUCK. SOME SONGS HERE GOOD. IF EVERYONE HERE TELL EVERYONE HERE THEIR SONG GOOD WHEN SOME ACTUALLY SUCK, THAT SUCK.

And you think I was "quite rude with Luly"....awwwwwwwwwww babygirl, you ain't seen nothin'. Don't presume that you know better than I do why and how I should speak to someone a certain way. I've been on this earth 39 years and I can think for myself.

WELL, that oughta do it....

Get this... I got accused of subing something that wasn't mine without allstar directly saying in my sub "You Didn't Sing This" in "Papa Loves Mama" and I didn't use any vocal tricks.. no fancy plug-ins.. just audacity and a killer track that I really rehearsed to death, and I know the arrangement well. I consider the source... It wasn't even as good as he made it out to be... Ya Know?

I don't miss the girl.... I still miss the truck....

let's not get personal here folks. If you have something to say to someone on a PERSONAL level, keep it off the main board, and limit it to PM or email. This thread WAS doing good until someone had to get frickin' personal.

There's no room for that kinda stuff, and if they truly want to get ino that kind of personal confrontations, I think MANY of us could go there. We quite simply WONT.

SO in my opinion and the rules of the board, be the better person and not start the flames!

Not talkin' to anyone in particular. If you're doing it, then slap your own hands! LOL! I have better things to do!

I DID read everything you said, I just pointed out the part that was like "an attack".

Like you, I'm done with this conversation. If I want to fight, I have plenty of places to go do that. I think this whole thing got turned way out of proportion... but I do believe in the rules, if you want to say something to someone that could be construed as private, then KEEP it private.

Most of us have the PM option available to us. The only time I'd say something to someone that's private is I'd ask them to send me an email or a pm so I could do so IF I couldn't find their contact information.

SHAEESH.

And Missy... I like Tigger... but we've only recently been talking. I gave you the very same courtesy. so I'm not just sticking up for her.

BeachHeadBum, this time you have gone way to far! It took me quite some time to read the sub that Tigger started. Once again, you took someone elses topic and turned it around in your favour. Once again, it's all about Brian!

This time you have done it! You are the (@$%&#!) who was whining about not getting comments on your subs, the when you get anything negative, you start off calling me names. Of course I will send you an email then and take you up on it! If anyone wants to know what I wrote him, ask me, I'll make my PM public!

Then you go ahead and say I need to earn a little respect first? Respect from you? I'd rather cut my throat then to have any connection with you. You're an obnoxious, full of yourself, insecure (@$%&#!), and I don't need your respect. As somebody mentioned to me (name witheld to protect the innocent) BeachHeadBum,, welllllll he really does get on my ### excuse the expression because he is so far up his own ####

Let's see what really happened there........(the following is my comment on BHB's sub yesterday)

Brian, I listened to all your previous available subs, and this one was by far the best. The only question I have is that why is this one 95% on key, while the others were not. I'm sorry, but this does not sound like you. I could be wrong, but that's my humble opinion. This one is far better then any other sub I have heard before.
Reply: Because I actually sang on this one because I wanted to. Allstar.. the others are for fun. there is a difference. my imaginary friend.. I don't sub to compete or show off or do it for the ratings.. I do it purely for the the fun of singing. Like it or not

Talk about dissection right? Now…………
You said - It wasn't even as good as he made it out to be... Ya Know?
I said "and this one was by far the best" I never said it was good Brian
You Said - got accused of subing something that wasn't mine
I said "I'm sorry, but this does not sound like you"
See Brian, once again, you have taken words, twisted them around and made them your own. But keep on nailing me Brian, I like it! Remember, The highest trees catch the most wind my friend!

And if I get kicked of this site because of my statements, then so be it.

MY GOD!

I went to bed to what was a nice thread debating about rankings and why Tig felt the site is being unfair to her.

Now, I am here reading all these slams on everyone.....Take it to PM!

Tig, if this was a site about critiqing people, then there would be a lot more than 400 characters for us to type in. I am sorry. I don't believe that you can do a good critique of someone's song in 400 letters.

Yes, you can point out they were pitchy at this spot, and yes, their mike level was a bit high, but other than that, there is not enough room.

I don't agree either, with your statement, that people don't do this for fun. Well, as for the "cat in heat" statement, when I sing, my cat is right on my lap meowing with me. I don't care. If there happens to be a couple of cat meows with my voice, great, all the better...now I get to make a joke about my cat singing.

Actually, if I had an extra mic, I would add his vocals to my track and do a kitty duet. If I got a 2 for it, well who the heck cares!

I have known more than half thses people for at least a year now. Lots of them I met online, and never thought I would have made the friendships I did. You learn who is doing this for fun, and who actually wants to get critiqued. For one, I have learned Gilly does not. She sings and posts because when she has a bit of time off, that is what she likes to do.

Some people like to garden and show off their flowers. Some paint and show off their paintings. I like to sing, and this is how I get to share my passion.

I too, have my "original" music on another site, and guess what, they are all just as supportive as the people here. There are a few that come and actually tell me what is wrong with my songs. I thank them. There are the ones that also come, probably don't even listen to my songs, and leave a comment anyway.....advertising themselves at the same time. I leave them up as well. To me, it is a ring of musicians, and we are all looking out for eachother.

They give just as many positive critiques about my music as the people here do. They sing for the passion as well. They look for my positive reinforcement, just as the people here do.

I also have a lot of people there that truly just enjoy my voice. They keep on asking and asking when I will have more songs up. They just want to hear me. Maybe they are also 'blowing smoke up my (@$%&#!)', but I don't care. It is nice to know that someone cares about you.

I can tell you every thing I think wrong with your song. Well, guess what, the next person will come and tell you totally contridicing statements to the ones already made.

It is the same reason as to why movie critiques can go and slam a movie, and then when I go see it, I love it. IT IS ALL SUBJECTIVE !!!!!!

This really sux. :(

Ritisroo - You are a class act! I've really enjoyed what you've had to say and you've summed up everythng just right.

LOL @ your kittycat...forget a duet, I wanna hear a kitty solo! Maybe I'll record my bird singing along with me sometime - I have to put her out of the room when I record. :D

Tigger, why not give that site that BeachHeadBum was talking about a try...sounds like that's more what you're looking for.
