Thanks Lonman for bringing this to our attention.

Question TO ALL:

If a KJ wanted to start ALL OVER AGAIN FROM SCRATCH, where do you even begin to be legal? :?

Sing on American Idol..

Seriously JD? As a MODERATOR i'd expect something MORE from YOU.

Believe it or not it was a valid question.

So a guy puts in his time for free and provides us with something that without it, there would be no web site, and he can't make a joke. This place is getting so full of prudes, and people that make you walk on egg shells with each stroke of the keyboard......there's no symbol on here to express how pi$$ed off I've become.... I just made myself laugh...

Perhaps I'm a bit jaded.. butt, the manus have been pirating more than anyone else,
and then they get bent when others follow their lead..

Then the "Pay Me or I'll Sue" business plan.. sort of left a bad taste in my mouth..

How is a KJ supposed to determine who made legal product? And where can he buy it legally?

Company XYZ licenses for 10,000 presses of a disc.. and ships 30,000. Who's to know?

Company CBA licenses through 01/01/2001, and presses and ships through 01/01/2004. Who's to know?

So my answer remains, try American Idol.. because the system is broken..

And it's not the fault of honest KJs..

OK I'm a little confused (as usual) but it doesn't say that they are going after the manu's it says:

EXHIBIT “16” to COMPLAINT FOR INJUNCTION AND DAMAGES WARNER/CHAPPELL MUSIC, INC., ET AL. v. KARAOKEXPRESS, ET AL. (Plaintiffs’ copyrights bearing the unlicensed “Sound Choice” brand and appearing on expresskaraoke.com and/or karaokexpress.com)

It appears to me that KARAOKEXPRESS is manufacturing discs with those manu's brand and appearing on expresskaraoke.com and/or karaokexpress.com.

I think that the ORIGINAL manu's had a licensing problem that was (maybe) cleared up and this company is producing discs without the permissions!

I don't see anywhere where it says they are going after SC, CB, Sunfly, or Pocket Songs.

If it is true that SC and the others did not license these songs then HL is completely wrong when he says that SC has no unlicensed songs....What say you Jim?

I wasn't on this sight yesterday, so when I woke up this morning and linked in, I got a big suprise with all of this.
I, like kjathena, am going to take a wait and see approach. It is distressing to know am paying for two products (the full Gem Series and the 12,000+ hard drive) that have a possibility of making me illegal.
I am fortunate that I am not trying to make a living at this, only trying to make extra $$$ and have fun doing it. I have a constant source of income to live on, but, that being said, I don't like the idea of dumping several thousand dollars for a bill of goods.
It makes me really wish even more that I wouldn't have had all of my 11 years worth of karaoke library stolen out of my storage unit last July.

To tell you the truth, we're pretty puzzled by that complaint, because it does not appear to match up with facts I know to be true (having seen them with my own eyes). We're in the process of trying to determine exactly what their accusation is. We know, however, that it does not apply to the GEM series, because the defendants in that case did NOT distribute the GEM series (no one but SC does that).

....Although that's good or great news for the KJs that purchased/lease the GEM Series, I still wonder if this case is some form of counterfeiting various Karaoke Manufacturers' CDGs (obviously those that were out of print and or possibly some that might have contained unlicensed tracks). Don't know?

I don't know. It's an accusation in a complaint, and not a very detailed one at that.

I have bought from ProSing & Express Karaoke. ProSing I always got legit discs. Express I bought one Rebel Sync disc that was a burn & paper label. I tried contacting them about it and they never returned my inquiries.

...That's interesting. But of course I find it kind of strange that this guy would own several different named Karaoke Online web site stores, why not just one name?

Prosing sold me burns back in the late 90's already which was why I never dealt with them again.

So when I see the GEM set being sold through a retailer, they do not actually have the set, but someone wanting it place an order through the retailer & the retailer continue the order to SC - kind of like a drop ship? So the retailer still gets a commission of the sale, but don't actually deal with the product directly. Correct?

I don't find that odd really. Why not branch out with several stores. The way some people believe in their own minds is hey I don't like this store, but they do shop at this one - not knowing they are really the same store rebranded.
CompUSA.com and tigerdirect.com are both computer stores - many don't know they are one in the same.

The retailer refers the purchaser to SC and receives a referral fee when the transaction is completed. The retailer never touches the product and--unlike a drop-ship situation--is not involved in the transaction.

OK, just for clarification.

A question for Jim Harrington:

Warner/Chapell's suit claims that 171 titles being distributed were - and I quote from the Complaint For Injuction And Damages- "unlicensed Sound Choice brand.."

Are you saying here on a public forum that all 171 tracks have full U.S. licensing and permissions, and that what they are saying is untrue? Please clarify?
