What are you scripting in? Perl, PHP, VB, java, something else I didn't mention.... back end?
What about naming the gif's 5.gif, 15.gif, 20.gif, etc. You could then call the graphics bydispint(rank*10).gif? A little off the wall perhaps... but I sometime come up with the strangest solutions...

I like that idea... however, I need to adjust the rating scale as well. You know where the listener submits their choice of rank.
I am using php it is an easy thing to configure:
Code: if (rate=="1") { echo "1.gif"; } elseif (rate=="2") { echo "2.gif"; } etc.
There are several factors though. I need to modify the entire database with the new #s and modify the pages with the new script and rating system. I need to make the change when few people are on the site., so I can activate the changes.
Also, the images that I am using are small (file size) but I don't have half images, yet. I was asking around the site previously for assistance with that. but I am not real happy with these either...
see image samples below:
Thanks

Is there a reason you're using the blanks where there aren't stars? I'm assuming it may be for maintaining the spacing on the page....
I'm rebuilding my laptop and will load Paint Shop Pro when I'm done with these stupid OS updates and see what I can do. The shadowing effect on the stars makes them less clear and would probably create problems with the 1/2 stars IMO. I can leave it or clean them up... I'll also give you a couple sample on the stars so you can decide which you would prefer.

If ya use bigger stars you might inflate someone's ego...
I think smaller is the way to go... even in Dallas the Cowboys wear bigger Helmets. and jailsuits!

ATOMIC -
Thank you, the smaller ones do look nice!
KJDennDogg was trying to assist previously with the images.

Thanks, look forward to seeing your talents as well. and you are correct I guess I don't need anything less than a one star.
----
What I am looking for is 1, 1.5, 2 ... 4.5, 5 stars
I need them to be relatively similar in size to the images below, the shadowing isn't required but the size of each image must match for spacing. They do need to be small, but still distinguishable as stars.
You folks are terrific.

unless it's going to cause a problem I'd recommend only showing the full star and the partial stars... and NOT the empty ones.
If someone were to give three and a half stars, it would be easy to see from a simple glance.
my thoughts only. as Tig says, you're mileage may vary!

knightshow - yes, that is what I was attempting to state.
The stars should be displayed but the spacing should be the same.
How to word that???

ATOMIC -
You are definitely on the right path.
Why is it that the first star appears outlined while the others do not? If you can fix it so that they are either all outlined or none are that would be terrific. Oh and is the background set as transparent, it appears to be but???
Email them to me webguru @ karaokescene .com
Many Many thanx you're terrific!

OK, I can't manage to get rid of the outline without losing too much clarity, so I've outlined all of them instead... let me know what you think...
Edit...... Ooops, just re-read your post... have emailed them
