Phill,
How about taking your 5 star idea.. and let say averageing the scores...
to set up a default setting from 0.000 to 5.000 stars incase someone gets a star average of 4.666 stars  It is highly unlikely they would get that many replies but also quite evil. going this far in the average would reduce ties and the numbers of 5 star performances or claimed revenge performances and make it a lot harder for someone to achieve a 5 star performance without deleting a song. If you were a true competitor you would take your ranking and accept it as I see it..
But the members would only get to rank on 1-5 star performance.

good luck...

Hold it.. I just re-read my post.. I'm not gonna go back and edit .. but I will ammend it here.. "the average should be from 1.000 stars to 5.000 stars"
not as previously stated "0.000 stars to 5.000 stars."

I see that somebody's post was deleted I appologise if i roughed up anyone's feelers  for my error in checking my post for errors of intent as I intended to originally write it..

Hi Phill, I was wandering if it could be possible to add a 70's genre. I think that decade has all the merits to deserve it.
Thanks for your consideration and all the super improvements.

I 3rd that.. I do enough 70's stuff personally to qualify alone (ego trip time) to justify a 70's genre...

Great job Tony on bringing this up! 8)

well, here's my spot on the 70s... or sixties or fifties or whatever we wanted to add...

we can do all that, but I thought the "oldies" was for anything over the 80's! LOL!

In all honesty, each decade introduced different types of music. So in many ways, I don't like lumping them up under "oldies"... however, even the 80s is twenty years ago! LOL! Guess that fits now after all!

I know (atleast in my own mind) BSS would probably step up on this next request... and maybe a few others....

Phill... SIR, (now I'm kissing up)

Could you please add a Bluegrass Genre also? :?

Thanks... :D

Last night on Family Guy the mom (Louis) made a comment about Whitesnake. The daughter said 'What's Whitesnake?'. To which Louis replied 'It's the music that mommies and daddies listen to." Man I felt old about then..... REAL old.....

Well done on the New Comments on the subs. I would never have gone back in and checked mine if I hadn't accidently clicked on my name while doing something else. It brought up my albulm, and I noticed a new comment. On a song I subbed a month ago!

Well done Phil! Page loads ten times faster! I still have some problems whenever it comes to clicking on the songs, and they take forever to start playing! Could be my connection, though!

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback and ideas...

I will start cracking on some of them tomorrow.

For now, I have been working on a few background items.

Take for example - Top Ranked Songs (Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Half Year, Annual & Overall.) I have adjusted this to actually calculate the top ranking by using the following:

First, of course, Rank
Then how many votes.
Then how many comments.

Let's say three submissions have a rank of 10.
Two have had 5 votes and one had 4 votes. The first two would display higher than the third.

Then of these top two let's say that one had 10 comments where the other had 9 comments. The one with the greater amount of comments would be listed higher.

I think this is a fair system.

Now of course to recalculate everything so that it is using a star rating (1-5 stars) I am working on this...

What are your thoughts?

Still based on popularity... how about averaging them?

If not look at at the *broadjams* rating system.. it appears to be a scripting job but the critiquing system is a good one in my opinion.

If you need a screen shot of this page mailed to you let me know..

I tried to find that site... Server could not be found ERROR!

Brian -

Try sending these ideas via a PM or email instead of posting web addresses to competitor sites.

BTW - The scores are averaged! If a submission receives three votes one a 10, one an 8, and one a 6 the rank is an overall eight. ( (10+8+6)/3 = 8 )

Then they are calculated as whether the received more votes then more comments.

I think you may not have understood how this functions.

Phill:

While you are it here is something I mentioned before. Is there any particular reason why we are taken back to the singer's profile after commenting on their sub???
 IMO, it will be better for us to be sent to the page where we were at or to the first page. It will save us a little more time on a real heavy load of listening.
INPUT_________, PLEASE

Was getting ready to walk out the door...

However, for a brief explanation:

1st - you are sent to the profile of the person whos submission you just ranked/commented on in order for the info to be inserted into their records and this updates the members profile.

2nd - after you have entered your comments and/or rank you are sent to the submittors profile, so that you can see other submissions that they have submitted.

I hope that helps...

Thank you so much!!! I knew there had to be a technical reason for it.

I just E-mailed Phill a "Paste up" of *the* review page and a link. I think some may find it more than pleasing and quite neat to try.. Phill may be busy trying to implement it... If he finds it appealing to him..

It's really thorough...

Divide all the rating by 2. A 10 is now 5 stars, a 9 is 4.5, etc.

That would allow all ratings to fall across a .5 - 5 ratings scale allowing the same resolution with half the scale. (I hope that makes sense).

This would allow for the migration of the existing rankings into the 'new' system.

Just my .02 worth of technical lunacy...

karaokemeister -

Okay that I figured... :) divide it by two!

What I am working on is to display the stars. That is where the scripting comes into play and I need to do it in such a method that it doesn't slow the site down. I am working on this and calculating the load times...
