Hey!

So, what is everyone's favorite moment at karaoke...a time when you had a standing ovation, fell off the stage, anything crazy :) .....here is mine:

Before CI came into town, my friends and I were entered into a CI audition type thing like Heather did. When it was all said and done, we finished on a Saturday at about 5:00 p.m. My friend had to do karaoke that night.

Well, we went to karaoke, and all had been up for about 40 hours straight...with no sleep..ugh! Anywho, we were all in a pretty crappy mood, and I decided to sing "Without You" my Mariah Carey...as our day had been bad enough, it could not get any worse.

Anyway, this was right after Mr. Entertainment switched boxes, and they were still working out the glitches in the songs that were on the box.

Well, my song came on, and low and behold it was the vocal version rather than the karaoke version! So, I said, to hell with it, and kept on singing. Then, halfway through the song, I got lazy and just lip synched. Did the whole mariah arm waves, microphone moves, everything.

My friend was laughing her butt off!

So, this eventually became my thing...and when we went to karaoke a few weeks later, they asked me to do it again....and I did. The funny thing was is there were a couple people in the bar that truly believed it was me singing, even though we were all laughing our butts off!

One guy came up to me and told me that was the best karaoke he had ever heard! It was hilarious! They all eventually found out I was faking though...when the next singer said it was the best Mili Vanili perforamance he had ever heard since them :)

So, last month, we went to karaoke, and my friend wanted me to lip synch to it again...so I said sure, what the hay, it is all in fun!

Well, I got up on stage, looking at the audience, all ready to lip synch to the song, and opened my mouth, and no words came out LOL! They had fixed the song, and I was up there looking like a complete fool!

Good times! LOL!

falls about laughing...oh your poor girl...but funny!!....i have to admit that i don't go to many karaokes only when i am on holiday and to be quite honest if you know much about british package holidays you could sound like a muppet on crack and you would still get applause and sound great cause everyone is normally too drunk to know different or really care hehehehe...i once had an embarrassing moment on stage when i was 16 i was in a performance of oliver and during the oom pa pah song i was sitting on a table when one of the cast got a bit carried away with their performance and knocked me....yes i feel off the table in the performance to a packed auditorium...i was ribbed soo much after by the cast but the audience thank god didn't know any different because its meant to be like a drunken scene ....phew lol i was saved hehehe

Darn, I don't have a funny karaoke story:) BUT, when I was 16, I passed out on a stage, falling A LONG way, with my euphonium... During a huge performance... gave myself a black eye, and everything, stopped the whole concert;) (Yes, I am a BAND geek:)

And another time, I was in a big Jazz competition, and was using a friends tbone, (I had forgotten mine, yes, typical of me:) The slide was SOOO well greased. I was so used to my slightly bent, pitted one, that was a lot harder to move... Anyways, we were all standing up (the trumpets players and tboner stand up behind the sax players, etc) anyways, during a REALLY fast song, my fingers got all sweaty, and I kind of let go of the slide.. and it flew off, between two sax players heads, off the stage, and landed in front of the judges... it was towards the end of the song, so the director stepped up, kept everyone going, and I stood there like a complete idiot, while everyone finished the song. Lol, I got a BIG clap at the end:)

The other day at a local venue I sang 'What a Wonderful World' and dedicated it to my fiance. When I finished I had a huge standing ovation from the crowd and even had one lady come up and tell me with tears n her eyes that her husband played it right before he asked her to marry him - exactly 30 years ago that day. It was a very touching moment.

It's also a far cry from when I sang. er, butchered, 'One Night in Bangkok' by Murray Head last year. When I finished that one even the crickets quit chirping.

   Funny shtuff girls LMAO over here.. gosh, I haven't been to karaoke that many times. Less than 10 i'm sure.. gotta find some singing buddies in this town..

so I don think I have a good story to tell about those experiences, but I'll think about it some more.. In the meantime I do like Missy have a couple things involving shows I was in..

I guess the most eventful show was "Kiss Me Kate" .. I have a scene where the leading guy was to drag me to a stool sit down and throw me over his knee and start spanking me.. He was sooo into the part and so animated that he threw me too hard and off the stool we both went.. I got pretty scraped up. lol Thank God it was a dress rehearsal, but nonetheless embarassing with people still in the audience and all the cast watching.

On opening night I threw a stool into the orchestra pit on accident and just about took out my boyfriend (now fiancee).. The conductor yelled out "incoming" and they all had to duck out of the way LMAO.. was SOOOO embarrassed. It was hard to not laugh and I'm sure there was a look of shock on my face when it went over the edge lol. My poor bf.. I also nailed him UGLY in the head when playing volleyball. (we were meant to be :) lol) I got my just rewards though when some other guy ran me over a couple plays later lol...

more stories people.. this is fun :)

awww KM.. that's such a nice story :) must have made you feel really good..

Gilly.. OMG.. that's too funny girl. It probaby wasn't at the time hehe.. I can't reacall if i've had any major mishaps on the instrumental front.. Most of mine have luckily been things that I think nobody noticed.. Like the time our college jazz band was at a major convention and the sax section had this huge soprano sax soli, but it was a fast transition to get to the horn, so when I picked mine up, I got my neckstrap caught in one of the tone holes and couldn't get any sound to come out. I didn't want anyone to noticed so I just mimed it lol..

Lol, I once had this huge jazz solo... again, in a competetion... and I had a friend of mine, a HILRARIOUS guy, sitting in the front row.... I stood up (they made us walk to the front of the stage) and then, started playing... looked up at him.. and starting laughing... and just couldn't stop, nervousness, and everythign kicked in, and I jsut stood there, in front of the mic laughing incredibly loudlyat him, half peeign my pants. SOOOO embarrasing, and to this day, the director (who I am REALLY good friends with, still) makes fun of me:)

Lol, but as a NONE embarrasing moment, at a performance, a simply one and NOT a comp. I filled the wide section of my tbone with skittles (the don't pass through the actual slide) and then put my tbone back together, during a 6 PAGE lull in my part, fired them all at the woodwind section. whacked them all REALLY hard in the backs etc. and got two in a tuba (my sister played the tuba;) Lol, the director never found out exactly who it was.... but, I think he suspected me:) (who wouldn't?)

OH, lets all sing "Gilly's a geek"

(Lol, Jazzy, I have had similar "pit" stories...things flying down at me, friggin theatre people.. hehe:)

OMG gil.. you were one of THOSE mean ol' trombone players huh? Yea I know you guys.. I was a sax player so of course I had "your kind" right behind me making mayhem lol. NOTHING so creative as you though.. skittles?? that's a good one my dear lol. We just got the spit valves being emptied at us and the occasional slide in the head.. typical stuff. Yea, well, us band geeks need to stick together. I was in both the choir and band side so I guess I'm a double geek? Just needed to add the chess club, and I would have been a total social outcast LMAO..

Band Geeks Unite! Clarinet and bass clarinet player. President of the computer club. Member fantasy role-playing club (D&D).

I'm a geek. 100% through and through....

BTW, I know ALL about mean ol' trombone players. My brother played trombone.

Love these stories though.... Can't wait to hear more!

Lol, I was first tbone.... AND the ONLY girl, for like 4 schools away. Lol. I got the blame for EVERYTHING:)

But, yuppers, I was mean.

But, I played french horn, tbone, euphonium, and tuba, alternating songs... lol, I got bored easily on one instrument... but I am deep down, a "boner". You know, there are SO many mean tbones jokes though... you woodwinds hated us:)

Oops, I hijacked the thread.

aww gil.. i don't think ritis minds.. she's probably not as dam sensitive as i am lol. Besides you're just saying fun things.. :) now ritis is gonna come back and smack me upside the head lol

but before she does, hehe.. I just wanted to say, that I'm the opposite of you Gilly.. I went through the woodwind section lol. I was clarinet in Symphonic band, Flute and pic in concert band, alto or tenor in jazz band, bari in sax quartets, and occasional oboe. The only woodwind I refused to learn was the bassoon. My teacher wanted me to, but I always felt it was the bastard woodwind instrument lol.. (sorry to any basson players out there). I just couldn't get "into" that one.. We should get together.. we'd have almost a whole band between us hehehe oh and yes.. female trombone players are a sort of rarity aren't they? or just low brass in general.. I think I saw maybe 4 come through the university the whole time I was there..

now back to the subject, I guess my fondest karaoke memory, is a bittersweet one. It's when I moved from the last town where I lived when I got out of college and a whole bunch of us got together to sing karaoke at this cool new place that had just opened in town. It was a really nice place with a big dance floor and a stage, and a bunch of big tables. You could order dinner and drinks, and there was a lot of open space. Didn't feel cramped like a little bar. We had a great night, and a really good friend of mine sang a song "I will remember you" and dedicated it to me.. I was allll crying lol. I have some of what we did that night on minidisc.. It's a good and sad memory at the same time  :)

Ah! I love hearing all your band stories! It makes me sad though, as we lived in "the middle of nowhere" and did not really have a lot of chances to play in Bands.

We had a band in grade 9, and I played the flute. Picked it up in a month (very proud of myself...big ego girl LOL)

Anywho, we did not have a lot of fun (our class kinda sucked), and we never went on trips and stuff like everyone else here seemed to get to do :)

I did learn how to play a lot of instruments though in band...trumpet, violin, mandolin, I even had to play my recorder for a week when my flute broke, and amazed my music teacher when I transposed a song LOL! (I was a TOTAL teacher's pet in band)

I am quite sure I would be in a different place right now musically if I had all the opportunities that you all seemed to have. I probably would have got into musical theatre or something like that here...maybe a choir!

My other favorite karaoke moment is the day my friend (not back then....became friends over the last year) told me about her studio!

I will never forget that day....I went to karaoke alone cause my BF was out of town...and I sang La Isla Bonita for my first song, and Complicated for my second song. After that, this really amazing singer (the host) came up to me and told me about this studio.

I nearly pissed my pants! I was floored! It was always a "life goal" of mine to get discovered, and I guess that is kinda what happened LOL!

Now, we are all good friends, and all rooting for her to succeed in her music career (she is an awesome singer)!

Anywho, babbled on enough now........on with more stories :)

actually my favorite moment on a stage goes as follows.....this is not a karaoke story but a story from my band days.....we were on tour and playin in phoenix arizona....we had come out to the bar we were playin at a night early to check it out and another band was playin....i met some of the guys in the band and they had asked if i wanted to come up and sit in...i said sure so i played a couple tunes and i told em id do one more then i had to split...the bass player asked if i knew "another coming" by judas priest and i said "yup"....(well if you knew it what would you say?) so i was turned towards the drummer when we kicked off the song and we all sounded really tight..as the verse approached i wasnt payin any attention to anything...i was just kinda lookin down as i was playin...the first verse hit and as i heard the singer start the song, i was really impressed at how good he was singin....so i finally looked up and over at him to give him the patented "you rock" look (you 80s musicians know what i mean) and to my shock our sit in singer was none other than Rob Halford, the actual lead singer of Judas Priest...let me tell you at that time bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden were the kings of rock and i was standing 3 feet away actually jamming with a living legend and a hge idol of mine...it was all i could do to hold it together but i seized the moment and played the **** out of that song...Halford looked at me several times through the tune and i could tell he thought i was a good player....i was glad i had my guitar on cause i do believe i peed my pants over the whole thing.....well it gets better ! after we finished and he came over and high fived me, i figured that was it for meeting a longtime idol...i was sittin at the bar and he came over and asked me if i wanted to sit with him and Alice Cooper..(let me explain that both of those two live in phoenix and were just hangin out together off tour) ok....not only did i just get over gracing the stage with one of my idols, i was actually invited to sit down with 2 of them....i went over and sat down literally shaking under the table, but i kept it cool and talked about anything but music...Halford was next to me and Alice was across from me...didnt think to much about anything at the time....when the guys decided to head out they invited me over to an afterhours party and to this day, i dont know why i never went...(probably a pretty girl swayed me to another after hours party)one thing i do remember is after all this happened , one of the guys in the band i sat in with asked me if Halford asked me out, and laughed...i said what do you mean? and the guy said..."hes gay dude" and i was like "noooooooooooooooo" i should have known he was gay cause when we were kissing he kept tryin to slip me the tongue...hahahaha but seriously i was shocked that he was gay (not that i have anything against gay people...some of the nicest guys i ever slept with were gay....j/k)
but it was a shock that macho rob halford wqas gay...i thought it was really cool that a person like that could fool so many people for so long...
just goes to show the worlds ignorance,,,,,but anyways thats my story and i hope you enjoyed it...so if you asked me what my favorite moment was, id have to say it was the night i almost became Mrs.Dumbdrum Halford ! but seriously he is a very very cool guy !!!

I laughed my butt off on the "slipped me the tongue" routine! heheheh

my favorite karaoke moment. I was singing the final song at my local hang out. Well, this whole table of really gorgeous women were there, and they got up to dance with several guys. I'm beltin' out some ballad (don't remember what it was), and two of the gals separated from their dancers to come hook up on either side of me.

I'm sweatin', tryin' to maintain my cool as they begin to nuzzle me slightly, and rubbin their hands all over my chest. One gal, who was so drop dead gorgeous it was intimidating to be next to her, put her right hand on my back (she's on my left side). Right when I hit a long, fairly high note, she slides her hand down my shirt and into my pants and cups my bare butt!

I probably went up three octaves and my voice screeched to a halt as I gulped. My buddy is sittin' next to me and HOWLS with laughter, as all my friends turn to look at me with a Scooby Doo kinda "URrrrrrrrrrr?" Then when they saw the look on my face, and the gal smiling SOOooo sweetly, everybody at the bar broke out laughing and started clapping.

I politely turned off the mic and walked away, to slam what was left of my beer.

I've had other things happen, but that one I truly lost it on. It is funny in an embarrassing sort of way...
