sher.. if you look at the bands when you choose that "bright and punchy" you can see that it adds a kick to the low end and notches the high end up a bit too.. That adds some punch and clarity to the file by giving it a kick to the bass of the music and a nudge to the really high end to make it sound more crisp and alive... I assume you are using it on your overall mix? that's probably a really good thing :)

I do something similar with a plugin that I have which adds a slight touch of compression and a nudge on the extreme lows and highs to give the track a big punch and make it sound more alive and gives it more volume.. gives it a kick :)

If you were referring to my post it wasn't meant as a jab at anyone... :?

Multi-tracking to 'fix' problems with a track isn't that unusual. They do it in professional studios regularly. They'll do a dozen takes and splice them together to make it 'perfect' before they send it out to master and press.

BTW, Audacity will let you record in a new track, silence the bad section, record the vocals you want and put them in place. When you're done you can mix down to stereo or mono for submission. I haven't 'fixed' any vocals with it yet, but last night I panned the music far left, and vocals far right on my mixer and recorded. I then split the tracks and set them for stereo playback so I'd hear both channels out both speakers. I could then record in new vocals so technically I could sing a duet by multitracking myself. CEP/Audition/Audacity all have lots of editting features and 'tricks' that can be lots of fun to play with. Maybe one day when I have some time and after I get a handle on using Reason.
