Sheesh.....
Guess the new song for Singer's Showcase is "It don't mean a thing if you don't get that 10".
I've expressed my opinions already... I won't go into another diatribe on the pro's, con's and otherwise of rating/commenting/etc. I've already pissed enough people off with my sarcasm....

I like Jazzy's suggestion in her original post. It doesn't fix all the inherent problems of rankings but it might be better than what we've got now.
I also agree with most of what Tigrr27 had to say, but I'd try to say it with more tact than he did. As he pointed out, it's not just the rankings, it's the fact that there are always complaints about everything. Someone didn't give me a good ranking. Somebody didn't comment. Somebody commented but didn't tell me how I could improve. I commented on theirs but they won't comment on mine. I commented on somebody's submission but they didn't respond to my comment. It gets to the point where many of us feel (at least I do) that there's nothing you can do that doesn't make somebody angry, and increasingly my reaction has just been to avoid listening. I like coming to the showcase, and I enjoy ranking and commenting, but sometimes I feel like I have to walk on eggshells to the point that it isn't fun anymore.
But I also understand that by complaining about the complaining, I'm adding to the complaining. So carry on.

Oh Hell.. I got 10's for an average... i still don't show up in the ratings.. they still are a farce... why do i care.. the point is I don't... I put a song up for ratings to show up... and that they are handed out like chocolate chip cookies & milk to kindergartners...

this is not to start up a flame war (and no I'm not picking on any certain individuals or the person who created this thread), but I will admit, that I was listenin' to some subs today that were on the top ranked (i.e. 10s, 9.9, etc.), and I couldn't believe that some of these were ranked NEARLY so high. I mean, I'm no fantastic singer. I know my own limitations as much as the next person, but I was just astounded that some of these were given such high marks.
Songs with clearly flat vocals, off key, missed timings... and they were being ranked at "perfection".
I can really see where Tigrr27 got irked enough to ramble about it. I have been sharing much of his feelings as of late.
Having a 9 is NO disgrace!!! having a 7 or 8, all of which are technically classified as Very Good and Great (or whatever they truly are, I'm blocked from the site while I'm at work), and I think that some of us SHOULD start giving out more realistic ratings. I tend to think that those of us that are friends with each other should be truer friends and not pump up people's ego THAT much.
I heard some stunning submissions today. I also heard some very good ones, some okay ones, and some flat out stinkers. The site doesn't tell you which user gave someone a 1... I just wish people would be a bit more honest, rather than QUITE so friendly.
Guess y'all will hate me now, huh?

kickin matt to the clique curb... listening to the "top ranked" sure does alot more for my argument than against my argument... reading alot of the comments and then seeing the rankings and then hearing the songs made me wonder if people are hearing the same thing i am hearing thru my speakers... amazing... does not surprise me that you (matt) and i share the same ideology on this subject ... be well my friend... -tig

Matt..
I couldn't agree more... 10's gotta be earned .. People get Real here.. I'm not an american Idol.. I posted a sub tonight that is a total example of what things happen in pro sessions..
YES! I used my NM producer and paid for time to do a session in NM and subbed the vocal warm-up track I used..
The kicker was I can't believe it was put on the master
How evil of me.. Still it's about the quality of what I would rate a 5.
If I should start rating again.. Don't scream to the admin. because there was a topic about it and you folks especially allstar asked for it..
Because I also am a peer music evaluator on broadjam.com...
And there it's the real deal.
Most folks live or die by those ratings. It's thier career there.

Tigrr,
Some of those in the top 10 actually would probably like to be rated honestly... I know 2 of them atleast would...

and that's exactly what I said when I subbed "Who Wants To live Forever". I think people were being VERY kind. There were a couple bad places in that submission, as well as my vocals just not being up where they should be vocal wise... so the mix came out all weird.
yet, I was constantly getting 10s. Partially I'm sure out of kindness, and maybe a little .Yes, it is a very difficult song to sing.
Hey, if I wanted all tens, I'd sub songs I KNOW I'm great at. I can do some KILLER Bob Seger "Turn The Page" and some great Kid Rock (although I'd be cautious about the lyrics on a family site)! But I want to stretch myself as an artist myself... like Sheraoke said... she is constantly pushing herself. So am I.
Two of the five submissions in my albulm do NOT honestly deserve the ratings that they got. I was off and I KNEW IT. I'm flattered that people are being so kind, but I asked Tig to check them out. I trust his judgement, and hopefully he does mine too. And he told me exactly what I needed to hear. I was dead on my own analysis of "November Rain"... I was awful the first twenty seconds, and then I only got marginally better. I felt it should be close to a 6-8 range AT BEST! And he agreed.
I don't take any shame, nor am I feeling particularily hard on myself. I'm NOT a terrific singer. I can sing a few good songs, though. That's just honesty folks.

I will never understand why this subject pisses people off haha so what if it gets brought up agin and agin..its a forum..new blood I like ratings..I love the ego boost...how many real singers check the top forty to see if they are on it? THey get on that list the very same way yet its acceptable cuz its the real world haha
PErsonally..I say rate me fairly and honestly. What does that mean????
Fairly-dont give me a 9 just cuz u dont want to see me with a ten..give me a nine or below when i deserve it and then be a grown up and tell me WHY you gave me the score and What I can do to earn a 10 in your opinion. Honestly means..no matter what you think of me personally ..be honest with yourself and with me about how you felt I did.
now..whats so hard bout that?
People like different things. WIllie Nelson has hits and he singes thru his nose in a very annoying tone.. but we still LOVE HIM! (dont every one start singin thru their nose for tens please..it really can be annoyin)
WHen you care bout someone, it is human nature to prefer anything they do over anothers..sorry..no one has been able to change human nature in the last kazillion years im seriously doubtin us little singersshowcase people will manage to do it either. Once i said that on a thread in another forum hahahahahaha lightyears ago and boy did i get crow shoved down my throat.
just have fun..listen to subs...pay attention to PITCH TIMING EMOTION MIX AND ORIGINALITY ..if it has them all give that person a 10..if it dont..give them what u think they deserve..and be nice about it. Dont wimp out though..tell them WHY and how u think they might can fix it.
HUGS...LOVES YALLL
KATHY
P.S. ON MIX..THIS IS A VENU WHERE IT TAKES A MIX TO SUB A SONG..SO WHY NOT WORK TO MAKE IT THE BEST YOU CAN GIVEN WHATEVER EQUIPMENT YOU HAVE????ASK QUESTIONS..FIND THE BEST WAY TO DO IT WITH UR KNOWLEDGE AND SETUP...I LEARN SOMETHIN NEW EVERYDAY AND I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IT!!!!
if you wanna hear the difference in my mixin before..and now.. go to this link .. i dont sing much differently but their is a BIGGGGG difference in the sound.
