Question for KJ's: Do you guys regularly sing at your own shows? The guy that first got me into karaoke used to always say "they aren't paying to hear you sing". I have found, early in the night, I always start the show, then if people are slow to sing I will keep myself in the rotation. I then take myself out once I get more than 4 or 5 singers. What about the singers out there? How do you feel about the KJ singing all night?

I will keep myself in rotation if the rotation is small, but after it hits around 8 people or more, yeah, I pull myself out!

That extra song will help at least ONE person stay in rotation!

Yeah....I always feel like I am going to kill their voices if I don't break it up! I have been to plenty of others shows, and they keep themselves in all night. One show, the guy was training a girl to work for his multirig outfit, and they BOTH sang all night. Had to be 18 or so singers in rotation. Drove me nuts!

I generally don't sing at my shows. Once in a while maybe, but only if it's very slow for a prolonged period.

I don't mind when the karaoke host sings....as long as it is not more than the customers LOL!

If they sing at the beginning of the rotation, I don't see why not....that way, at least you know where it starts and ends....and can kinda figure when you are going to sing next.

Plus, some KJ's sing really well, and I like to hear them when they sing. :)

Now, if there are like 30 singers..well, then that is up to your judgement.

I generally don't sing at my shows. I will open & do an occasional request but if I am singing that is knocking someone out of their turn. If it's like Knight says, only a few people I may sing every other round.

I agree that they didn't come just to hear me sing. However, most of the venues I play are a little slow to start and I'm the only one singing for a short period of time - mainly because there's not really anyone there. I will usually include myself until the rotation starts to fill up (3-4 people is enough if they keep putting in multiple slips). Most of the shows I have are 6 hours long and I will usually sing 3-4 times througout the night (usually about every 1 1/2 hours or so). About half the time it's a duet or a request. If the rotation is more than 30-45 minutes I won't sing at all unless I'm requested for a duet.

I'll sing as part of the regular rotation if its a slow night. If its packed then Ill only sing a dance song like Brickhouse to start a dance set.
