our books are filling a 4 inch d-ring now and we are having to reduce print size...artist and song are already separated( yes we do use page protectors) 2 columns per page over 200 pages

Don't get the wrong idea.... I'm not condemning the idea at all.... I think it's kind of cool actually (wished they had wifi). All I know is from my experience (and it may be different in AZ) things here sprout legs.... Years ago, I had to retrieve songbooks from the parking when someone decided they take one home "to study it." I have chased down wireless mics that have wandered away as well.... Neither situation was fun.. And then you have the "beer spillers"..... a whole new animal. Those would have worked great at a gig I had years ago where it was a much older crowd who actually respected someone else's property...

Was when I allowed people to roam the floor with it, walked right out the door & nobody saw it or noticed it until the singing started getting kind of wierd & the signal loss started. Too late by that point. But I agree, it's cheap enough to take a chance.

I know of a host that uses the e-readers and they work well. People check them out and leave a drivers licences and CC and are responsible for damage or them walking(simple contract signed when they check them out)...he still uses slips and also has books on a smart phone service as well....works well for him....only had to charge for 2 in over 2 years

Yeah, I've never lost a book either, but people say they walk from time to time. That is a good fraction of a $40.00 bill... Lonman wrote: Well it's going to be a test anyway. If they are cheap enough, not going to worry about it. These are still a little more than i'd like to spend to replace the majority of the books, but it is closer to the ballpark for a 1 or 2 test.
If you have some paper ones that have a lot of stuff, and use the readers for the latest and greatest, then it makes even more sense to test with one or two. Then if it works out, you ditch the dead trees the next year....

our books cost right around $75 each (we do 8 by title and 2 by artist for each system) and a couple of them disappear every printing ...we may try some readers as a test with one of our systems this next printing and see how it goes Athena

It sounds very interesting and might be useful, but since I'm always trying to simplify, if I had 5 of these things.... that would be 5 more devices I'd need to make sure were always charged up for use, 5 more charging plugs.....
But it is intriguing...

I envision a charging station where every e-reader is plugged in when not in use...and the Drivers licences and CC's would be in the slot when they were checked out....sort of a powered file sorter type thing....now to draw it out and see if I can build it. Since we have plugs in our secured storage using a very good quality power strip and plugging them in between shows should keep them powered well....battery life will remain to be seen in the long run. We also will have all 3 systems differentiated by color on one of the smart phone sites as a service for our customers as well as on our soon to be launched website

I just picked one of these up from Compuvest.com, $39.79 with free shipping. I don't know what I am going to do with it besides borrow non-Kindle e-books from the library, but we will see....

But it is intriguing... I'd probably build a charging rack with all the chargers already setup with one main plug. I ordered one to play with.

I agree, if singers are educated they will know the prefix of a song number or if they list the SC,DK, MM, etc at the end of a song. I get several singers asking for specific brands nightly. I still have old school singers asking if I have it on Pioneer, that's the version they want over anything else.
