Miss Milo wrote: where are these cliques and how do i join? Or maybe I'm already in one and don't know about it
Hey MM.. I finally looked up 'clique' in the dictionary this morning (you knew I would didn't ya?)... since this word keeps popping up...
clique: (eh em glasses) 1.a small exclusive group of people 2. Informal. to form or associate in a clique. 3. tending to divide into cliques: a cliquish neighborhood, 4. associating exclusively with the members of one's own clique; clannish
Hmmm.. (still dizzy from the glasses)... funny how when we think of cliques we never think 'we' are a part of it! But to other's looking at us they might feel that way! I know I have some close friends that I talk to on a regular basis.. but it is not a group... it consists of two people... oh... just added Connie to my list this morning and lucky Tim is now a member too hehe! If you feel excluded by me just let me say everybody is welcome to PM or talk to me at any time.... I too have felt excluded at times when a list of names are mentioned and mine is never on it... nor did I expect it to be. That would be my fault because I tend to keep to myself much of the time as far as private PM's and convo's go.... too many times in the past where I felt manipulated and told who to like and not like... got too much! I got burned out and turned my messenger off for quite some time... so I am slowly starting to put names back on it after a little vacation from all of that! Sorry if you have felt I excluded you if you were previously on my buddy list... it was not anything personal! TRULY!!! So MM... I say let's you and I start a clique and anybody who wants to join it... let me know and you are 'in'!!!! Anybody? The first meeting will be at 4:00 today... let's synchronize our watches... it's now 10:32:19 no :24 no :29 damn can't type fast enough to keep up with the watch! (Gotta give Timmer credit for that line! )

Finally - A non-sarcastic response:
This is a quote from a book I bought recently:
"What has always struck me about singing is the fact that it is so personal, and that there is not one degree of seperation between singer and the instrument. Learning to sing places one in a vulnerable position..."
Because singing is so personal people tend to take any critisism the same way - personally. I don't have any problems handling critisism and appreciate the feedback. The problem is that not everyone handle critique the same way. Some are offended that they got a 9 while others wonder why they got a 10. Unless only one person is doing all the reviews it's not going to be a fair assessment across the board. And unless that person is trained to critique the results will still be tainted.
We can all agree to disagree or whatever... but there is no 'easy' solution to the issue that keeps coming up. Going to a smaller scale w/ half steps may help - it might be worse than before. Either way people will still ask to be ranked, and people will still rank them. I'll be honest, I've only given out 10's. Why? Because in all the songs I've heard only 1 got them - the rest I didn't rank, but commented (BTW, that was Out of the West by Emma). As I've said before, I generally don't rank submissions unless I'm completely and totally blown away by the overall performance. I give everyone the opportunity to rank my submissions but I almost never pay attention to the ranking - I read the comments and try to see if there are any recommendations for improvement.
Yes, I'm pretty darn sarcastic sometimes and I hope I didn't offend anyone.
Why would a guy play clarinet? When you're the only guy in a group of 35 girls or so your chances just went up.... (yes, we had over 30 ppl playing clarinet in my high school band - we had over 400 people in the band that actually marched onto the field). Besides when I got ready to start playing an instrument I was listening to Benny Goodman and Pete Fountain a lot - I was 'around' 9 years old. Seemed a natural choice...

Yes, sweetie I KNEW you would! And I'm glad you did, 'cos I gotta tell ya these new glasses are crap! I kept reading what a cliche' was and couldn't understand what the bleep all the fuss was about.
OK, 4:00 it is! Now is that 4:00 your time or 4:00 my time? 'Cos if it's your time then I still have plenty of time, but if it's 4:00 my time then I'll probably be late and miss out on the election of president. Ummm...what to wear, what to wear? Will there be food?!
Seriously, I know I'm probably super naive here but I can't see where there are any cliche's ... er...cliques here. Do I have some friends I'm closer to than others? Sure, we all do. There's not a thing wrong with that. But if that makes me being a part of a ... clique, then so be it.

as far as the cliques go, I think we're all in one big one!
I see some that are friendlier with each other than some other groups of people are, but nothing else.
Course, I'm really not looking for more.

HOW about this:
WOW that was GREAT!
WOW! that was EXCEPTIONALLY GREAT!
Great idea Tig.....kudos to your child...this is the same thing even simpler.. ...
Every one's submissions would be at least GREAT....and some EXCEPTIONALLY GREAT...., I think everyone who is doing the BEST they can should be able to feel comfortable and happy coming here and experience will only make us improve and aim for some EXCEPTIONALLY GREAT submissions...
That along with comments is super simple and private messages buttons should always be available for suggestions for improving your recordings...Tho I still believe folks will ask for help and I encourage any who want it to ask, cuz I am frequently and getting it...
This is a very friendly place, I think....If you are new here and not getting heard enough then please visit others subs and leave comments because that is a good lead for us to find your subs, too...There are so many new folks here ( and I am very glad you are here ) it takes a long time to go through every song and I think many here listen to the ones that listen to theirs second...after their favorites...so that would be a good way for us to get to know each other better...and pass the listening around...
I don't think groups of people who become friends are cliques ....I am open to disussion with anyone here on a friendly basis .... I don't think one can have too many friends...ever...and I am open to making new friends always...
Take care ya'll and again, I am happy to be here with ALL of you....
