karaoke meister- one time at clarinet camp... yeah I played it too long long ago (was the only instrument not bigger than me at the time )...

Ive got to say... When I comment on someones sub...the words I say..truely reflect how I felt about the song that they have just shared with me.I am going to be nice and kind,because I enjoyed it,,and they deserve it.If I enjoy it...you will only get kind words from me.I will NOT pick anyones song apart.If its something I simply did not enjoy,I move on.
I will contine to be kind in my comments.If I enjoyed it...you will know.I do not come here for the purpose of judging people.If I had to..I would not be on this site at all.

I come here simply for the joy of hearing others sing.And I do truley enjoy it.Just because I am nice and kind..does not put me in a catagory that is for certain.

I really want to continue enjoying the gift of song everyone is sharing here
and thats what it is...giving.

we seem to keep getting back to the "T" word, demanding the truth, the truth, the truth, dammit!!! well, so what? the truth is that i'm a 53 year old guy who hadn't sung or made music in front of anyone for about 30 years until 2 years ago, and i would get laughed out of any audition i was ever silly enough to go to. ok? everybody happy now? now the rest of the truth is that a few people seem to enjoy whatever nonsense i post on the front page of subs and i enjoy the hell out of what many others post here too. so whatever praise i give or receive here is all in fun. the truth is that we ain't making a living on this site--it's RECREATION. and if the truth demands that i trash someone for posting something i don't like, then i think that a few social skills are probably a little more important to me than the truth. i've got real life to deal with when i'm not here just like everybody else and there's all kinds of truth that we all have to face out there. we come here for fun. let's lighten up, guys.

My truth is: I am not a star and I know I am not a major musical breakthrough, but I sure like to sing....If ya'll get lucky and I get enough help someday I may learn to mix.....

Even then, karaoke is for FUN....long live fun!!! and long live NICE folks!

Why is it that when someone offers an opinion that differs from the norm that it is considered a "flame"

The suggestion made by JazzyBaggs was a good one, but the comments made by Tigrr27 are valid as well. I don't think it was meant to be negative. He was just making a point that the rating system doesn't really matter. It's just another way of expressing an opinon without the pressure of backing it up. No matter what system you use people will be disappointed. Some will be offended.

This is, and always has been a topic of debate.... and it should be. Debating and fighting are two different things. Debate is a productive way of voicing our opinions. Fighting is non-productive and has no place in a civilized discussion. I hope we can continue to debate and disagree on the things that matter to us. (and still be friends) That's how things get changed. That's how we learn about each other.

IMHO Rating systems are never fair and never will be. Life isn't fair and never will be. Some are blessed with natural talent and some of us just love to sing regardless of our talent. I hope everyone can learn to just sing from their heart and not worry about how they will be rated or ranked.

Either you take it seriously or you don't. It's all up to you!!!!!

And Phil! I caught what ya said about me. I STILL find it interesting that you haven't subbed' a song... I told you how to use audacity (which is free) to do your recording. Brian has said he'd send ya a microphone!...

now for something completely different - the truth! That's right, I'm going to be truthful about all of this:

I haven't been participating with the Singer's Showcase for a while now. I've occassionally gone on looking for a few submitter's stuff, and have occassionally looked at what's being subbed. When I've felt like it, I've listened. When I thought I had something to add, I did. If you didn't see my post, either I didn't see it, or I was being polite by not saying anything. I used to offer some pointers, but it seems as of late that honesty is not what people want to see and hear.

Do I believe that there are some submissions that are worth a 10? You bet. I even think that there should be an "exceptional" button for those that surpass the "perfection of a ten".

Let me guess, I missed the clique meeting again didn't I?

Yeah I want a "New Years" Party Hat... The Horn to toot... and the new years baby diaper to wear, a bottle to guzzle to get plastered so I can go on stage and entertain the masses with... without having to be near anyone who takes karaoke ranking as serious as a competition is supposed to be.


Now competiting in 2 shows nightly in vegas starting next week at the small bar... NOT!

Anyway, I think some of our beloved members are misinterpreting some of the other members Sarcasim as mean spirited Flaming. Some times the written word doesn't portray the same - it is missing the amount of emphasis that voice and facial expressions ad.

Well, since this thread has already been hijacked, I might as well join in the fray....where are these cliques and how do i join? Or maybe I'm already in one and don't know about it....if no one commented on any of the songs would everyone still submit one?...if you submitted a song and no one listened would you still be making a beautiful sound or noise?

Jazzy, you are a true sweetheart and I have read carefully and understand everything you've been trying to say. Are you in a clique? Can I be in it?!! You are the best girl and I haven't forgotten the picture thingy, just really been super busy!

Thanks so much Phil for the time and effort to fulfil Billy's recommendation for marks that someone new has left a comment on an older or any submission...That is way cool and most helpful....

I appreciate all you do....Working for free ain't alot of fun, I personally think you should get paid...That's alot of responsibility....
