I have bought a few disks (I'm very new to this) and have waited an ETERNITY for them to ship!!! I'll admit, I'm not very patient, but wondered if any of you out there had recommendations for:

1. Companies to purchase from that are reputable and QUICK!

2. Which manufacturers are better than others?

Thanks for your help!

On the SGB, man you must've had luck with them, I personally can't stand them. Sound Choice, Pop Hits Monthly, Chartbuster (Country only) are the main choices for me.

Given the discs that I have SoundChoice is by far the best I've seen in overall quality.

I also use KaraokeBay's discs which I get locally at Fred Meyer or Wal-Mart. They aren't available online as far as I know.

The Legends disc I have seems pretty good. I bought one before I buy more to review and get a good idea of the quality.

The NuTech disc seems ok, but I'm holding my final decision until I get a chance to play it again.

My SGB set is ok. In a club most of the set is acceptable. Many of the complaints I have either deal with a track that is completely unusable (most of the Weird Al disc - #23) or low levels of musicians counting off and mic noise that you won't hear in a noisy club. I only consider these if you're looking for 'bang for the buck'.

The Singing Machine's Original Artist Motown stuff seems pretty good. The MTV stuff is marginal but my beef is with the versions put on the disc moreso than the actual quality.

I've heard good things about Top Hits Monthly, Priddis, and a few others.

As for people who ship and are quick? The aforementioned vendor is known to ship quickly but will likely be axed shortly. You can also check the sponsors - karaoke.com and acekaraoke.com to see if they offer discs (I don't know). Most of the manufacturers seem to ship pretty quickly - Soundchoice seem pretty good about shipping pretty quickly from what I've seem so far. I got my 3 try player, Fooundations 1 & 2, SGB 1-66 and a number of other discs off eBay.

I'll agree with lonman on the brands, however a sponsor here that ships quick is karaoke.com. Now I live very close to them however when I place an order I usually have it within 2 days sometimes the very next day.

My favorite website is dbkaraoke. Great search feature, every entry is a hyperlink that leads to all the discs with that song title on it or all discs with a certain artist on it. Good prices, frequent sales, ship via priority mail which usually goes out the next day.

IMO you can't go wrong with Soundchoice or Sunfly. I have a couple of Priddis discs that I'm really happy with. Top Hits Monthly is good, Zoom is good, Top Tunes is good. I have one NuTech disc which sucks. In most cases price seems to be a direct reflection of quality, at least in my experience.

I would recommend www.acekaraoke.com !
I have bought alot from them and I have always had good luck with them
Brands to buy...well look thru some old threads about this on the website..but to give you some quick recommendations:
The 3 big ones are: Sound Choice, Priddis and Chartbuster - These are the best..and then..

Pop Hits Monthly
Top Tunes
Pocketsongs
Just Tracks(manufacturered by pocketsongs)
Star Disc - Newer stuff only
Karaokebay - hit and miss, sometimes good
Zoom - Pretty decent
SAV - Hit and miss..sometimes good
Pioneer CDG

Stay away from Sweet georgia brown, Sunfly, Backstage, Legends, singingstation, MTV, Ameri-sing, Monster Hits/Tracks unless you cant find the songs in SC,CB or Priddis, etc.

You classified SAV (which is Nikkodo/NuTech BTW) higher than Legends? Interesting. The rest I pretty much agree with for the most part.

The only issue I have with Chartbuster is the graphics change from white to a light yellow on some of the discs. The music and timing is usually pretty good but on some tv's you can't see the words change. The sweeps (changing of color) isn't always smooth either - especially on fast songs (like Baby Got Back). It's for this reason I havn't bought more of their discs... they are ususally priced pretty inexpensively though.

Chartbuster isn't very good on their pop stuff. Country is their forte.

I love Pioneer for a good core set (but argueably, it's horriific to find anymore. I'm still lookin' for about six cdgs and eight lasers), as well as Sound Choice.

Pop Hits Monthly is the best monthly producer out there. I've expressed my reservations about Top Hits Monthly and Top Tunes before... I'll only get THM if the song isn't available (such as "It's My Life" by No Doubt, although I think SC has it covered finally.) and I think that the producer of the cdg is on the up and up.

Sing To The World is terrific for a core as well, but they are a European brand, and there are some songs that are on their releases that are a bit strange. I bet they think the same of us! LOL! Zoom, Legends/Sunfly are good now.

For country, I suppose CB is okay. I only own a couple. Most of the stuff that CB did, SC did as well... so I was happy with that!

If you're using a rf modulator, I've had problems where the frequency was on the wrong setting. If you have a switch on the modulator, try that. You might be surprised at the color setting!

I used to have that complaint on music Maestro and cb stuff until I corected that setting!

Great information. After getting "burned" by one on-line karaoke vendor, who doesn't advertise here, but shall remain unnamed, I will gladly take your advice. Thanks for the tips on manufacturers, I have really noticed a difference in songs in clubs, key is different, background sounds, tempo, sometimes entire verses are missing! I suppose that's old hat to all of you, but I expected them to be, well a bit more uniform!

If you like 80s pop music, try Sunfly... they're the best (IMO) for that kind of stuff... I also like Zoom, SC and EZH, depending on what style of music I'm after...

Atomic, I have to agree with you, and there's a reason for that as well! You, being from the UK have a taste in European music (as I do).
Unfortunately, the big names mentioned here, like SC, CB etc. are US made, born and raised. They do not really cater for the Non-US market, therefore they have no real interest in the popular European stuff! They offer me the music I like to sing. Of course, I do have the other brands as well, to cater for the local clients, but when I buy for myself....I love the Sunfly, Zoom and Pioneer disks!

No matter where you buy discs you will always be given options for faster shipping,

The faster the shipping, The higher the price. Have patience and save a few bucks.

Unless you live in Alaska.... Even though a majority of us here live and deal with 'Alaska Time'* on a regular basis and have learned a great deal of patience, we rarely get an opportunity to experience it with regards to shipping. They babble something about taking too long, not offering ground service or some such nonsense. We usually only have 2-day and next-day as our options on shipping. Wish I could wait and get it cheaper - or just once they didn't put the 'Free shipping on all orders over $150 unless you're in Hawaii or Alaska in which case we'll charge you 10 times what we'd charge anyone else for normal shipping' or the ever hated 'We don't ship to Alaska/Hawaii' that we deal with. It's for this reason (among others) I tend to buy my stuff locally when ever possible...

* - 'Alaska time' is the experience of sitting in the Anchorage airport waiting for the fog to lift in Kodiak so the plane can leave for an 'indeterminate' amount of time.
