As far as KJs today talking about the weight of CDGs Most would have craped themselves with what we used to carry to do a show, each laser disc weighs 1 pound a fifty disc flip box weighted 28 pounds empty, I built two of the 50 disc flip cases into a single tower carpeted box and the total weight of that was 248 pounds, add in the weight of three LD players, the "mixers, amps, TVs and speakers of the day" and you had a rig that was close to 1000 pounds. Now I can do the same thing with a rig that weighs less than the Laser disc with 2600 songs.

Big Mike

I have them, but then you wouldn't appreciated the time & effort it takes to convert them. Just get a video capture card & software & take the time. A couple discs a day.

While not many you will find that there are several songs that are not done by any other manufacturer and a couple that were only done correctly on the Pioneer Lasers (they even screwed the same songs up when they put them on CDG)

The Videos are a lot of fun though and the patrons "used to love to watch them.

I just think that given a choice between just words and the LD videos, the videos are a better choice.

Depends. Alot of people do NOT like the videos that only started with CDG. I have many songs only on Pioneer as the choice & some do complain about that. I personally like them, gives something to watch when needed.

yes thunder Karma will play the converted LD's but it requires many steps...same with PCDJ....The only hoster that will play them and converted cdg's with not having to jump thr hoops is MTU hoster...gonna borrow a copy of Compuhost and see if I can make them work at all...would solve our problem with putting our 3rd sytem togeather with GEM series LD's and mediaproHD(if I can make it work them will buy 3 copies and then start buying the sets. Our patrons love the videos....Mama he's crazy is one of my favs. We own 3 sets now

CH don't play them as a regular setting, you have to continually change out the video buttons. Plus I do not believe it will log the songs into the songbook like Hoster does either.

That would be 7-B-01. This has been talked about since 89. Still fun to point it out to newbies.

fail

The capture card was a USB el cheapo model. The sound and video were choppy and jerky. Need a much better capure card for this.

I've done a few hundred songs so far. The Dazzle DVD recorder does a GREAT job. I am using 2 old Toshiba Satellites with Windows XP Media Center. The videos and sound have thus far been flawless.

As I mentioned, I bought two Dazzles to get through this project. Worth it!

Bidding on one now.

Did you get the USB dazzle or the one with the card and external unit?

Pioneer are great tracks. When I was hosting back in the Eighties that was what the venue owned. I started building a Laser library about four years ago off of ebay and I think I'm only missing about 10 for the complete set of Pioneer songs. I have converted just over 400 hundred tracks to date, (it's my winter project) into AVI. Someone had posted that you need the right codex, which is correct. I had to update mine before using them with CH. They are awesome and a lot of my singers can't wait until I get them all done. I do one song at a time using ADS DVDXpress. It allows me to name each track and stores them in alphabetical order on my hard drive. One song at a time in real time, I usually edit my song book while i'm doing it. Great buy by the way!

USB. And there is an HD model of the Dazzle. Don't waste your money. I paid $49.99 each at Best Buy.

I've decided to re-rip all my LD's using the Dazzle to improve the quality as some of mine are a bit hazy and I need to rip the with vocals anyways...cant believe I'm gonna start over after the hassles I've had {{{{{Cry}}}}}

BillySally thanks for letting me know CH has a codex to play the converted files...will give it a try on another KJ's system who runs CH and if it works fine will have to convince DH that we need to switch hosters...LOL another costly upgrade

Is anyone actively involved in the Pioneer conversion project? I would really like to join forces with someone to get it done in half the time and save us so much of the hassle.

This is a lot of work!

PM me if interested. Thanks

You can't just load up all your lasers to CH easily like you can in Hoster (plus no way to print a combined book or easily search). You need to assign video buttons from what I have been told and have experieced via the demos & only can add so many so if you need to change a song, you have to reassign the button the new video.
Otherwise yes CH does play video files - just not easily IMO.

I think I am going to get CH before the Fall rush hits. I am adding a new library and most of the songs I have are at least 5 years old. Instead of buying each year, Pop AND Country, I am just going to go with CH & CB's MediaPro. It will definitely be cheaper in the long run!

Not really anything to do with Pioneer laserdiscs/videos, but ok. :?:
