Is it just me or does it seam that the "new" karaoke releases lack that Let's-have-fun-and-party up-beat tempo or pace? I've been completely um-impressed with the latest releases from Pop Hits Monthly. It seams as tho the great majority of the music is just the slow, dull & rather boring songs that are currently on the radio. I miss the "Rock" discs that both TH (now out of business) & PH. There are a lot of great newer rock genre songs out there so why they won't produce them is beyond me. Yes, I'm fully aware of what they have to go thru for licencing etc, I've been in the DJ/Karaoke business for almost 16yrs, but from my experience, a bar/club full of 25-40 yr old people that want to sing, dance, drink & party don't really care to listen to someone sing Justin Bieber. CB & PH keep a very close pace with each other & I've found that the 1 song that I need would be on the other version & the rest of the songs on the disc(s) will all be duplicates. So what to do...... I've started to get some of the newer Sunfly discs, Very good versions of most of the songs, but I have to order them & they are almost twice what PH or CB are. Any input, suggenstions, comments, rants etc would be appreciated. - Jay

Jay, I've noticed it slowed down with country songs too. Which are generally slower than the pop songs anyway. Personally I love the slower songs but always try and do upbeat songs to keep the place happening. Slower songs I'll do more at the beginning of shows or slow nights. But yes. I think your right from what I see.

Depends on what you might consider slower songs. I subscribe to the Chartbuster monthlies & much to my surprise (over previous experience on 'current' songs) many of the songs are actually being done regularly. So I do not see any too slow or boring songs.

I have noticed an interesting trend this way in general. It used to be that songs became popular for karaoke after a few years on the radio becoming classics that everyone knows- kind of a longer lag-time between a song coming out and becoming popular for karaoke. Now I have to keep bring in tracks within a month or two of release if I can find them. I don't know what, if anything, this might have to do with song speed or "party" feeling, just noticing the trend...

Lots of newer music, actually get a lot of requests for Glee versions. But I really haven't noticed overall a 'slowness' of songs in the newer releases, most are pretty upbeat at least the ones that are getting sung. Over the years I do notice little trends where certain new discs may contain more of the popular ballads to mid tempo songs, but this has been going on since the advent of tapes.

Nope not too slow.
People continually sing very new songs anymore. Many of our nightly songs are still on the current Billboard Charts or even just breaking on the radio.
I use Karaoke Version and SBI for most of my new music, it's out much faster than any other manufacture.

Bazza wrote: I am confused as to the difference between "No" and "Not Really". "No" is definitive. A complete negative. As in " Would you like to sleep with me?" No. This means it ain't happenin', forget about it, no chance. "Not Really" is only around 98% negative. Could be a shot at a later date with enough booze and dim light. Wouldn't bet on it, but stuff happens ...

I look at it from the perspective that a good show is one where people sing what they want to sing. If I want to have a happening dance party I can make that happen not with karaoke but by DJing, but when I run karaoke I do karaoke because that is what the patrons are coming for.
Generally my shows have always been about a 50/50 mix between slow and fast songs.
Generally the new music that is released on Karaoke is a direct reflection of what is available from the music industry. So you really have to blame it on the artist and record labels for not writing and playing (making popular) the music you want to hear. Again, I simply run my shows by what the people there want to sing.

ha ha ha ha ha Damn, I never thought of that! Do I have permission to use that one? I used to close a show "occasionally" with "Aquarius" with everyone singing, (the 5th Dimension Version not the sucky "Hair movie" version), right now i close with a rousing (eveyone singing) Cee lo Green - FK You, or Spose - I'm Awesome.

This is the type of show I like, where there is a good mixture of songs. Smorgasborg karaoke. I tend not to like shows that try and artificially inflate the energy level.
