So, I received an email today from the producer of Kjams, which I love, that there was a new patch to download with some very exciting changes. I will just post this here from the Chartbuster site. "Chartbuster Karaoke, the largest producer of licensed interactive music in the western hemisphere, has launched their integration with kJams, a premier professional karaoke software jukebox. The integration will include both streaming and digital downloads from the Chartbuster Karaoke library for kJams users, directly from the program. “We continue to seek out innovative ways of delivering our content to the modern user,” said Chartbuster Karaoke CEO Norbert Stovall. “Our strategic partnership with kJams is a key part of that strategy, and helps assure that computer users on the Mac platform can gain quick and easy access to that content.” Read More Chartbuster Karaoke to enhance new release discs, introduces karaoke singles Big Mama Digital Entertainment, Inc., parent company of Chartbuster Karaoke, the leading label in the karaoke industry, has announced they will offer an enhanced format on each of their newly-released discs, beginning in June of 2011. “Customer expectations and desires are changing,” said Norbert Stovall, CEO of the Seymour, TN-based company, “and our industry must change with it. This exciting upgrade to our new releases will empower our customers like never before.” Needless to say, I am excited ***I should also add this bit of info (for one month its $20.00)*** This pass is great for the KJ and or DJ! It gives you one month of full access to the entire Charbtuster Karoake Library with the right of commercial use. This requires high speed broadband internet access. It is a monthly recurring charge to your credit card. If you wish to cancel you must do so before the next month is charged to yoour card. This pass can ONLY be used in "kJams Pro" version by a KJ or DJ and is not for use by venues (see venue use pass).

I find it funny that NOW the manus are going for something like this. Toquer had this very same idea YEARS ago, and presented it to them, but the manus all turned him down, preferring instead to keep going with only discs. That's what autokdj was going to be about - allowing kjs to download instantlly the songs they needed through the KJ application. But they all poo-pooed the idea. And NOW they see the light.

progress is great, but i do agree with you, this was a quick change in attitude that could have happened long ago. Toqer, have you tried contacting the manus again lately to remind them and try to get it going with them, again?

Yup. Earlier this week told Norbert to fly out (today) and if he wasn't completely sold by what he saw, I'd give him our DK set with accompanying 1994 reciept for $4,995 dollars. I'm hoping he takes that gamble to come out Right now we have tricera, and if the others don't come around, that's fine. At some point this is going to be a huge, private swimming pool, no poo poo allowed. People like Sunfly/SbI/etc tracks. They have no issues with them at all.

well considering the announcement about kjams in a different thread, I would think chartbuster at least would be more receptive to the idea. If there tracks wound up on Tricerasoft i would buy even more tracks from them. Now if soundchoice got on board i would be in seventh heaven.
Now that i understand that the licensing comes directly from the publishers, I will be buying more tracks from tricerasoft.

Kjams also uses Tricera, karaoke locker and now Chartbuster. It's a win win for us that use this system. I am loving that Chartbuster has come aboard and offers the songs in the manner they do. Streaming them as we need them. Kinda makes me want to shoot myself in the leg after I purchased over 8500 songs on CDG . But progress is progress and I welcome it with open arms!

My only issues with karaoke locker and select-a-track is I've sent them emails asking to interface their stores, and have yet gotten any response.
I have a lot of respect for Dave (is that right?) of Kjams. One of the few developers i've been able to knock ideas off of.
Between Kjams/tricera/ourselves we've had a fairly open channel of communications with each other, each directly benefiting and learning from one another.
I think if the karaoke companies really wanted to open it up, they'd get everyone together at the table to set an open standard for allowing software to interface online stores. When they do that, they'll understand it finally. Things are such a mishmash that everyone just drags their feet(and as said earlier, non-responsive, feels like my emails go into a black hole)

Which is smarter? Just sticking to making/selling karaoke, while people all over the world create software FOR FREE that helps you sell it, or trying to compete with them and keeping it a closed loop while you blow your money into an industry (software) that you(the karaoke manu) knows nothing about? -me

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19738We knew it was on its way. $20 per month... Tell me that is aimed at KJ's without laughing. Wonder what the value of my disk collection is now? Think all the pirates that stopped are about to start back up. Wow. Way to go Chartbuster. Think our wages are not going to improve much.

Not sure where you are seeing this is actually in effect. That thread was a hypothetical question.

jerry12x wrote: This thread. Opening post mate. Right and also stated that it was a hypothetical product in question. Meaning IF they implemented it, would any kj's use it. They wanted to get kj feedback to see if their was any interest to go on with the development.

It's only available on MAC via K-Jams, not PC. This would greatly limit the users since I would bet the high majority are PC users.

Could be the MAC alternative to the PC hard drive through Compuhost. Looks like it's a subscription for that system - so the host doesn't actually get the song, while the CH set up allows the host to pick what's needed now - while keeping it as well which would be my preference over streaming. And like many stated over in that thread, internet reliability would always be a concern. I know I would hate to rely on it.

I've been in contract with Charbuster and Dave from Kjams, there are still some bugs to work out. Yes, the majority of the songs would have to be streamed. Only a couple thousand can actually be purchased at this time do to what the publishers allow to be downloaded legally. The streaming does work well, but you absolutely need a good internet connection. I too am not crazy about the amount of $ I have put forth in my collection of close to 9000 songs. Like you it has cost me a fortune (part of being in the business), however, if there is going to be a change like this coming along I want to be part of it on the ground floor rather than not. It definitely seems its a different program than Compuhost, although along the same way of thinking.
They are trying to give us ways to deliver our customers the most music, still be legal and do it with a quality product. I for one am glad that SOMETHING is being done to move forward. Let's face it, there will always be pirates, others doing it dirt cheap or loading up from youtube or w/e. Working with these companies to move forward and keep us in the loop is smart business IMHO.
Here is a quote from Charbuster on some of the issues we have been discussing:
To answer a few questions; regarding digital downloads our library is limited by publishers as to what we can legally sell as downloads and we adhere to that very strictly. There are currently 2400 plus tracks available for downloading from our library of over 12,000 tracks, so you will not find everything immediately available. We continue to work with the publishers to give you more ease of access to our content. For streaming, all of our library is available to you (except of the free tier which we have limited to 50 songs that rotate every month, this is to give you a sampling).
Streaming of content is new technology we have been working hard onto to deliver to karaoke enthusiasts and as such may have some issues. We have tried to work out all the bugs before launch, but it seems we have missed a few.
