I just picked up 275 Pioneer laser disks off Craigslist for $150. I did a quick estimate of the number of songs and I'd say I have just over 2,000.
I always liked Pioneer, but I never used any as a KJ. How do you guys like Pioneer? I was thinking that I was going to convert them to .wmv files. This is going to be a very long and painstaking process, but I like the idea of offering the videos. Before I do start this major task, I just wanted to see how you guys felt about the Pioneer library.
Thanks
(P.S. If you are wondering how I am going to convert them, I will be plugging the composite wires into my Dazzle DVD Recorder, which records anything you plug into it. It does a great job. So, one song at a time. Should take me 200 hours at least)

I prefer the Pioneer music over most personally and still use the laserdiscs after 20 years. I will take approx 1 hour per side to convert to computer files, I ripped them directly to my computer using a video capture card to the file I needed.

Did you rip them one track at a time? Or did you like do the entire side and then go back and edit into individual tracks?

I've always liked Pioneer. I think they made a quality product.

When I became a KJ.....the (first time) in 1991, You had a choice of Pioneer or DK. That was it. At the time DK had fewer songs than Pioneer, so I opted for the Pioneer Laser Discs. With the exception of a few "clunkers", I really loved Pioneer, and continued to use them until the CD+G format just erupted.
I miss Pioneer karaoke products, and wish they were still being manufactured. Their karaoke mixers were great , and had the best sounding reverb/delay for karaoke ever!
With today's technology, if I had the opportunity to snag up some Pioneer Laser Discs, I'd do it in a hot second!

I Love Pioneer. I've been a hosting over a decade, and out of all the different companies that have come around over that time, pioneer and soundchoice were always my favorites.... Too bad they're not around anymore They could really give some of these new companies a lesson in quality.

EXCELLENT product, though pricey as hell when I bought them..
I hope the conversion goes easy for you- I've heard war stories- but you are using equipment that I am unfamiliar with. Can you post a bit more Dazzle info?

Just make sure the file it creates can be played by the software. Some require certain coedecs that you may need to download.

Joe, if you are going to convert Pioneer disks and you want to share in the task, let me know. I would love to find someone who is also going to convert these - that would save each half the work.

Troy, I sold most of mine years ago- at a loss, I might add- but I think I have a couple left somewhere, and might give it a try. However, what I would be doing is trying to record, and then burn to regular CDs- not to a PC.
You might contact KJ Athena. She has a few full sets, and I believe she has at least one converted for use in a PC. She said her way was a bit difficult, and I believe she would appreciate knowing about the Dazzle for her other sets..

BTW- if you knew what people paid for those discs ( for which you paid about $0.55 each) back in the day, you would soil yourself. You did extaordinarily well....

Love um love um love um...have 3 full sets now and would buy another in a split second if I could find them reasonable to help create a 4th system...word to the wise please be aware most hosters either wont play them or are a pain in the a## MTU hoster is the only one we have found to be LD friendly ...Thanks bunches for the Dazzle info BTW pioneer didnt make 275 discs so you either have multiples (if you do PM me and I'll buy a set) or you have a bunch of other brands too (some of the playboy discs are great most other brands are junk) how many songs are on each disc and are the wkl or pkl's
ours are converted into mpg format.Pioneer made 57 regular and 12 counrty...there were also a few spanish discs and 12 english discs made.....they also made 4 song disc for home use and 1 sided 12'inchers for home use too....very interested in what all you got
