Ok so here's the deal I was walking out of the bar at the end of my show. I looked down and saw a quarter laying in the parking lot next to my truck. I started to pick it up but then thought to myself is this legal? So if anyone can help me out with the following questions please respond.

1) Is it legal for me to keep the quarter?

2) Should I claim it on my income so I can be 1: to 1: on my taxes?

3) If I don't claim it can I get audited?

4) Is it legal for me to sell it on E-Bay or Craigslist.

5) Do you think anyone could get in trouble if they purchased it from me.

6) What if I just kept it at home and only used it for my own personel use?

Please help me out on this I know someone on here knows just look at the huge amount of posts on the legal boards.

Thank you in advance Kuelman1.....

Okay... I'm game.... The Doctor is IN...

No. Mail it to me immediately.
Kuelman1 wrote:

You can if you like. It is not required however. What is "1:1 on your taxes?"
Kuelman1 wrote:

You can get audited only by the Internal Revenue Service at any time whether or not you claim it.

No. Mail it to me immediately.

Not if you have already mailed it to me.

What type of personal use?.... Like a personal massager? EWWWW!.... you may now keep the quarter...

We can only help those that are desperately unable to figure it out themselves.
(That'll be 25 cents please.... you can mail me a check.)

It's really going to depend on whether the quarter was lost, mislaid or abandoned.

LOST - Property is generally deemed to have been lost if it is found in a place where the true owner likely did not intend to set it down, and where it is not likely to be found by the true owner. At common law, the finder of a lost item could claim the right to possess the item against any person except the true owner or any previous possessors

MISLAID- Property is generally deemed to have been mislaid or misplaced if it is found in a place where the true owner likely did intend to set it, but then simply forgot to pick it up again. For example, a wallet found in a shop lying on a counter near a cash register will likely be deemed misplaced rather than lost. Under common law principles, the finder of a misplaced object has a duty to turn it over to the owner of the premises, on the theory that the true owner is likely to return to that location to search for his misplaced item. If the true owner does not return within a reasonable time (which varies considerably depending on the circumstances), the property becomes that of the owner of the premises. This rule varies by jurisdiction.

ABANDONED- Property is generally deemed to have been abandoned if it is found in a place where the true owner likely intended to leave it, but is in such a condition that it is apparent that he or she has no intention of returning to claim it. Abandoned property generally becomes the property of whoever should find it and take possession of it first, although some states have enacted statutes under which certain kinds of abandoned property – usually cars, wrecked ships and wrecked aircraft – escheat, meaning that they become the property of the state.

Hope that helps :D

I guess my response needed a sarcasm clarifier. I only posted to add to the humor.

Are you avoiding my question about who's interest you were referring?
