Hello,

Maybe this issue has been discussed many times, but I only happened to saw only one short thread of discussions on it. Therefore I dare to start again:

Does anyone know whether there is any chance to get back those karaoke songs that were taken out from karaoke.com pages? I mean the songs with sunfly and chartbusters labels? I was really disappointed to see that my favourite stuff had simply disappeared. What is left there does not interest me much, especially the midi files. Any other website where these labels would be available? Or any other website with maybe a different karaoke program but also with a looong list of songs? Many sites I don't trust and hence I don't even dare to try.

There are a number of places that carry discs and equipment online.

Doowop.com
tsckaraoke.com
karaokewh.com

among many, many others. If it's out of print, I'd contact doowop.com first.

Thanks for information. Seems like I did not make myself clear, sorry. And I am really a starter here. I don't mean discs or gear. The CDG format favoured in N America is not supported very well here. I am looking for computer karaoke files to be purchased and downloaded. I checked those sites but did not find computer karaoke files. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm a little new at this myself. What format are you looking for? The only formats for the computer that I know of are .kar files (midi), MP3+CDG (two files), .krk (used only on XBox that I know of), and a few proprietary formats like those used on CAVS players.

kar (and midi) files can be found at a number of places around the internet for free in most cases

MP3+CDG can be produced from CDG discs with a small time investment (per disc)

krk files are only available for the xbox from one site (that I know of)

Maybe I just don't have enough experience to answer the question accurately?

I use a similar system to your mp3 + cdg format, but I am using wma + txt files. These are available at least from pckaraoke.com (not karaoke.com, I was wrong with that too), and now I am looking for another place that sells them. As far as I konw .wma files are manufactured by Microsoft and they only run in computers using Windows system. Pckaraoke.com sells a program with which I can play the files. I can also play them using Windows media player, but then I don't see the text. Although this sounds complicated it is a good system to me, as I can play all my songs with my computer.

But, as I told, I don't know other sites selling songs in .wma format. Hopefully someone could help me with this.

You can always create WMA files fromn MP3's. It's not too difficult but if you've never done it before it may seem overwhelming.

I have heard of people using WMA+CDG for playback on the computer though (forgot to mention that one). There is a plug-in for Windows Media player to allow use of the CDG files. If I can find a link or the name of it I'll post it here (unless someone beats me to it).

As for sites that sell WMA+CDG files I don't know of any off the top of my head, Sorry. The best I could do is to recommend ripping CDG's to WMA+CDG for playback w/ winamp or Windows Media Player. It would give you a lot more options, but it would require a time investment to learn how to rip the CDG's to WMA and you'd have to have a CD player in the comptuer that will read the subcodes properly.

As for the KRK files on the X-Box, they're not cheap (about $2 per track - high given the other limitation), and they have a very limited selection. Another problem? You can only have 250 songs per x-box. Let's see, a show w/ 2000 tracks will require $4000 for the tracks and 8 (yes, 8) X-boxes. Not real condusive to running a show. If you don't use X-Box live, you can use a modded x-box to play WMA+CDG files through the karaoke software, but they still haven't found a way around the 250 song limitation (as of a couple weeks ago). They were able to burn the tracks to disk for playback but given the amount of time to read in the disk and que up it's not practical for a show. For home use it might be ok, but if you're trying to push 15-20 singers an hour it's difficult (which is why I won't buy any more 50 track DVD's!).

Hey, thanks, that was a lot of info. I've been looking through karaoke web pages all yesterday (got really tired with it...). Seems like CDG format is really common while others are in minority. I think I will try with a CDG and see what I will get out of it, either by ripping or trying to play it as such.

I have heard of people using WMA+CDG for playback on the computer though (forgot to mention that one). There is a plug-in for Windows Media player to allow use of the CDG files. If I can find a link or the name of it I'll post it here (unless someone beats me to it).

Please, if you know a safe link for it I would be very happy to get it.

Of course there are VHSs and DVDs available, which I could easily play, but for 1 song I really like I get 10 I don't want to sing at all. That's why I prefer individual pc karaoke files.

I can't remember the specific application and I rebuilt my computer recently. However, I did find a couple applications for playing WMA+CDG files. Remember, if you get CDG discs you'll need to rip them to MP3+CDG or WMA+CDG files to play them back properly in most cases.

Mimic plays WMA+CDG

Breeze is a low cost playback solution ($25)

You can also buy MP3+CDG files.

I don't have any affiliation with these companies and I'm still trying to find that add-on I mentioned. But perhaps in the meantime this will get you started. BTW, if you go with WinAmp (Free) as the player, you can get a plug in that plays the CDG portion for free. It will play MP3+CDG files w/o any problems.

Hope this gets you started!
