Could you elaborate? Is there any reason they couldn't use SD?

The licencing plight is an excuse. Sunfly, Zoom, SBI all sell downloads. Yes they are from the UK, but SC has moved their production there to be covered by UK laws for licensing.

SC does not want downloads so they can more easily spot people to sue.

I still (mostly) buy CD's first and download when I just need a few odd songs. I like to have the "hard copy" if you will, but if it changes from a "cd" to a "sd card" or something similar....I'll be on board with that too!

...or force them to spend $20 or more on a CDG that has one song on it that they really want. Had this happen to one of my singers - he wanted a song and got it - along with 9 others he didn't want. I quit buying that way and just buy single songs now, usually by request.

wonder how Bruce feels about not being able to bring his music to a show once the disc goes bye bye? It will solve the outside disc issue. Maybe not the outside zip drive or SD card. I can't play off of zip drive because all my usb ports are taken up by my external hard drive and my usb sound card. Not gonna invest in a usb hub just to please somebody who may never show up at my shows.

Now, while technology has made huge strides over the last few years and decades, I think an SD card might not be a good idea, simply because of its size and how easy it would be to lose. Years ago, (im old, yeah) I remember this one fellow that put a custom horn system in his pickup truck. It had different tiny cartridges that plugged into a "player" and each one had different sounds or even voices. He promptly lost several of his cartridges just because of the size of them. SD cards would be no different. Unless they made them bigger and easier to store, then that would work. Think of it this way, they started making cell phones so small, that they were getting damaged/lost in pockets. That is one of the reasons for the wider format of the current phones. Small does not mean good sometimes.

If that was the way people started to bring in their own music, then I would invest in a media card reader &/or USB hub (these cost under $20). Even a much smaller price to pay and relatively nothing more to carry in as it would already be in the laptop bag and would take up little space. I have had people bring in flash drives on occasion already.

Anyone know where the plant is that is still pressing LP's?
When is the last time someone saw NEW CASSETTE TAPES for sale.

It's just a natural progression .... Who actually buys CD's anymore .. ( and if you do don't you just convert them to mp3 ?)

Karaoke eventually will be the same ...sure you can have your cdgs but more and more will be forced to go digital

Actually, vinyl has been undergoing a resurgence. There are several manufacturers -- I know of Dynamic Sun, but there are others.

Yup. I think eventually you'll carry it in your all-in-one phone/computer/GPS/mail/wallet thingie, whatever we end up calling that inevitable appliance.

Mckyj57,,, putting all your eggs in one basket is definitely not wise. By putting your music collection in/on one device isn't a smart idea. If you lose it, break it, gets stolen, etc. you are out of your entire music selection. Whereas, if you have individual media, whether it be CD, SD, cassette, or whatever media is soon to be created, then if you lose, break, get stolen one or two or even several, you aren't losing your entire collection.

Really everyone, we can discuss or suppose all we want, but we as consumers have the ability to influence the wave of the future, simply by making our voices/concerns to the manufacturers and developers. It's like,,,everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.

Apparently you are misunderstanding me. I am talking a decade from now.

We eventually will all be storing most everything on a PDA or whatever you call it. When you do so, it will be automatically backed up or shadowed somewhere -- "in the cloud" if you will. In the cloud may mean your home machine, a service provided by your phone/comms provider, etc. You may not have everything there, but you will be able to get access to most anything you have at home. The zippier Droid phones already have a lot of this basic capability, but it will take years to shake out and become standard. Networks are going to have to get faster, but they will.

People are already downloading airline tickets to their phone, checking in, and getting a boarding pass which they scan directly from their phone into the airline kiosk at the entrance to the plane. Those shopping cards or tags? Those can be put on your phone and scanned. And this is just the beginning. You'll walk up to your KJ, you'll scan each other's phone, and the KJ will give you access to upload one song to his phone where he will then play it. There might even be DRM that only allows one play of the image.

I don't know if you remember how backward the year 2000 would seem today, with the technology we have now. I assure you, it will be even more so in 2021.

There are a few that still press lp's, some in bulk masses, some by special order, many for pro dj's as well. Fred Meyer stores are ones that have begun selling them again on a regular basis. A couple of the stores by my house have a couple hundred records in stock - newer titles included.

It's amazing that they still do --- I know many club DJ are still spinning.

I suspect the world will be there -- I don't know about me, I'll have been on Medicare for years by then, assuming both it and I still exist.

I know of a few as well. It's actually a pretty talented art form really. Not many people can take a couple songs & blend them perfectly into one song by beat matching them back & forth without a skip. Also many rappers/hip-hop even some hard rock/pop artists still use vinyl for beats & scratching.
