I've always been curious how much bandwidth the Singers Showcase uses.

It's probably a compliment to Phil that the site is so popular and members are submitting so many songs. Will it be out until the start of the new month?? Damn! I wanted everyone to hear my 50's sub :)

I believe that Phil is the webmaster, designer of this site, but I don't think he's the owner of the site. I know that he offers hosting as well as website development services, however, I believe he's a re-seller for another companies hosting services. I could be wrong on that, not really sure if he runs his own servers or not. The owner of the site needs to upgrade to a better plan with a higher bandwidth allotment. It's not the number of songs uploaded, stored on the server, it's the number of songs streamed, (played), that takes bandwidth.

When you have a website, you pay a certain amount per month for the hosting, (storage) of your content on the server and an additional amount for bandwidth usage, the amount of information sent from the server to the end user. All plans will allow for a certain amount of storage and a certain amount of bandwidth. In this case, the bandwidth has exceeded the plans allotment. Too many songs were streamed this month.

You will notice that these sites aren't one in the same. While they are all owned by the same person and very similar in design, (by design) this site is karaoke-forum.com, the other sites are karaokescene.com, karaokescenemagazine.com, thatskaraoke.com, karaokefest.com, songburst.com and singersshowcase.com, they are seven different sites, six of which are all offshoots of karaokescene.com. That's why this one and the others are still up and running while singersshowcase.com, where the vast majority of the bandwidth is used, is down.

WOW!

I knew this would happen one day!

Amazing, just amazing. I have increased the bandwidth. That should remedy the problem for now.

Steven - You are almost correct. ;)
I am only the webmaster/designer not the owner. :?

However, I am not a reseller, I do own & run my own servers.
8)

Next, uploading files, viewing pages, as well as, listening to the submissions all uses bandwidth. You wouldn't believe me if I told you what the bandwidth useage was for the month of August!! :o

The owner recently upgraded to a larger amount of bandwidth and space. (Not thinking that it would be reached.) I guess I under-estimated the popularity of this section of the site.

Great job folks! See how popular you are!

NOTE: I have separated some sections of the main site into separate server plans, each running there own bandwidth - that way when portion goes over the limit (like just did) the other sections are not effected. That is why you can see the forums... OH I see Steven edited his message to explain that as well... Hmmm :)

Morning Phil!!
I wouldnt say, ONLY, the webmaster! LOL! I was just trying to show that "it's not Phil's fault".

I wasn't really sure about the hosting. I couldn't really tell if you were re-selling or if you were actually running your own servers. Nothing wrong with being a re-seller either. Even though, I now know that you're not.

Yeah, I know that all of that stuff you mentioned takes bandwidth but I know that the streaming of the MP3's has to take a HUGE amount of bandwidth!! Oh yes I would believe you Phil!! LOL!

Steven, I wasn't saying, that you were saying that I was ONLY the webmaster. I was saying it because you didn't say it :) I think that came out right???

Yes, you are very correct - each time that a song is listened to, it uses up bandwidth. lots of bandwidth...

I was going to provide an explanation, you know me and my numbers  But suffice it to say - WOW!
