The quality is actually better than KJPro in my opinion. I had Speedbook and liked the fact that I could use word or whatever word processor to print it out.

Hey, consider the spirit in which it is given - that makes it very valuable IMHO.

I don't quite understand what your motivation is to repeatedly slam this program from the very start. Don't like the output? Fine. Don't use it, no one is forcing you.

EXACTLY!!!
Even if you never use it, at least appreciate the fact that someone else might and for that someone, it may be a very valuable tool!
Thanks again, Chip. Awesome job!

Chip:

Got your program and tried to use it but a couldn't.

Does it only scan for .zip files?
Can it only scan one folder at a time or the folder and all subs?

It does only search for zips currently and it does search sub-folders.
I think Chip was going to make it so it would search for other files as well and you could select which ones, but perhaps wait for him to chime in on that, just to be sure.

ok wasn't sure as the search criteria was locked in .zip.

decided not to zip files last time I ripped as lots of disc space available.

Also Chip another search function that you might add is

Artist - Title - Discid

being computer based I don't use the track # anymore

Thanks

Yes right now it will look for only zips... HOWEVER...

I have changed the installation and unlocked it. So you it's already to go....

This is the same thing, but I've unlocked the file type for you. You can specify other types of files, but make sure you use the asterisk+dot before the extension:

*.zip
*.cdg
*.mp3
*.mp4

if you wanted to make a songbook out of only the songs that contain the word "heart" in the title OR artist then you would specify it like this:

*heart*.zip

This will find all the files with "heart" in the title or by the band "Heart"....

It should already do that for you. Just select the one that is:

Artist - Title - DiscID-Track

Because the program will ignore the hyphen in the discid because there are no spaces around it.

The unlocked version will allow you to search for:
*.cdg

and you can use the above. Here's how it works so you can understand the priorities that it uses:

#1. Start from the END of the file name work backwards.

#2. Lop off the last 4 characters (usually the period and the 3-letter extension)

#3. Convert any instance of [space]+hyphen+[space] to a "pipe" symbol. (a straight up bar). This will ignore the discID-track hyphen.

#4. Count the number of pipe symbols - if there's more than 2 there's an error - write it to the "ERROR.TXT" file.

#5. Divide the fields based on the users selection of format of which order is the title and artist..

#6. Create the temporary database, sort the info and write the files.
------------------------------

That's basically it.... Let me know if this works for you.

I think you should include the unlocked version.

D/l the new one you sent and getting this after the scan

Run-Time error '53':
File not found

is this because of the select file order?

No. This is because it couldn't find the 2nd half of the program which is apparently in a different folder.

You need to drop that file in the same folder as the other program.

If you used the default installation, it will be in the folder named:

C:/book

I will put the unlocked version in the installation package now... so it will be all set.

Chip:

I think I found and error in the program, I'm not hounding you it looks great so far but

I have a file called:

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Kam Evil #9 - AH2003

when I try and make the book it gives me a bad file name, I tried to figure out what was making it bad and the only thing I came up with was the comma (,) when I deleted the comma from the name the program would work but as soon as I put it back in it said Bad file name or number.

Just something to look into.

I haven't tried it further than this as I know there are a lot of file names I have with comma's in the name.

Thanks

I have and I think it's very admirable of Chip to share such a program. I am not trying to show any disrespect. I was just voiceing my opinion about the program, not about Chips well intentioned motives.

Sometimes when people are honest, they get bashed. Take Simon Cowell for example from American Idol. He has no problem telling the truth. If a singer sucks, he'll tell you they suck. He doesn't sugar coat it and says straight what he feels. And yes he gets bashed by the audience for his opinion/honesty. But someone like that gets my admiration and respect for having the guts to be honest and say how you feel.

So, while I show no disrespect to Chip or his efforts in giving his program away program for free, my opinion or truthfullness got bashed by some.

Oh well. Anyway, Chip good luck with your program. While it may not be for me, I'm sure it will be for some others.

Sometimes, it's not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it.
Simon Cowell could easily say what he says without being as cruel as he is, sometimes. But then that doesn't get ratings, does it?

It shouldn't be the comma. I've accounted for them in the program.

But, I'll look into it... is the file's full name: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Kam Evil #9 - AH2003.zip

Just ran it on a folder that contained 35 mp3 and the corresponding cdg files and searched based on *.cdg and it worked fine with no errors.

Try running it again and email me either the Kiosk.CSV file or the Hoster.dat file (they're almost the same)... thanks, I'll see what I can find.

One of the songs in the test was: DK9813 - Earth, Wind & Fire - September.cdg

While it came out fine with no errors, I do have a routine that reverses names based on the position of a comma. This would not have caused an error in the program, but it would output the name as: Lake & Palmer Emerson

"Temptations, The" will come out as "The Temptations" alphabetized under the "Tem" not "The".

I did this so that names like "White, Barry" would alphabetize under the "W" for "white" and not the "B" for Barry. It reverses the name on the output so that it reads correctly under the "W's" as "Barry White". If you want the names to be sorted by first name; (i.e. under "B" for Barry) then the filename should have the artist's name the way you want it with NO commas "Barry White" or "Emerson Lake & Palmer."

The same thing happens for song titles that are this way "Rain The Park, The" will come out under "R" as "The Rain The Park".

Does this make sense?

Good of you to say.
Mr. Cowell gets paid more money than Chip so it doesn't quite equate.
But you worked it out.
Welcome back.
