Wanting TO BECOME A KJ
I would
like to start KJ'ing and just need any advice.
I am putting together my equipment and wondering if this will be good enough for small to med size clubs.

JB-99 jukebox with 13,000 songs
Vocopro CDG-500RF for backup/DJ
Vocopro VP-300X amp(300watts)
Behringer UB-1222-FX Pro
Shure SM58 wireless and 4 other mic's
13" monitor with monitor stand on wheels

I am going to order JBL EON1500 speakers with stands

With you guys experience is this enough for me to handle different size gigs???I have a lot of learning to do so take it easy on me

Very small gigs up to 50 people. Once you get the JBL's (as long as they are the G series, you might be able to push up to 100-150 room clubs.

I can't speak too much of the cavs unit but I've heard many people have and like them..

But I would look into some other equipment as far as you power amp goes
Stay away from VOCOPRO ...I won't get into the quality aspect of their equipment because thats subjective ..some people like them..MOST do not.
BUT THE COST OF THEIR EQUIPMENT can not be argued .....
Try a PEAVEY PV1500 AMP fpr the same price you will be getting a more powerful better sounding better built unit. EVEN BEHRINGER offers a better power amp AT A LOWER COST.

The Vocopor unit for your back up is $549+/- ...Look at some of the
other topics on this site and you will find much better suggested euipment that is lower cost - higher quality with more features ...
JVC/RSQ units whether single tray or triple tray units ... for DJ'ing and KJ'ing ..Look at the NUMARK 25CDG .

Speakers are a good choice other options would be
YAMAHAS115V - $329/EA
PEAVEY SP5 - $350/EA

I bought the Vocopro ViperII a couple of years ago and have used it at home and a couple of times for friends parties for freebies.I have been satisfied with the unit but I realize I need more if I want to play in clubs or private parties.I enjoy KJing and like to see folks sing and have fun.
I just figured since I had the unit I might as well make use of it.I currently have it set up at home as a filler/DJ deck and have been practicing using a mixer to make singers sound good.
Guess I will have to consider a new amp for larger gigs.

I have learned a lot from this board and found great ideas and tips here.Apparently there is a lot of expertise around here and you know us new guys need it.

Be careful when looking at the CAVS players that come pre-loaded or the CAVS 202 that comes with a high number of songs. I've asked the majority of the people showing those players on e-Bay about the licensing of the songs and I've never gotten a reply. Even when I asked if I needed to buy them sepereately and if I was only paying for the songs to be loaded they refused to answer. Be VERY careful when purchasing these players. The minute you put them in commercial use you need proof of purchase for the songs. Since I couldn't get an answer I opted to just by my own CD+G's instead of taking the quick route to get a large number of songs. I'm not accusing anyone of anything other than refusing to answer my questions - just be knowledgeable about what you purchase.

Vendors selling the players with 'paks' from Chartbuster, etc are NOT included in the above when they ship with the original discs.

You said 4 other mics, what brand are you considering?

The size and shape of the room (or lack thereof) can also have an impact on the size of the crowd you can handle. Do you have a planned gig or are you going to contract out? These are questions that you should try to answer as well.

If you buy from a reputable Cavs dealer, or their own website, the preloaded songs are fully licensced. If you have any questions, go to the cavs website and ask them directly.

People selling a jukebox on ebay with Sound Choice preloaded??? and no master discs??? Uh ohhhh!

I know all about ebay and refuse to buy anything on there.Most of the time folks pay more than the prices of some of the good webb sites.

I originally bought my ViperII from ace karaoke i think.Have been pleased with it but might sell it to put my money in real good equipment.

I bought my CAVS unit from cavsusa.com so i would assume they are licensed.Havent seen any SC songs on it and i have had it for over a year.
I bought the Shure UT4 wireless and love it.I also have Vocopro MK14,ATR-30,, 2- OEM22,,Pioneer DM-V210

For my first gig the country club where i am a member is going to try me out and i probably will get to play there a couple of times a month.I am also open to any other type of gigs as long as its not a club where they throw bottles

Something I should have done long ago is peruse the archives. It covers the last couple years of posts and the same discussions often come up more than once. I did some reading and got a lot of questions answered while I was at it. I'm new to hosting karaoke and DJ'ing... but so far it's been a blast! Good luck with your business!!!
