I just ordered a CFX12 and was wondering how and if I should integrate my BBE Sonic Maximizer into the mix. Currently, I have it wired between my JVC triple and my AKJ7050 mixer/amp. Now I am considering using it not only on the music but the complete mix. Has anyone done this, and is there a reason I should just keep it on the music only? Also what would be the best way to integrate the maximizer into the CFX board?

Thanks

I added a Bbe 362 along with a Dfx12 I actually added 4 1/4 plugs and hard wired it between the eq out and all the output busses It would be possible if you use single ended out just to use those but I use balanced out so I had to jury rig... I think it does help with some vocals esp those singers that really eat the mic,, I dont know still evaluating...

I have a bbe 882i and I use it in the main insert before my eq. It really adds a lot of definition to the vocals and brings them forward. Great piece of gear.

BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer, should go in lline just before the amp. after the equalizer.

ideal setup would be karaoke player ->Mixer->equalizer->BBE->amp->speakers

I'm not so sure it will help in that case unless you go in between the player and the powered mixer. Unless you have an option to use it as an insert so it will enhance all outputs.

On the 808s you can input the Bbe from the left & right mix out ( A 1/4" plug into these does not break , the mixer is still routed to the amps) The output of the Bbe is returned to the amps in (These do break and the only input to the amps is whataever is plugged into these jacks) I have actually run my system into these jacks and used the 808s amps and speakers.

Thanks Karyoker for your input. Can you tell me what model you have or rather what model you think I should get? My room is 20x28 and for some reason the vocals arent clear sounding. What can I do to improve? I have Shure Beta SM58 mics.

Thanks a million!

I think it was Lonman that talked me into the 360x but I havnt been able to afford it yet .... I use the 362 and it is awesome and from what Ive read on all these posts I think all the Bbe models work good.. What it does with old recordings for ex Patsy Cline blows my mind Running Crazy thru a bbE makes one weep...... :D

Actually if you read the instructions right from bbe they will tell you to run the bbe pre eq because with it you will usually need much less if any eq. I hardly use my eq since i got my bbe.

I use the same board & run mine on the entire mix via the main inserts, it works just as well as running it inline as suggested & it will have less tendency to clip. The BBE is a frequency aligner, why not have it incorporate the vocals as well.

That's the dbx 160X compressor. The 160A is a newer version & is readily available, but you will pay for it as well.

What are the differences between the BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer and the Peavey Kosmos?

The BBE manipulates phase and time delay in certain frequencies to overcome the impedance issues common to all loudspeakers, it basically put, melts the highs/mids/lows to work together. It doesn't add any harmonics or extra frequencies.

The Kosmos is subharmonic processor and high frequency enhancement system. It adds harmonics to the lows to get the sub bass & will generate certain frequencies to get the crispness in the highs - it's more along the line of an eq specifically designed for certain frequencies.

I've heard & used both, each have their advantages, no real disadvantages to having 1 or the other. Although the better the equipment, & we're talking HIGH $$ stuff, the less need for either. They will take smaller systems & make them sound a little bigger, fuller & crisper.

pkircher,
The reason I see putting it after the equalizer, for one I only use the equalizer to reduce feeback otherwise it is set to "0". Also The BBe I used had a separate jack out for subs. I couldnt see equalizing the mains without also doing the subs.

Sometimes I follow the manuals, and sometimes I experiment and ley my ears tell me what sounds best. Sound enhancement has differing effects depending on the components.

Lonnie, I've been looking into adding either a BBE or compressor/limiter/expander. Reading the manual from my mixer the main inserts are TRS. The way I read it, I can insert and return with 1 connector?(tip=send, ring=return, sleeve=common/gnd.) Looking at most add on effects, they have a send and return for each channel. Do I need to make a special cable to use the inserts? I've not seen any in catalogs. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place or maybe I'm totally confused on the use of inserts.

I believe you would use a 1/4" trs (stereo) ->to 2 - 1/4" Mono cable to connect it. avalible at any radio shack or pro audio store.

An insert cable has 2 shielded cables running to a stereo plug both grounds or shields common to the shield lug One goes to tip (send) other end to a mono plug (mark with red tape) The other goes to the ring (return) and to another mono plug.. The red goes to input of BBe, compressor etc The other mono plugs into the output of BBe (return to mixer)....
