I'm curious to know, which software are you using for PC Karaoke? :?:

Also, do you use the mp3+g format or bin, cdg???

MTU's Hoster..... it makes .KMA files. they are adding mp3+g support, and wma, amd mp3 support. so you can kj, & dj from the same software.
it even does your songbooks.

once they go to mp3g supported, I'll be on board the MTU bit... It's been my ONLY problem, and why I've never gone with it!

Matt,
Have you ever compared quality between the mp3 & the wma files and compared file sizes?

for the same, yet better quality the wma file is half the size of the mp3. I realize the mp3's can be traded easier, but arent we againgt that here?

the Kma for that Mtu uses compresses with the WMA format from microsoft. Therefore I will always use the kma version if I am given a choice of MP3 vs Kma.

MTU is wrong when they say that the wma is superior than mp3! If you use the latest Lame dll encoder you'll get a much better sound than the wma. I agree that with the traditional mp3 encoder Windows format is better!

The problem with Hoster is the Keychanger, it's by FAR the worst on the market!!

The advantage of having the audio track & the graphic separeted (cdg) is that you can decode to Wave and than do some correction like normalise!

Thanks

1.) my preference for the mp3g format has NOTHING to do with online trading. Don't know WHERE you got that from!

I can use winamp for zero cost and run my rotation the way I do now... with song slips. My partner is doing that now on his Friday and Sat gig.

Why is it that every time we talk about the mp3 format we're talking about been illegal??? This format is a compression format just like wma!! :?

A kma file from Hoster could also be trade, so what's the difference???

I use the mp3+g format & I don't feel illegal!! In fact, I use the wave+g format when doing my recording so this way I get the clear 16 bit (soon 24 bit) sound and the graphic!!

How many Karaoke software do you know that can play the wave+g, mp3+g & wma+g??? Of course, the direct cdg reading is also possible!

I forgot to mention, this software also uses THE best audio engine in the industry call Bass Audio!! The software is call Karawin and it's a shareware ONLY for the Midi & Kar player but the rest is freeware!!

For low bitrates, WMA seems to be a better compression scheme than MP3

THIS IS FROM AN MP3 SITE ADMITTING IT. Sorry about the caps, I type in them all day.

I have researched many websites, and to get the same quality as a 64kbps wma file, mp3 must be a 256kbps. resulting in a file 4 times the size. MP3 still throws aways the highs, and lows which cannot be recovered. this is where the losses occour.

If you are a mp3 diehard, then by all means stay with it. Some of us have moved into the 21st century.

the reason I upgrade computers every year or two is to improve, I am up to a 3.2 ghz machine. If I were to like old technology like mp3 I would still be using an old 486-33

I wasnt making reference to that, only to the fact that there are so many mp3 iles floating around illegally. I can't remember the last time I saw a .kma file out there om the website to trade. altho I have seen plenty of .wma files.

"some of us have moved into the 21st century".

Do me a favor, drop the smeggin' attitude.

And the reason I asked you about the mp3 trading routine, is you put them all in the same context of the comment...

Dr.D,

Knowing you moved to the 21st Century, you might want to read a bit more?

I said wma is better than the standard mp3 but not better than the Lame encoder. Not me saying it but anyone who knows a little bit about Hi-Fi.

Let your ears be the judge than you'll be able to speak the same language!! By the way, have you heard of mpeg4 yet?

Dr.D,

I wish to assure that when I say that the key changer in Hoster is the worst on the market, well I know what I'm talking about!
I spent so much time as a Beta Tester for MTU trying to figure out how to correct this quivering and it didn't do any changes!

This key changer has terrible quivering effect that my young 6 year old girl can hear!!

Now, don't get me wrong, Hoster is an excellent software in fact the best KJ software but they need to fix this problem.

winamp's pacemaker is a terrific key changer. Changes Tempo, Speed and Pitch, all independently!!

I have read numerous articles on mp3, and know of mp4. the lame encoder is only better in the mp3's above 256kbps. and you still cant reconvert it to a wave and get true cd quality.

enough said on this subject, To each his own

After giving it some thoughts I wish to clarify my comments:
First, I was obviously out of line and upset when I made this post. :x
Second, on most songs the key change I tested worked excellently, and only on a few songs that you were able to find, it did not works as well.

I've made good comments in the MTU forum regarding the new version and I felt it was unfair to make such a comment in this forum!

It's my right of course not to like or like there Key Changer but I have to be honnest & say that they worked hard at trying to correct this problem.

I regret having made the prior post and wish to withdraw it!! :!:

regards

well, here's something that's BAD about Sax & Dotty's:

If you install it on a hard drive, and you have a problem and need to reinstall it on another hard drive, you'll need ANOTHER key... no biggie USUALLY. But my friend Doug told me that S & D are now making people pay for that next key, even if you are a fully licensed key holder... they have no ways of keeping people from installing them on multiple computers otherwise.

Soooo, he'll never do business with them again, and is spreading the word!

SHEESH!

I have heard that... But heck waddya want for 45 bucks... I aqctually run S and D now on my two rigs... The adage you get what you pay for definitely applies... But since this is my first foray into puterized Karaoke after being a hard core, never gonna give up my discs convert, I must say, the ease of use and not having to haul around and maintain all those discs far outweighs the minimal loss of sound quality..
My little servers are athlon 2.4 with a small boot HD and removable hard drive for my song and dance music library...
I do personally think the discs sound better no doubt, but it's funny... Half of the crowd actually thinks the new mp3 system sounds better... I guess it's kinda like running sound, it's very personal and subjective... Most people love it and some don't..
Whatever your opinion and whatever you run, you at least gotta admit it's easier than lugging around and maintaining a disc library...
