Yesterday, I submitted an mp3 song (the hand that rocks the cradle), but it doesn't show up in showcase. As this was my first submission, I may well have done something wrong, I just don't know what. Any help here would be appreciated.

Next, you may want to be certain that your Singer's Showcase "Profile" has been updated. It may not recognize you as a member of that section until you do.
