I would like to buy a projector but im not sure what I need. It seems like I wouldnt need a real expensive one being that I will only be projecting lyrics from the songs, but I dont want to invest money on something I have to constantly repair. I seen a few on ebay but not having any experience with projectors Im not sure what my chances are of getting a good used projector. Any help would be great!

What would it be used for - home or mobile? If mobile, i'm not sure you are going to really need it. Most of the clubs - even the bigger ones, don't have any place to set one up. These are better for halls & ballrooms. Good ones aren't cheap & the older ones (red, blue & green lens) tend to need alignments on regular basis - more so if you are moving it around. I worked with a video dj company many years ago & they were replacing their units once a year & $4,000 a pop. You can now find them for around $1000 up to $5000 now days, but the lower $$ are also the base line models which may be all you need. But I wouldn't buy used - that much I know.

I would rather stay out of the bars mainly it would be for wedding receptions, graduation parties birthdays reunions. Im thinking mostly in small civic centers, lions clubs, back yards, etc.

I have an Infocus 4800, permenently installed at my bar with a 5'x8' screen. Bought it at Sam's Club with a 3'x6' roll up screen for about $1000. Where I have it mounted I have a 20' ceiling, and the screen is mounted on the wall about 8' high. I use a Vocopro video mixer (http://www.vocopro.com/frm_product.html) that I use with a video camera and my Karaoke set up.
I suppose you could use it as a mobile set up if you use a roll up screen with a tripod mount or something, and the room and distance to set up the projector.
