Geez, another one of these controversial little topics.
And- apology- I actually answered that little thread started by kcultist. Had I have seen this one first I would not have posted to his.
He bit my head off (well, 1/2 off maybe) for telling him I had subbed songs to another site for professional review. I believe the word "plugging" was written back to me too. And I just answered his post. I went in and edited my stuff out. I don't think he wanted to hear from anyone else, I think he just wanted people to read what he had posted.
You go girls- & ignore people like that. I read this entire thread and didn't get the idea you all are "plugging" for anything. Who would need to "plug" here anyhow?!? I mean, we all get HEARD in Singers Showcase, so if we plug to get someone's attention by our singing, it's THERE- not HERE. And we ALL post songs. If you DID catch the attention of someone important it would be from there not here. He's a little looney.
You can borrow my boots if ya need to, cause I can tell ya a good place to plant it on someone like that, .
I'm glad to see you have gotten some good support from people, there are some truly good people here.
OK What Now:
If I was your wife I'd tan your little hide for some of the comments you make about women.
Allstar:
Your wise to make comments like that to cover your own behind. Your wife must be proud of her "good little boy".
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*LOLLLLLLL*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Now, none of you men get your hackles up, I'm just havin' fun right back.
Luly- Ritisroo :
You all haven't done anything wrong here. Glad to see you're tough enough to hold your own against people like that. Everything you posted back was justified IMO.
~Peace, People~

ok What Now wrote: its funny how you never hear from these people till u do something wrong... ...sometimes we all need to shout....CAN YOU HEARRRRR MEEEEEEE?
??? Granted, I'm not a prolific poster in here, but I have made my fair share of contributions to various discussions, as well as started a few threads of my own.
I really don't see anything wrong with politely (and I was polite about it) informing people about generally accepted discussion forum etiquitte practices. Trust me, I've seen MUCH ruder responses to people who type in all caps.

- I just knew that was comin' sooner or later, that or someone actually posting that silly little song.
But I've toughened up about it over the years. Kinda "Sticks and stones may break my bones............."
*~LOL~*
Go ahead, I can take it. I've grown up being heckled about it. Heard all the Mr Whipple jokes too.
Ya wanna really laugh? My name was to actually be "Loretta Lynn Gibson." (my mother's favorite singer I guess). But, I was not born black haired and my grandma in Texas argued that the name would not suit me. So........Charmin tissue had not been out long, they wanted to use the name Lynn, and so....Charmin Lynn was named. My little sister still calls me "Loretta " to this day if she's in the mood to tease me. (or mad at me, )
Since I love to sing her songs, I'm really glad to have gotten the name Charmin rather than Loretta. That would have been awfully silly, dontcha think?

Charmin,
Thanks for believing in us (me & ritisroo). Personally I think this guy got dropped on the head at birth.
He actually came back to insult me again yesterday til I called it to the attention of Phill. He deleted all the posts after then and hopefully has cut him off from this site. It's his call, but if it were up to me, I wouldn't let this guy abuse of anyone else again.
I like your name. It's different and I'll bet no one ever forgets it. My real name is Lourdes (like Madonna's daughter) but people remember and can say my nickname, Luly, much better. I remember kids not being able to pronounce my name and make up little jokes too, so you're not alone, girl. Glad it's not getting you down anymore.

Luly,
Don't worry about Kcultist.
I had a run in with him a year or so ago which, to say the least, got a little heated.
He went for a while, I stayed.
Don't let anybody intimidate you but let them have their say.
You can see by the reaction on this thread whose side people have taken.
Give a man enough rope............

I have no problem with anyone having their say, I welcome all opinions, in fact. It's when they get insulting and abusive that I draw the line.

Sheesh... lots of responses in a short time... how could I have missed this thread?!?!?!?!?
There are flamers and dumba$$es all over. I help moderate a sports car forum and we see more than our share I asure you. Don't let it get to you... most people that come to forums like this are here to share, learn, and enjoy.
On a much
I wish you the most of luck in your pursuing a career in the music industry. I must warn you that I've heard more than one singer in concert who's voice was shot from doing concert after concert (Meatloaf actually tore a vocal cord). With the current state of the music industry and the information I've gotten from a number of artist be careful. I've talked with artists who've had record deals who saw very little money - even when the albums went gold and platinum. Pay the bills? Maybe... but some of these people are touring small clubs trying to make it on what's left of their name. Be very careful when the time comes to sign the contract. It's a downer I know, but I try to be careful to warn up and coming people about the one major downfall in the music biz - the suits.
I live in a small town (Fairbanks, Alaska) and we have more than our fair share of talented people. It seems that every other person I talk with is in a band, writes songs, or is working on making it big. With the cost of production coming in so low your best bet is to probably put together some of your own music, put it on a CD with packaging, and sell it locally when you sing. We even have a guy that comes to karaoke on a regular basis that did this (I'm assuming he paid the royalty fees) and sells them at the karaoke show (with the bar's permission). Exposure is what will help to push you to more and more recognition. BTW, I've bought plenty of local music and I absolutely love it. I've heard some of the funniest songs ever from a small band called 'Yukon Ryder', and some really great singing from some other locals like 'Gangly Moose' and 'Denali Cooks'. Even with all the talent we have in this state we've only had one singer make it 'big' from here.....
Keep singing your heart out though. I actually saw a singer break down and cry on stage he was so happy to be performing (he was thanking the crowd after their set - lead for One Eye Blind right after they made it big). He was doing what he loves and was making money at it. He couldn't have been happier at the time.
Since you probably didn't know, I've been doing computer work for a long time because I like it. I'm tired of doing computer work even though it pays the bills. I started singing karaoke and now I'm doing my own show once a week at a bar in Fairbanks, and another bar that will give me at least a show a week until they close and again next summer. He's also helping me to land some end of season parties, and I'm working with the bar to do some Christmas parties and the like. I'm just starting out but things pick up quickly if you really try. I'm almost to the point that I can upgrade my system in a few weeks, and will be making money by the end of the year (unusual for a startup business). I won't be doing it 100%, I still have my computer work, but if all goes well I may be hosting only by the end of next year.
Just like my startup, it's all about exposure of your talents and your passion for doing what you love. If you truly love singing, and work hard at getting the exposure you want, people will see the love and passion you have and respond to it. I like doing different voices, and even singing in different voices (Louis Armstrong, Guns 'N' Roses, Brian Setzer Orch, Cartman singing Styx, and more). It's hard on my voice but I like to do it, and the people that come to the show like it. Do I stand a chance of making it big? Not on stage, but I could do voice overs, studio work, etc all of which don't require that I have the 'perfect' appearance the record labels want. Maybe one day I'll have a director for a cartoon show come by and ask me to do voices... HEY! IT COULD HAPPEN.... Just because you're not 'perfect' doesn't mean you can't make a living doing music professionally....
Even with one of my fiance's former friends working for Sony (recruiting new acts even) it's not likely I'll see the big time... But you have a much better voice, and you're much better looking (I didn't post my pic - it would scare off the forum members). Remember the 3 rules to making it big...
1. Promote and exposure
2. Promote and exposure
3. Luck...
Good luck with your music career and welcome to the forum. Keep us informed as to how things progress.

Karaokemeister, whether it's good or bad I will always want to hear the honest truth.
You've given a lot of very good and useful information and I will certainly take what you've said into careful consideration if it came to the point where a recording contract was even a remote possibility. Right now it's a faraway dream. But if and when this should happen, I will definitely be getting my own "suit" (lawyer) to deal with it.
I know the odds are low that I'll have a shot at the big time, but I do intend to continue "singing my heart out". Singing gives me great joy and pleasure, mostly because it does the same for others. As long as I produce this effect, life is good.
Exposure is definitely the thing. A lot more people know me in this town than they used to. There was a newpaper article about me in the local paper a few months ago when I won a contest. That led to me singing at other places in the city including the July 4th festivities where hundreds of people attended. Even as I write this, I can't believe I've come this far when a year ago you couldn't get me to sing in front of anyone! I always say things happen for a reason...
Thank you for taking time to share your views and experience!
