Hi folks, sorry if this question ends up being ludicrous and annoying but it's all very new to me.
I've borrowed a karaoke machine from a friend (JVC XL-SV22) for a fund raiser for a football team. I hope to use the machine on the night and have managed to get some disks from a local library. These disks appear to be of the MP3 type and the JVC doesn't seem to recognise this format. Is there any way of converting these disks to an older format that it will recognise and then burn a new disk so I can use them as there's a lot of good stuff on these disks that I'd love to use?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you sure they are Karaoke discs? What label/brand are they?

The JVC player won't play these discs at all? No music or anything? The JVC player doesn't play mp3 formats and not knowing what type of format your discs are in for sure would be kind of hard to tell you how to convert them into something else - besides it's illegal to do - especially with discs that aren't even yours to begin with.
If they are mp3 format, put the disc in your computer, it should recognise it & be able to play it or does it play in regular cd player. If it plays in a regular player, it most likely isn't an mp3 disc.

I don't know of too many libraries that have real karaoke discs to check, especially cdg format discs.

The disks that play in the JVC are to my knowledge CD+g by the Sunfly group (or whatever they are called). Also the disks that are MP3 are by Sunfly and they refuse to play at all.
If I 'explore' the files on the CDs they show the individual tracks are CD files whereas in the MP3 disks they show MP3 files for each track as well as a corresponding CDG file.
Is this of any use?

the jvc won't play mp3 files.

the corresponding mp3 files with the .cdg files are a format called MP3+G. They are ONLY able to be played on a computer... the CAVS machine uses a similar feature, and the old Jukebox (JB99) recognizes those files the same way too. THERE IS A mp3g converter available on the net... but it is a pay service... However, the last time I looked, that website was down!

Would I be right in thinking that Karaoke builder studio would do the trick, i.e. convert MP3 +g to CD+G?

wellllllll.......... karaoke builder studio will combine a cdg file and a WAV file to make a .bin file. From that, with the right burner, you can make a karaoke disc.

... you would need a program like goldwave (free on the net) to change the mp3 file to a wav file!

Or use MP3G Toolz to convert MP3G to BIN, which you can the burn to CDG using CDRWin.

Ok, the conversion from MP3+g to Bin files went fine and then I tried to use CDRWin to convert those files to CD+g. What came out was pureley Cd Audio tracks no graphics files played alongside the tracks when I put them into the Player, any ideas? Do I need to add graphic files of the same name to the CDRWin project before I burn it for it to have both files i.e. the Audio file that will play and the graphic file that will display?

Doog, sounds like your burner isn't cdg compatible. The symptom you described is exactly what happens when that's the situation.

For appropriate burners, check out www.goldenhawk.com ... there's a file on the site that says what burners work with cdrwin (or whatever burners recognize the subcode!)...

Lite On LTR-40125S is the burner I've got and according to the list it should be supported, I'm mystified any other ideas?

Two things.......

The Lite-On works only on rainy days........get rid of it and get a Plextor
Have you checked the CDG option in the CDRWIN software before writing? (It's a stupid question, but I have to ask )

I'm sure there are other options, but I'm kinda old fashioned. I prefer to stick what works very well!

exactly what I use dude!

I used to use the Yamaha burners, but that was sometime ago... after the 8 speed, they began to get unreliable. After Win98, the Yamaha's became very erratic. Not saying they won't work for other people, but I began to get weird ASPI errors... graphics wouldn't work right at all...

yet a plextor installed onto the same pc with same OS... not a problem.

Max rip speed 52, and was burning at 24 (was the cheaper of the two drives I saw on newegg.com!!), I was ripping and burning them faster than I could hand write the friggin' labels!!!

And yes, the CDG option has hit me before too! !
