  SB will give you a good sound, they're not studio cards except for their pro EMU series but I wouldn't say they don't give good results!  If you're using an older laptop with a PC Card slots, you might want try to find the SB Audigy2 ZS PCMCIA card, that is one good card and you won't need to carry an external USB device
