I've been reading and following many a KJ here and am proud to say I've expanded into my 2nd set of equipment. I thank you for your suggestions. I just bought new JBL EON G2 powered speakers and would like to know what is a good mixer (with effects) for these babies. The main reason for buying the JBL's is it will allow me to transport equipment in my electric car vs having to haul around a truck and burn gas. So I'd like to keep it reasonable in weight and size.

Sounds Good on the DMX but I spotted a few comments on people stating they'd wish they spent the extra $ on a CFX. Can somebody help me out on this cause I'm down to the wire on this one. thanks



Thanks to all - I bid on a cfx and was outbid at $355. Received an email from the dealer and it said I won at $305? Reputable dealer so I hope I just didn't get burned. This should work nicely with the JBL Eon G2's. I'll let you all know how it sounds

Based on information recvd from some great people here I just recently (2 months ago) bought a Mackie DFX12 mixer w/ efx.

Very pleased with its reputation, quality, user friendlyness, features, sound and PRICE .

I would reccomend this unit.....

Swampy the DFX is a "decent little mixer" One of the differences between the DFX and the CFX is the DFX does NOT have a MID range adjustment on the channels only a HIGH and LOW some find this a problem others learn to live with it. LONMAN is the expert on the CFX as he uses one It all comes down to what your needs are and how much you want to spend $$$ the CFX is about 2 time the price of the DFX but you get what you pay for .... Its a question if you NEED it or NOT ......

Ditto on the Dfx12.. I got a Gemini slant mixer rack 10 over 6 Mounted the Mackie in the top by making hinges with shelf brackets It hinges on the fader end During transport I drop it down into case Also it comes all the way up vertical for access to lower units.. Also in top (short rails at angle) I put a Microverb 4 and a 3630 for mics 1 & 2.. Put 2" rollers on the bottom and made an x out of 2 1/2" boards (slotted ) to set on to get height... (If you ever put a water bed together you know wat i mean)

Alright Guys, after much back n forth I went with a brand new DFX. Can anyone tell me what case you use to transport it in. I don't think it is rack mountable but once again I'll bow to your experience.

SKB makes a nice little mixer case thats fits the dfx 12 . Me personally still carry around the mixer in its orginal box ...I'll continue to do that until
the box craps out ..then I'll have to spring the $100 for the case

Don't forget the Behringer 1832FXPRO.

I've got one I swear by. It has lots more features than those other you mention. And the price is even better.

Making any claims in favor of Behringer ( I have 2, but don't tell anyone..... ) will put you in the hall of shame in the world of KJ's

I've been there, got the shirt and I was finally kicked out of the click by not having the "standard" equipment, like Behringer and Shure. But.........I still use my Behringer's, get great mixes and don't care what people think.

that's not true Allstar. I know many kjs that love their behringer units.

I had ONE (count it ONE...) and the FX unit died on it. But the mixer is still going strong. I've had one (count that one... ONE) Mackie mixer, and the right channel blew on that one.

SO I can't rightfully say which one is better. I know Lonman swears by the Mackie products. If I can find my original invoice, I can get my Mackie mixer worked on free... trouble is, I can't find it. ...

So I can't rightfully say which one would be best for anybody!

The more I get to know you and read your comments, the more respect I have for your opinions Knight. Thanks for that feedback.

As for Lonman swearing by the Mackie products, I respect his professional opinion even if I don't always agree, but that's our God given right. His opinion is something I always value.

Now, if you take your Mackie (blown channel, working effects) mono it to your Behringer (broken effects, working channels) you have best of both worlds!

One little trickk... The power supply in the dfx12 is under the flat or I/O section and the heat sink is screwed to the bottom (heat rises) So I took a 12 volt fan out of an old computer power supply and mounted it on the inside wall of the rack case and blows across the bottom aimed toward that portion It works good ..It is best to cool with an outside heat sink and not circulating dust, smoke and nicotene thru a unit.

I simply tapped into the power supply harness (12v yellow and black) going to the cd drive I have mounted in one of the top racks. I have two power supplies in the computer on the bottom and also power a 17" lcd monitor with 12v @ 6 amps. Plus some other things..

I do not prefer Behringer products. I selected the Behringer mixer after comparing many.It had everthing I needed. Super good routing, metering, inputs, XLR outs, sub masters, a very nice to have separate monitor master, a nine band EQ, and decent effects that you could also patch in to the monitors.

Mackie is good stuff fersure. So is several others, but none offered all that in a great sounding unit that was also rackable.
