Hey guys I am new at this. I was told to try the Sax & Dotty program but I swear I cannot figure out how to work the darn thing. I have dowloaded Winamp and plugins but I must be stupid because I cannot get going. Any help would be appriciated.

Wdan,

PM me I have just installed it and configured it to 100% operational today on the 1st try. (even with a fever and a sinus bug)

Also I can give you e-mail contacts to 3 other KJ's here in the Southwest US who build thier own systems/PC's and will take the time to assist you free of charge. 8)

I've set up one system now with Sax-n-Dotty Best thing is for the first time in long time I can import from data base into Excell, delete all the columns except artist & title and it isnt bogged down with a bunch of edit redo's etc which almost kills it. Also the list is exactly what is on my hard drive Phew.... I have spent years typing (2 fingers makin' books) Now this is easy..

I too can save you a lot of time if you run into a snag The only thing I can't get to work is the Winamp plugin that plays cd's I've configured every way but loose.. still no graphics.. Right now I use Cavs if I need to play a cd.

Another thing I like about it I can launch another Winamp player to play fill music even can pause it while playing karaoke.. Also I dont have any audio drop outs when recording...

Anyway dont hesitate to holler if you need to...

If you're having problems playing MP3G because the lyrics are not showing up, you might be using the wrong version of Winamp. I use Winamp version 2.91. Do not use the latest version of Winamp. Uninstall Sax n Dotty's first, install Winamp, and re-install Sax n Dotty's. Anyway, I had the same problem with the new versions of Winamp but I got it working by using the old version.

If you want a list creator, check out KJ Pro or Karaoke Song List Creator. Sax n Dotty's is so far the best IMO because it is cheap, stable, and quite easy to use. It also uses the standard format MP3G, unlike Vocopro or MTU.

Good luck.

JD

Thanks JD I really didn't want to go back to 2.x but if I can get it to work at least I can play cd's and have a preview screen.

What I was trying to say about song list .. In Sax&D's go to tools-> data ->base-> edit then export. It puts a csv file in his folder under program files.
Then you can open in Excell . I dont use disc No's anymore so I delete all columns except artist & title. Set margins to minimum, column width, & set font for about 50 per sheet. Now I have a list to print which is exactly what is on harddrive. I had the song list creator then shifted to kj pro but the days are over trying to keep track of cd's and duplicates etc and makin' books.
My naming format is ex. Buffet, Jimmy - Volcano.zip So the list is by artist if you want to print books by title just swap columns and re-sort.
Also if you have Microsoft Access open the songlist.mdb in sax's folder it has player list etc...
Thanks,
Ollie

I personally prefer the 2.9 version, just because of the karaoke plugin, the pacemaker and the karaoke .cdg viewer!

Ollie,

Interesting approach using the export facility in Sax. I guess that would be an easy way of making your list in sync with your files.

I'm not sure about the idea of deleting the disk ID. I prefer to leave the ID intact because there are some singers who prefer Sound Choice and I can clearly see which files are for Sound Choice. My naming convention is: Disk ID - Artist - Song Title.zip
eg. SC7501-01 - Elvis Presley - Hohum Song.zip

It's a fictitious song, BTW.

So, when I import them into Sax, I can then see that SC7501 is for Sound Choice. When a singer wants to sing "My Way", I can then do a search and will pull up several songs from different brands.

The other advantage of using KJ Pro is that I can eliminate duplicate songs and songs with vocals. I can also create a smaller list from my custom list. I have been managing my list by making sure that I update my custom list first before moving the MP3G folders to my external disk drive.

I also use CDG Autoname to name all of my files to my standard naming convention. It uses the database from KJ Pro. I suppose you already know that anyway since you have already tried KJ Pro.
