Hi all! I'm looking for a new player that plays dvd,vcd cdg and maybe even mp3g, I'm willing to spend about $2oo for the player i have a large vcd collection but my 5 year old player(apex1200) the mic sound comes and goes. So i was wondering what players you guys would recommend? I have my eyes on a rsq505g selling for around $219. Btw i will be hooking it up to my sony surround sound system, it that makes a difference. Thanks for any help.

I would say the RSQ 505.
You could also look at the CAVS DVD-202G II for about the same price. This one also plays the Super CDG's. But i've never used this one personally or know anyone that has yet either.

I have the RSQ505 and it's a fine animal... well worth the investment.

You asked if connecting your player to a Sony surround sound system makes a differance.
Most of the speakers made for home audio don't cut it.
I have a Sony 5.1 Pro Logic system with karaoke functions, and it sucks for karaoke.
This is not to say that the electronics are bad. It's just that the speakers don't cut it.
Your system MAY be ok for karaoke, but don't count on it.
You may need differant speakers.
If, after you set things up, you find this to be the case, post again with your speaker budget, and your surround sound system's power output for recommendations.

The JVC/RSQ single/triple tray players don't play MP3 or DVD. I think the 505 is the only RSQ that plays those formats.

Hey i know it's tough getting your hands on an inexpensive player but sometimes you get lucky. Last year i purchased a DvD player from Best Buy the brand is a CYBERHOME model CH-dvd- 402 guess what? It not only plays mp3's but it plays Mpeg and yup you guessed it cd-g. I was in shock i purchased this player for the whopping price of $39.99
So if you can ,shop around and look for this player its worth it ! i use it as my back -up machine!!
P.S. i brought 2 of them!!!

Got a cyberhome dvd from best buy about a year ago too, but it doesn't have mic inputs. Did the one you get from best buy have inputs or did you use something else? Thanks for all the help.
