Angel910,
My experience is NOT limited. So kiwis to kiwis. And how did you fit in 11 venues per week? Man, your wings must be tired, lol.

And NO you are NOT of the minority here, so don't twist words. Get off your soapbox and see that we ALL go through a lot of the same karaoke 101 things.

You mentioned that you only had DRUNKS and smokers at that particular venue and they were "never there for your karaoke show"......that IS pretty sad.

The point of that story is not one person followed me to the new job 6 months ago. Think about that.

For too many years i have been hearing the old "how big is your following?" I tell them don't expect a bus load of people to walk in behind me because it doesn't work that way. Never did and never will. We do it the old fashioned way. One new person at a time. It's the same for every other KJ too. The price doesn't matter. The number of songs doesn't matter. The drink prices don't matter. The atmosphere doesn't matter. The sound system doesn't matter. Doesn't matter how much you kissed their butts. Or how many parties you had for them or how many Emails you sent. If they want to come they will. If they don't they usually won't.

Smoking or non smoking matters. That's about it. Take it to the bank.

Well, once I again I have to disagree with you. The fact that not one person followed you five miles should tell you something about you and your show.
It is NOT the same for every other KJ out there. You make asinine assumptions and when you do, they show you to be uneducated and inexperienced in this business.
Last fall, I had my whole crowd follow me to a new venue down the street in the same town.
I have another gig in another city 20 miles away. I FREQUENTLY have patrons follow me from one to the other! Twenty miles!
The fact that your crowd won't follow you five miles speaks volumes.

Let's hear from everyone that always has instant steady crowds at a new job from day one. Just add you and instant successful packed full house show without any dead nights. No advertising needed. Bar owner raises your pay every week because he's making sooooo much money.

I know i'm a minority. It's only me that has to work at building a crowd a few new people a week. Now how is it in the real world? Easy or hard?

Well where are all the wonderful KJs that have brand new instantly successful nights?

SPEAK UP NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR TONGUE.

Just as i thought, there aren't ANY.

No KJ here is that good or that successful at starting a new night. It takes time. No amount of a&& kissing is going to help if the singers are rooted in another bar.

For the KJs who have ever gotten the axe from a bar

Maybe reading the title again might help.

Why did you get fired from the job? That will determine if anyone follows you. If you were fired because you ran an unfair rotation, nobody will follow you.

If you made the singers intentionally sound bad and you and your friends sound good, nobody will follow you.

If you have a terrible sounding system, nobody will follow you.

If you are a total idiot or constantly act like a jerk, nobody will follow you.

If you were fired or quit because the bar owner is a jerk, people may follow you.

Now you're quoting yourself!!!
That's rich!
You're getting rather tiresome.
Did you NOT read my previous post??? You know, the one where I said my whole crowd followed me to a new venue down the street?
OH! Right! Apparently not!
Well let me inform you. I believe THAT would be an instant success, according to your criteria. That particular gig has been so successful right of the top that the venue owner DEMANDED that I charge him more after 3 weeks! He gave me a raise without me asking for it!
But you chose to ignore that particular post and again post your asinine un-factual "facts".
So yes, there ARE shows that can be THAT successful right off the top.
Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it, cause whatever else you're smoking sure isn't helping you any.

Angel910 is not-so- surprisingly mirroring former booted member SIDEWINDER here.

Almost identical syntax, demeanor, EGO, self righteousness, and disregard for other posts or answering questions...hmm...

Is THAT YOU sidewinder? You were a snake, not an angel, and it shows NOW too!!

C'mon, come outta that closet you're hiding in an admit it! Please! That way we would all know there isn't another closed minded assanine kj in this world!!

I have had new shows take off immediately on the first night - in fact, my most recent was in a place that had never had any sort of entertainment due to size constraints. I walked in, set up, the place was packed, people loved it, and it has continued to grow.

I have left venues due to management issues, where I knew the inevitability was that the place was going down hill fast and would end up closed. Some venues just aren't set up, for one reason or another, to have karaoke and occasionally I have taken one of those based on promises by management of what they'll do to make it work - and they fall short. There are things out of our control.

I do believe, as in Diafel's case, that it is possible to populate a new place with regulars. I've done it myself.

I have not read the other responses, just gonna tell you what happened here. We have a local KJ we are very loyal to. She played in a particular bar for over 6 yrs. She runs a fun, FAIR show. However, the bar owner got to a point where he wanted to short her on their agreed upon price. Now her price was pretty low considering she packed out this place EVERY Thurs, Fri and Sat.

After several months of hell from the bar owner, she quit............and we all left with her. Everyone left, even those people that didn't get up and sing, the ones that would just sit and listen or dance. Everyone! It has been several months now and his bar still has no business.

My friend quickly picked up 3 new clubs after leaving and is very happy now. Oh and her regulars from that one place-----well we are all spread out between the 3 clubs and she has picked up many new folks in all 3 as well.

We no longer have weekly gigs but I used to encourage singers to attend other shows. Then they would spread the word and bring back singers to our show. The end result is the better shows accumulate the crowds.

I am in a position where I get to know a lot of different people. So in a sense I become a network hub. Sometimes I feel like the neighborhood Chamber. If I know someone is looking for a job and someone's hiring I hook the 2 patrons up. If someone's looking for a hair dresser and one of the patrons cuts hair I introduce them. Need a mechanic? I know a good one of those he's sitting at the end of the bar. LOL It goes on and on. You'd be surprised how loyal customers are just by helping them out. I've never done it for that reason, it just happens.

There are obviously different things happening in different areas of the country. I'm giving you my experience from my corner of the world. Now if you aren't having anything like what i have described then don't worry about it. If everything is always wonderful and perfect in your corner then good for you.

Come on. First i'm a big dog now a snake. Anyone else have a name they want to use? Nice way to treat someone. Aren't we fellow KJs that are sharing the same occupation, trials and tribulations? I'm giving my true life experiences about things and situations that have happened to me. If you haven't had them happen doesn't mean it can't or won't. Some KJs here have admitted to experiencing the same things, are they getting called names? I see there is a Bigdog listed as a member, is that me too. Is that person a snake or a teenager also?

:D Angel in your defense I can prove you are not the original Bigdog & please dont take this wrong This is meant in innocent jest,

Bigdog only had an opinion about 3 or 4 things and he expressed these opinions 40 times a day in every thread possible. You cant be him because you have an opinion about Everything!!!!LOL

Thanks.

My opinions aren't made up they are based on facts. That makes it experience, not opinion.

Opinion would be someone not experienced just offering conjecture based on nothing but a guess or hunch. I am not offering my opinion most of the time. There is a big difference.

What a hypocrite. first you come onto this forum spewing garbage and misinformation, you then get reprimanded and corrected on ALMOST EVERYTHING you say,

NOW it's "aren't WE fellow kjs"... WE???..when YOUR first 75 or so posts were about YOU YOU Y-O-U and HOW GREAT and WONDERFUL YOU ARE!!

So HOW is the HUMBLE PIE tasting? It's about TIME you started thinking before posting and dropped the 17 year old ego. WELCOME to the real world of grown ups where WE ALL experience most of the same things as kjs- you're NO different other than having bad global beliefs about people, this industry, and a penchant for glorifying yourself. (remember rap music caused the collapse of modern civilization, and kjs that don't sing should stay at home, etc....and more garbage you stated as facts, not opinions).

Try going back and rereading YOUR posts since arriving here and you may learn why there are more than a few folks that you rubbed the wrong way and why they DO NOT LIKE YOU or RESPECT YOU.

And You THEN usually end your posts with an ANGEL emoticon which ALMOST ALWAYS CONTRIDICTS what you had just posted. It MAY be your name, but it doesn't describe you AT ALL.....there is NO HALO above your head.

REPENT and maybe someday you'll post something informative and unbiased we all could benefit from.

Why don't you try internalizing that statement? If you did, you might get less flack from the rest of us, because you come off as though YOUR experience is the ONLY one out there! Your "facts" are not necessarily anyone else's truth, yet you come off as though EVERYONE MUST experience what you do or it doesn't exist. Get off your high horse, please!

Who is on a high horse that doubts that i or some others haven't experienced the things i have written about.

You forgot this part of my quote. Don't take me out of context.

There are obviously different things happening in different areas of the country. I'm giving you my experience from my corner of the world. Now if you aren't having anything like what i have described then don't worry about it. If everything is always wonderful and perfect in your corner then good for you.

I'm new here but i'm learning the forum is "full of" perfect KJs that only have perfect jobs with perfect singers and perfect bar owners with perfect equipment and full house crowds every night and everyone makes perfect wages without other KJs trying to horn in on your territory. Pirates..who made that up? We don't need to worry about no stinkin' pirates. And if they do you welcome them with open arms because there is plenty of work to go around. You help them make their crappy systems sound better and we all party together nightly, coz we're all brother/sister KJs. I'm in that group too and when half of you have done as many jobs as i have we could have some more in common. Besides bitterness toward your KJ elders with way more experience.

We're off to see the Wizard.....in the How silly of me to suggest there could be a nether world of karaoke. Ignore my experience. I made it all up so i could fit in with real KJs. My teenage rants didn't fool you because you are way too smart and experienced for that.

Dish out some more and show the KJs around the world how it really is.

P.S. This is somewhat of an opinion laced with much truth.

WHO has claimed to be perfect here other than YOU? NO ONE.

WHO has claimed to have perfect singers and perfect jobs? NO ONE.

WHY worry about pirates? THIS shows just HOW inexperienced you are. Pirates are killing the industry. Are you one too??

HOW MANY KARAOKE JOBS have you actually, in reality, had?? Are you new to this???

And nobody is dishing out false sunshine. We enjoy this industry and try to help each other out, but we don't need or want any karaoke-nazi's telling us "how it is for every kj", or that THEIR truth is the only truth. GET IT......YET???

Diafel was right. YOU ARE getting tiresome Angel. ....Go join JOLT or something.

Everyone that has responded negatively to the true scenarios i have painted.

I have more pirates around than Black Beard and Capitain Kid together. When they come in i give them flowers & hugs and help them sound better so they can take my jobs. Wait that never happens. Nobody wants my jobs.

Is your opinion gospel? The final voice of experience for all other KJs? We only believe good news KJs. Bad news and bad things never happen to other KJs.

Over 5000 shows under this skirt.

According to the replies, my true dark scenarios could never happen or even exist in your karaoke world. Paradise must be nice.

Such negativity and hostility for a fellow karaoke sister.

Why such closed minds to the experience of others more experienced? What are you afraid of? Are you hiding from something?

Where does everyone get their happy pills? I could use some, cheap. I want to be just like everyone else. La-la-la-la-la

I'm sorry...I'll make up happy stories instead of telling the truth and everyone will love me.
