Hello fellow singers and kj's.
I've posted little to the boards round here however I really enjoy the site and commentary.
Thought 1: Just because someone brings in a burned disc does not mean they are a theif or pirate.
A few weeks back I paid for and downloaded 2 MP3 tracks online from I think, singingstation. I then converted them to WAV and burned them to disc to use at shows. No screen lyrics but forces me to learn the damn song and not use the monitor as a cruch either
Thought 2: Many if not most karaoke disc I have bought or ever seen have a disclaimer saying, "Not for public use or performance."
Thought 3: If a club, a kj provides services for and does NOT pay BMI or ASCAP and the kj does not, most i've known never have or ever will, just because the disc is purchased does not give legal right for public performance or to earn money from karaoke shows.
Personally my feelings are that a kj should not assume because a disc is burned it's not paid for.
Also, like others, I had 2 disc I had less than a few months get not scratched but cracked by a kj's maybe the same one. I have never myself scratched a disc to where it would not play let alone crack one!
This p****d me off to no end. Fortunately I was able to salvage most of the songs I wanted, however lost some good ones, and get them to copy.
I now use these copies because of careless kj's.
Just like all kj's are not careless, do not play favorites with rotation, do not intentionally screw up the mix on singers who have better voices because of an inferiority complex not all..........
Singers who use burned disc are non paying free loading singers not supporting the industry.
Just some things to ponder the next time a kj plays judge and jurry on who is using pirated disc AT SHOWS.
If the industry is not putting their foot down why waste your valuable time worrying about the singers? Are THEY taking money out of your pocket because they are playing copied disc?
Hey..if your singers are all drinking water, playing burned discs and ride in on the bus, or on bicycle, maybe you should ban them from the show
Believe me, I DO understand both sides of the fence. I was a very successful host for many years and know the delima but have been out of the business for some time now.
Now, strictly from a singers standpoint, I sure see the customers point of view.
In the long run I believe a kj and a show will be a success as long as the host concentraits on being the best host they can be, running top notch sound and welcoming and greeting their customers.
Worrying about a singer using a burned disc is very unlikely going to get a show shut down and will do nothing to grow your business.
Lastly.. I now realize this is not really what the topic was..as it's about the studio situation.
This guy wont be in business long and if he is that arrogant nobody will like his work or recording with him so natural attrition should take care of that. Let's hope!
Happy Memorial Weekend!
