Big Mike, Thanks for the heads up on the Earl comeback song. Won't waste the money on it.

"Lovin' You" - Minnie Ruperton (or however you spell it)... I hated it when it was a real song, and I hate it as a karaoke song!

Nice to know I'm not alone in 'dreading' certain songs.

I have heard enough Dixie Chicks to last the rest of my life. I'm noticing that very few of the people who can really do them justice are even doing them anymore...which doesn't help.
Also....
"the perfect country song" or whatever it is really called. Great song...but I need a break from it to appreciate it again.
Any man of mine.
I've gotta hand it to you KJs...you folks must be born with a poker face. How else can you listen to these and hide that 'I've been poked in the eye with a needle' face.

That "perfect" song you refer to might be David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name".
An excellent choice for this list!!

These songs are self-fulfilling entities...the more they get performed, the more the audience sings along while they watch, and suddenly the light comes on..."Hey, I can actually sing that!". The next week, there is that audience member up there, singing THAT song! I can suffer thru these songs time after time, if it makes the customers happy. That's what pays the bills.
True!
A wise man once said, the customer comes first. I see the "hated" songs performed and big smiles on the face of the singer.
Exactly how is this bad for business?
Just sayin'

Hmmmm...........
I won't add a song to the list, but it is interesting to find that there are "regions" and different KJ's having different "songs to burn" lists.
I have seen songs listed that I sometimes wish people would actually do (excluding Picture)

Good point AllStar. It does depends on where you are.
Also, audiences sometimes seem to get enjoyment in moaning about 'that song that should be burned'. After hearing a couple of these songs, it sure makes me appreciate a good-song-done-well all the more.

Hey, guys, it's not the song, it's the singer! With many singers, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is like nails on a chalkboard. But we have a couple of couples at our shows that absolutely nail this song. I actually look forward to hearing them sing it.
I agree that much of the problem is lack of variety in our regular singers. We have some followers who sing the same song every night in every venue...and each performance is equally bad. One lady we have murders HMWYBS week in and week out, but two weeks ago, somebody else came in a blew it through the roof!
It's all in the presentation, folks...just like anything else that makes for a good show.

Like Paid2Party said, it's the singer... I personally hate "The Rose" but my friend Jeannie just NAILS this song when she sings it. SO she's spared the Freddy Krueger routine! !

I get tired of:
"My Way"-Sinatra
"After The Lovin' - Englebert
and of course "Summer Nights"
though I'm guilty of singing it...
to drive the KJ krazy....
oh yeah..."Crazy"-Patsy Cline...
these songs are popular but ...enough!!!

Last saturday Fallin by Alicia Keys (sp) was sung EIGHT TIMES!!!
Twice by the same people!
Then in the contest that night it was sung AGAIN!
It is a great song, but Lawsy!
Of course the day ran from noon to 7 pm but still.... and you can't say NO cause you don't want dead space, and my voice was shot from a cold.... what cha gonna do?
No one has mentioned Grandpa.... again love the song, but seems no one who can sing it has ever sung it in my show anyway.

Never heard this one at karaoke (thank God), but I propose we burn every copy of:
MACARTHUR PARK
ever pressed. I cannot stand that song. The stupidest lyrics I've ever heard,
Someone left the cake out in the rain And I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again, OH NO......
Oh BROTHER!

I provide karaoke for certain softball and basketball tournaments for younger girls and boys (usually 5th graders up to high schoolers). The ones I get asked for more than 5 times a day (the Avril one I once had to do 20 times in one weekend):
Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
Britney Spears - I Love Rock & Roll
Britney Spears - Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman
Christina Aguilera - Come On Over
Nothing against Avril, but dang I'm tired of that song.
