Another thread in here got me thinking. If you had the chance, what songs would you banish so you never have to hear them again?

My choices:

Black Velvet
Love Shack
New York State of Mind
American Pie
I Touch Myself
Summer Nights
I Will Survive
I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)

Oddly enough, this is where the area varies. The only 2 songs on your list that get done on occasion at my show is Summer Nights & Love Shack.

Goodbye Earl
Shadows Of The Night
I Love Rock N Roll
Take It Easy
Mama He's Crazy

I would add right off the top of my head.

Hey Guys......If you strike these songs forever from the world of karaoke, there would be some sad customers out there! These songs are self-fulfilling entities...the more they get performed, the more the audience sings along while they watch, and suddenly the light comes on..."Hey, I can actually sing that!". The next week, there is that audience member up there, singing THAT song!

I can suffer thru these songs time after time, if it makes the customers happy. That's what pays the bills.

I believe this thread was supposed to be tongue in cheek & not to be taken literally. I would never actually strike a song out of my book & do encourage everyone to sing ANYTHING with a smile on my face.

Have you heard the new Earl song? After Earl's Gotta Die, there another one out - something to the effect of "This is Earl, I'm back I didn't die" or something like that. Haven't heard it, but am thinking about ordering the disc just to see what it sounds like.

Ron,
The song you are looking for is by "Cletus T Judd and it's on CB 20266. I have that disk.

To add to the "songs that must die",
"Picture" HAS TO GO!!! I have come to dispise that song with a passion. I get really excited when I can make it through a night without someone singing it!!!!!

Ron, save your money. I own that song, and it was funny the first time you hear it. After that it is even more annoying that Goodby Earl. Not only that, it's a LOOOONG song to boot.

That one gets sung at one club I do faithfully every night i'm there, but at my main show, it never gets done anymore.

I can't believe I forgot "One More Try" by George Michael. That one has made me run out for a smoke on more than one occasion.

Some good ones listed already! Here's a few that come to mind as well:

The Rose - Bette Midler
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
Picture (but I did like this song about 1000 occurences of it ago) - Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Man! I Feel Like a Woman, Any Man of Mine, Honey I'm Home...Shania
What's Up - 4 Non-Blondes

We've had threads about long songs before - last night someone sang Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell - 9+ minutes. Thankfully that doesn't happen too often.

KJs:

Do your singers follow you around from venue to venue? Is that why you hear the same songs night after night? Is it the same people singing them? I usually do that as I travel around the country, if I find a good Karaoke outfit, I just follow them around from venue to venue, night after night, but I try not to sing the same songs at the same clubs....unless I get requests. but I notice that other singers do the same thing...you may see Joe at Rookies on Tuesday, then at Mary's on Wednesday and Tina from Marys may show up at Leftys on Thursday...and they always sing the same songs....does this happen often to you?

Some singers will follow a particular kj from show to show, it's not as common now as it used to be, but the followers still exist.
There are just certain songs that WILL get sung night after night by different people.

She Hates Me

I love this song, and I enjoy singing it, but there's something about this song that makes everyone *think* they can sing it. Turns out most people can't.
