I am going to show my ignorance here but it goes. What type of computer lap-top do you need to have a computer ran karoke show. Also, what is the name of a reputable software to run the downloaded music and lyrics??? I asked a similar question a few days ago and was wanting some more information. I have a lap top computer, but don't know if it would work as a computer KJ. Any information about this would be really beneficial. Thanks!

all I can answer from is experience. I had a compaq presario 900 with an amd 1.7 gig processor, and 512 meg of ram . it wouldnt work with Hoster (mtu software). I sold it and my son gave me a cheeper laptop, it was a presario 2190us with an intel 2.4 gig processor, and 512 meg of ram. I have ran 3 shows with it so far seamlessly with Hoster.

I would suggest a fast intel processor with at least 512 meg of ram. and of course a usb external hard drive. If you are buying new try to get one with an ATI Graphics built in, and usb2.0 not usb1.1

and of course "Hoster" software

By the way....... it wont run "Downloaded" Karaoke files. you will have to load them from your cdg , and you must own the cd, otherwise you risk confiscation.........or worse decapitation from some of the "Enforcers" on this board.

sure glad to know your the expert Dr. D.

There are ALL kinds of options...

PCKJ is strictly built for karaoke hosting. Plays mp3g and another type, warg or something like that... Microsoft's version of a compressed music file, with the graphic subcode.

Then Sax & Dotty's Show Hoster, is written BY a KJ and uses the free winamp and it's plugins. A guy I know in S. Carolina has been running THIS flawlessly for six months... with a 750MHZ system!!!

That's what I'm going to do...

And I'm almost done. And it'll play mp3gs.

I back Dr. D on the "downloaded" thing. Pay for your music. If you're going to use today's technology, use it appropriately!

Matt

Knightshow,

I never said I was an expert. I stated what did and didn't work for me.

I am using A2 Media Player Pro V2.30 from http://a2player.cdmi.net. The software supports lyrics overlay on video in real time. Lyrics can be shown as whole lines or by color sweeping during singing. The good thing of this software is I can test karaoke performance by changing different video (or image) files. I can even change lyrics settings (font, size, color, ...) and save the settings (including volume & mixer settings) to ecah media file in the playlist. The bad thing is I have to create my own lyrics, but it is fast if I use the software's Lyrics Editor and make lyrics shown as whole lines according to the instructions in the Karaoke Producing Tutorial. It is fun and to my suprise, very professional !!!
