Mike,

A lot depends on the genre. I mostly buy country and for Country, Chartbusters is very good quality and priced resonably most places. You can buy sets of "Classic Country", "Country 70's & 80's", etc. Someone else can help you if you're looking for a different genre.

Good Luck,

Chief

Hey Mike,

You should click "search" over there on the left and you'll find a SLEW of threads on this topic. I had the same question at first. And after listening to all the differing viewpoints, Chartbuster has nearly always came out on top for country and Sound Choice for just about everything else. You'll be the one making the ulitmate decision though. Good luck.

I've been very happy with Top Hits Monthly for their Country.
I'm also very satisfied with Pop Hits Monthly for their Pop.
Sound Choice for most everything else.
Pocket Songs is pretty good too (they are the best for Broadway/Show Tunes).
Zoom (a new company in the UK) has been doing some excellent stuff. Check out their Platinum Artists series (I understand their Eagles disc is to die for (if you don't already have SC 8125)).

If you can get them, try finding the old DK series (1 - 99... discontinued years ago), and Pioneer (also discontinued years ago).

IMHO:
Music Mastro is too much hit and miss on the quality of their music.
So is Sweet Georgia Brown (plus, their word-swipes tend to be more off than others).
Legends can be somewhat Hit and Miss, but some of their discs are well worth having (Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, CCR... to name a few).

I like to sing off Sound Choice and have found Music Mystro to be very slow in the past....

I should start and say I don't do much country.
More rock, retro, punk.

I like legends, Top Hits, and, of course, Soundchoice.

I'm really impressed by the selection and quality of Sunfly.
They tend to favour artists that North American labels ignore.
Zoom is pretty good as well.

Malibujesus,

I hear all this talk about Sunfly, that they're good. But I bought my first one, a Sunfly Gold, and it is trash! I don't have the number with me, but I bought it for "There She Goes" by the Las because it was requested. Luckily, that particular song sounds pretty good. There rest of the disc STINKS!

Maybe I just got a bad one, but it would take some convincing for me to buy another.

Only ONCE have I ever thought that I made a mistake...

But I was mistaken...

Just kiddin' :)

If I could start all over knowing what I do now, I'd have the same good quality for less money.

Here's my two cents worth... Buy quality music and quality equipment the first time. It will save you money in the long run every time.

Welcome Mike,

My best advice would be to invest in Sound Choice if you can afford it. They are the best in my opinion.

I haven't tried them all but, as I bought a Sunfly last week, I will continue to buy some different brands here and there. Hopefully, I will find some more out there that are both quality and affordable.

Good luck!

Don't forget about Radio Starz discs. They tend to be pretty good as well.

SingToTheWorld.com is also very, VERY good! They have discs for sale, as well as customs. You can even pay a monthly fee for streeming, and try out every song they have!!!

For my vote, I go with, in this order:

Pioneer
Sound Choice
Pop Hits Monthly
Radio Starz
STTW
and then go on to the misc. ones such as AllHits (which are really good, but have some "errors" in them), Dangerous, Music Maestro, Sunfly, Nutech, and on and on....

From a Brit perspective (in order):

STTW
Zoom
EZ & EK (EasyKaraoke)

I don't like Sunfly either although the latest discs are getting much better.

As well as the quality, STTW & Zoom both have a 'disc for life ' policy whereby if a disc gets damaged, you can send it back and they will replace it free of charge!

Has anyone had any experience with the following CDG brands:

All Hits Karaoke?

Top Tunes?

Hip Tracks?

These look attractive not only due to the price, but the ones I am considering also happen to have multiple singer requests on them.

Thanks for any input you have.

For the price, All Hits are ok. Some of their songs are kind of funky sounding but useable. There are several versions I actually prefer even over Sound Choice.
Top Tunes are hit/miss. Some are great, some down right $uck.
Hip Tracks - RUN!.

I mentioned All Hits in my previous post. sorry, had no space between the words there, so you might have missed it.

Top Tunes, while I've seen some good ones, I've also seen some bad ones. As a personal note, I won't buy any of their discs, just because of their manufacturer, and how they do business. Didn't appove of it then, and now I'm tainted against them. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate it when I see a good one from someone else, though! I just won't spend MY money on them!

Legends is Sunfly, in case you didn't know.

I've gotta say that I just got my second Monster Hits CDG and they're actually pretty good!

I got the Bruce Springsteen disc because I couldn't find a copy of the Radio Statz version and I thought it was good. There are some songs on the disc that are just ok, but most are good; especially for the price.

Today I got my second (MH1144) and it is good, too! I ordered another today. I hope it the trend continues!

Anybody else have an opinion on this?
